Court action over wifi - TheWorthinGer - 12-01-2016 As you may have read Rangers are in court over 300k "owed" to the provider of the stadium wifi system. What's interesting me here is that Rangers claim breach of contract and the supplier dispute this. The system is only capable of 10k simultaneous connections rather than the 50k Rangers claim was contracted - the supplier disputes the 50k figure and claims that Rangers were aware of the lower capacity. Now, I haven't seen the contracts etc, but if you read here: http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/14198666.Wi_Fi_firm_has___300_000_Rangers__cash_ring_fenced_over_money_fears/ and this http://www.802works.co.uk/media/12973/802_rfc_press_release_final.pdf The supplier's statement includes claim: "The new set-up will remove at a stroke the connectivity problems of 3G in high-density areas and allow 50,000+ supporters access to club competitions, merchandising, Rangers media, forthcoming events and more fan/club interactive engagement." I would say that 10k doesn't live up to the published claim. I wonder if the same figure was in the contract. RE: Court action over wifi - TIN TIN - 12-01-2016 No doubt the money is "owed", as you put it, as it was already ring fenced by a court order in December 2015. Looks like this is the club trying to get that decision over ruled so that they have access to the £300000. RE: Court action over wifi - hibeejim21 - 12-01-2016 That figure won't be in the contract surely, who would spec forfull seat coverage for 50k supporters on public access wifi ? RE: Court action over wifi - El Car - 12-01-2016 I heard a bit about this one a while back. When the new management were reviewing contracts the old boards had entered into for any onerous deals they picked this up as one to target because it clearly wasn't value for money. Don't know what the outcome will be but I don't think it'll be the last of these cases. RE: Court action over wifi - ritchiebaby - 13-01-2016 TWG, the 50,000+ figure quoted does not say "simultaneous", whereas the 10,000 figure does. Perhaps that's where the dispute lies. RE: Court action over wifi - St Charles Owl - 13-01-2016 Surely with an average attendance around 40k, and assuming most have smart phones I cannot see a football club signing up for only 10k connections, but then we are talking about the previous boards at Ibrox who seemed to sign anything!!! RE: Court action over wifi - supercooper - 13-01-2016 It will be interesting to find out if the company is linked to the previous regime. I reckon that's were the crux of the matter could lie. I'd imagine the contract would specify seat numbers and a geographical spread that would allow "access". Why would they need 50k fans on wifi at the same time at a fitba game? For a start the costs would be (excuse the pun) through the roof!! RE: Court action over wifi - supercooper - 13-01-2016 They seem to be fairly expensive as it is. Time will tell. However, they do claim access for 50k in their own press release. It doesn't say 50k in batches of 10k at a time. 50k of simultaneous connections would require enormous gb of bandwidth. But so would 10k relative to your local pub or cafe. |
