Why some fans hate refs! - Tibby Baggie - 21-12-2015 It probably hasn't done my blood pressure any good, but I've read the ref review articles on Team Talk regularly this season. Here a link to the latest one Have a look at the league table at the bottom of the article... RE: Why some fans hate refs! - RainbowTurnedEastStand - 22-12-2015 Refs have got it in for us after Pulis opened his mouth about wanting to know where the money went from player and manager fines. RE: Why some fans hate refs! - Tibby Baggie - 22-12-2015 So Pulis even gets the blame for incompetent refs now? I've read some bilge on different boards over the years but that is right up there. We've had seven dubious decisions go against us so far this season. Seven! If officials had done their jobs properly just think where we'd be in the league now! RE: Why some fans hate refs! - aries22 - 22-12-2015 I don't hate refs, I just hold them in a healthy contempt. They've got a difficult job to do sometimes, but they and their laughingly called 'assistant referees' could make their jobs easier by 1. Actually watching the game, 2. Not bottling decisions and 3. Only giving decisions when they're 100% sure of what they've seen. Nobody minds honest mistakes where someone holds his hand up, but incompetence followed by closing ranks fools no one. We have definitely suffered in the recent past but making negative comments doesn't help. The refs themselves and the football world in general in TV replays, can see and hopefully accept any clangers that are made and maybe have a softer spot for the club in future. As Aries rightly says, refs are human and can make mistakes hence the need for technology to be introduced. Olsson's off-side goal was a classic example of this. So Tibby, I don't think it is all 'bilge' as you distinctly put it ! ![]() RE: Why some fans hate refs! - Tibby Baggie - 22-12-2015 (22-12-2015, 13:12)TheBaggieMan Wrote:(22-12-2015, 00:21)RainbowTurnedEastStand Wrote: Refs have got it in for us after Pulis opened his mouth about wanting to know where the money went from player and manager We'll have to agree to disagree there BaggieMan. Saying refs have got it in for Pulis for him asking where the money goes for fines is bilge, or nonsense, whichever you prefer. I appreciate that they haven't got easy jobs but neither have the managers and these decisions the officials are making have a direct impact on the results. We're not the only "smaller club" getting the short end of the stick at the minute (check the link and league table from my OP) from the referees and I think it's as valid a discussion point as Pulis is. I'm fed up of hearing nothing but mostly discussion about him when there's a lot more happening at the football club to discuss. We might as well rename this site PulisBabble at the minute. I can't even try to talk about refs without him getting involved in the discussion. ![]() RE: Why some fans hate refs! - 4evaabaggie - 22-12-2015 Tibby, I agree with you on this point, everything on here seems to be a like pulis hate pulis debate, it's been a mild December, must be down to the hot air from pulis, it's been a cold December must be pulis freezing players out. As for refs targeting us because of comments from Tone, it's rubbish, we have had this problem since arriving in the premier league and every top flight season since. Have people forgotten the two apologies from the head referee in different years because of awful decisions long before the football anti-christ / club saviour arrived at little ole Albion. A video referee would have given us higher league finishes and silverware ...... anyone still angry over Baros, on a yellow already, handles again in front of linesman, shoots, keeper saves, Kanu scores rebound, Pompey go on to win the final ... that FA cup was ours, our second promotion to top flight and cup win, or should have been. Repeat of 31. Of course that could also just lead to the "bias against a small club by refs" conspiracy!! ![]() (22-12-2015, 12:13)aries22 Wrote: I don't hate refs, I just hold them in a healthy contempt. Due to the refs not being allowed to speak to the media or even just being able to somehow explain their decisions through the Referrees Association or something similar we have no way to know whether the 7 times you have been on the end of an incorrect decision this season is incompetence or an honest mistake!! Some form of video replay needs to come in to help the refs. The game is so fast these days that if they are literally one step out of the perfect line of vision they have no chance of making some calls!! Most decisions can be reviewed and changed if need be within 10 seconds of the incident by a 5th official watching a TV replay. Most are fairly clear cut from the many angles tv has and even if play has continued it can always be brought back quickly. |
