Match Thread - Blackburn v SWFC - St Charles Owl - 25-11-2015 THE MATCH - SATURDAY 28TH NOVEMBER 2015 3PM KO ![]() ![]() Does anyone actually consider Blackburn as a big club?? The media still seem to refer to them as one and certainly back in the 1800s they were one of the early big clubs, but for me it was their successful period with Shearer banging in the goals and Jack Walker at the helm that most people remember. But they still weren't big, they were just the original Chelsea or Man City, a club who had a wealthy owner and bought success!! But Jack passed away and eventually the club fell into the hands of the Venky's, an Indian family who mad a fortune from selling chicken. So today we find a game between owners that made their money from tuna, the "chicken" of the sea and actual chicken!!! When the Venky's arrived, they decided that Big Sam wasn't cutting it with his PL mid-table football, so they fired him and replaced him with Steve Kean. Kean proceeded to get them relegated and amazingly kept his job into the following season. After many protests by the fans Kean was fired and replaced with ex-player Henning Berg. He last a whole 57 days before the chickens decided to cut off his head and replaced him with Michael Appleton. Appleton last a whopping 10 days longer than Berg did and so they were now onto their 4th manager in one season with the appointment of Gary Bowyer. Bowyer made it through a couple of seasons but was fired 2 weeks ago and has now been replaced by Paul Lambert. So once again we end up playing a team with a new manager!! ![]() This will be the 147th meeting between us with our record being W55 D37 L54, so very even. Our record at their place though is not so good W18 D20 L38. We won our first game there in Dedcember 1880, a nice 4-0 win in the FA Cup, maybe Pei could give us his match report for that win!! ![]() THE LAST MATCH After the international break we were raring to go at home to the Village but for 70 minutes struggled to find any form at all and found ourselves 1-0 down. Finally though in the last 20 minutes we got going and finished the game in the sort of form we have gotten used to this season, scoring three goals and running out what looked like easy winners!!! There was and still is some debate about the fact that Nuhiu started but once he was subbed we started playing better, we will never know what would have happened had Joao or Hooper started so either CC is a master tactician or he got away with one!!!! FUNNY COMMENT FROM LAST MATCH THREAD Wereham posted this at about the 70 minute mark, is funny with hindsight but wasn't at the time: "We're gonna be lucky to only lose this 1-0 if we carry on like this !!" Shows how this game really changed in the last 20 minutes. OUR TEAM So what do we expect this time?? Hutch is still out and Bannan is still a doubt as i type this. I am hoping we may see Lopez come in alongside Lee instead of Semedo and that we find a way to fit in McGugan from the start. Joao or Hooper have to start surely!!!! Aside from that I expect the team to look like this: Westwood Hunt Loovens Lees Pudil Lee Lopez Wallace Forestieri McGugan Joao WHO'S THE BASTARD IN THE BLACK Ref - Frederick Graham Assts - Steven Copeland and Duncan Street 4th Official - Rob Lewis MS will hopefully give us the skinny on this guy in previous Owls games!!
