Brentford v Town

Saturday 19th December 2015

Griffin Park,

The Far West End of Larndan Tarn.

TW8 0NT.

Prematch Mumble

Tis the last Saturday for Xmas shopping before Rudolph and his mates come and poop down your chimney and Town have a trip down to that there Larndan Tarn to play in the westest of Waste End Championship stadiums at Brentford's Griffin Park. We have another one coming up at the next westest of Waste End Championship stadiums at QPR on the 28th too.

Supporters are traditionally thin on the ground this weekend, particularly Saturday, as 'er indoors* normally collars 'im outdoors* to help with the Christmas shopping. Why this all has to take place at 3:00 pm on a Saturday afternoon when all the shops and supermarkets are rammed full of similarly minded braindead zombies, car parking anywhere within 10 miles of the shops is impossible and there's live football being played all over the country is beyond me. Haven't these people heard of Sunday opening yet?
*Adjust for your particular gender of choice or leaning - these are given as working examples only and are not meant to be taken as a mysogenistic rant.

Griffin Park

(as shamelessly copied from WIKI - well done that man and Bees supporter, some other places on the web and supplemented by my own ramblings)

Brentford have plans for a new ground in place, (new stadium plans), but it seems they still haven't stuck a shovel in the ground. So this likely won't be our last visit to an almost unique stadium with a pub in each corner, even if only 3 are still open. They finally put a lid on their open end a few years back (I thought it was more recent than said below), but as it is still a standing area, if they have any thoughts of staying in this division (or higher) for much longer they will soon need to fit seats in this end to comply with League regulations (or ground share with QPR/Fulham which they won't like). That or get digging and building pretty darned quick.

Brentford FC have played at Griffin Park since September 1904. The ground is unique in British football, in that there is a pub on each corner; The Royal Oak, The New Inn, The Griffin (which was used in the film Green Street) and The Princess Royal (which was once run by Brentford FC). In April 2015, The Royal Oak public house closed its doors for the last time, and so Brentford FC and Griffin Park have only three pubs still open on three of the four corners.

In 2007, the east stand, at the Ealing Road end of the ground, had a roof installed after a grant given by the Football Trust, therefore making all four stands of Griffin Park covered. The Ealing Road stand still remains a terrace and is now where the home supporters stand. It was re-opened for the first game of the season of the 2007/08 season, on Saturday 11 August 2007, against Mansfield Town, and 4,909 watched the game.

The Braemar Road stand, known as the south stand, was renamed the 'Bees United' stand for the 2010/11 season. The New Road stand, the north stand opposite, was renamed The Bill Axbey stand. The Brook Road, west stand, is used specifically as the away supporters stand, and is sometimes called the Wendy House.

The dug-outs were moved from the Braemar Road side (south side) of the ground to the Bill Axbey side (north side) for the 2010/11 season.

So now we are all confused as to where to sit/stand/drink (whatever) what about the Stats?

You all know by now I nick these from Statto.com

Pretty even-stevens between us apart from last seasons hammering.

Who owns ya?

Club owner Matthew Benham also owns FC Midtjylland in Denmark, who are playing European football and use his "Moneyball" philosophy. However, his plan for Brentford came a little unstuck when the coach he employed to replace Mark Warburton (flying the Rangers flag high in the Scottish next to top numpty league) promptly lead Brentford into the bottom third of the division. (Brentford finished 5th last season after being promoted the previous season). As a result, Marinus Dijkhuizen was given the boot (this system is supposedly coach proof, hmmm, apparently not) and they have recently appointed Dean Smith who has quietly brought Walsall into the promotion picture in League 1. As an aside Walsall have just hired Dean Smith's replacement, Sean O'Driscoll today. Another top job that Jose could have had if he'd have left Chelski on Monday evening rather than continuing to blame everyone but himself for the mess they are this season and waiting to be sacked yesterday.

As it stands.

Town are now in 19th place on 21 points (a bit better points per game than Chelski Mr. Jose) while Brentford have climbed back up to 10th on 29 points. L666s scraped 3 points off Wolves last night in these here parts of Middle England and moved a few more points above us. A win on Saturday would put us a point behind Wolves who have only won twice at home this season - one of them, ahem, against us. How crap were we that evening?

Head to Head it's pretty even between the teams over a long period. Town were having a slightly better run against them though we got thumped 4-1 last season at Griffin Park.

Getting there from up North

Head south, turn right at the M25, turn left at the M4/A4, then right at B455/Ealing Road or use the post code above on your sat nav. It will get you close.
Lots of trains from London Waterloo. That Green coloured line on the Tube will get you somewhere close (like Kew Gardens/Gunnersbury or there abouts). The Blue one to Heathrow is a bit further away but means no changes from Kings Cross (South Ealing/Northfields/Boston Manor).

Next?

Oh yeh - who's playing?

Ask Hr. Wagner - he's giving nothing much away but it looks like not many changes.

That's some damn fine cobbling Theo, you're doing a cracking job, top thread

RE: The Bees v Terriers - theo_luddite - 18-12-2015

Cheers Jeebers - just need a few of our readers to do some pre-Xmas posting. C'mon down folks don't be shy - we don't bite.

Much or too hard.

RE: The Bees v Terriers - jjamez - 18-12-2015

You've been collating this for a few months havent you?

The way they are run is admirable. Enjoyed the film of that name but more seriously if done right its a way of becoming competitive but remaining well into a budget.

Think thats a little bit like what we try to do but we focus on the academy too.

The moneyball system though would see an injury prone player and tell you what he can do but forget to mention the fact that he breaks down often.

RE: The Bees v Terriers - theo_luddite - 18-12-2015

Ey-up jjamez. I send a pre-match mumble to my nephew and friends/converted Town fans in far, far off lands - so most of it came from that. They also get in-match and after match updates when I can do them. Thumb up 'We'll keep the Town flag flying high.'

We can expect a big bid for Vaughan anytime soon then?

RE: The Bees v Terriers - jjamez - 18-12-2015

High bid no. Offer to keep for the remainder of his contact more than likely. I like how bares the brunt of datm hatred. Accepted he is injured a lot but he became an idol to many young fans due to his style of play and the goals he scored when he played. Unfair regardless of whats happened or been said by both parties.

The nfl and the baseball loves stats even more than we do in our football. Can see why they are becoming more important in day to day sport

RE: The Bees v Terriers - theo_luddite - 19-12-2015

Think he'll stay in Brum tbh. It's his home club
