Match Thread - Brentford v SWFC - St Charles Owl - 25-09-2015 THE MATCH - SAT 26th SEPTEMBER 2015 3PM UK TIME
![]() Brentford were probably the surprise of the Championship last season reaching the playoffs in their first season back in the division. Mark Warburton was hailed as the architect to this success yet during the season it was announced that he would not be staying as manager beyond the end of last season. He duly left, joined Rangers who have had a very good start to their season, and so far Brentford have struggled a bit sitting in 17th place as I type this. Of course losing some of their key players such as Andre Gray doesn't help, but it does make you wonder about the logic of letting Warburton leave. We have played Brentford 32 times with a record of W11 D12 L9. Our record at Griffin Park is very good, since 2003 we have W3 D2 L1 including a 2-1 win in the playoff semis on our way to promotion in 2005. Here is the video of our goals in that semi from Peacock and Brunt, a game that saw our new CH Michael Turner playing for them!! THE LAST MATCH We have definitely stepped up our performances since the International break putting in good displays in all our games without being able to win them. Well maybe this last week will hopefully prove to be the turning point for our fortunes and ability to turn good performances into goals and ultimately wins. We played very well against Fulham, a game that saw us play some great stuff and finally score the goals to go with them. Of course it was closer than it probably should have been due to us conceding 2 goals, but the win was the important thing at the end of the day. That was followed up by a great performance and in the end comfortable victory at St Jame's Park against Newcastle, another game we dominated and although only by one goal in the end our "reserve" team was never really troubled by a Prem team that included multiple international players!! FUNNY COMMENT FROM LAST MATCH THREAD Quote from Maddix. "BASTARDS ![]() ![]() ![]() A little confession from me, I changed the day of a meeting I had from Tuesday to Wednesday so that I too could listen to the game at work only to discover on Tuesday morning that the game was on the following day!! ![]() OUR TEAM The team is starting to look more settled after the good recent performances. No changes to the back four from the Fulham game I would imagine, but Hutchinson is back from his suspension so will be in contention along with Semedo for the midfield anchor role. The rest of midfield sees CC having to now make a few difficult decisions, does he play Wallace after his three assists against Fulham or does he bring in McGugan somewhere who had a good game against the Geordies or does he include Matias or even Sougou on the wings?????? Its certainly nice to see a squad with depth for a change and here is what I would expect to see: The following is my prediction for the opening line-up: Westwood
Hunt Turner Lees Pudil
Lee Hutchinson
Wallace Forestieri Bannan
Nuhiu
But I think we could probably all name a different line-up with so many options now available to CC. WHO'S THE BASTARD IN THE BLACK Ref - GEOFF ELTRINGHAM Assts - Adam Crysell and Geoffrey Russell Fourth Official - Charles Breakspear MS will hopefully give us the skinny on this guy in previous Owls games!! If he isn't, he will probably bring in either Matias or McGugan. The Bastard in the Black is Geoff Eltringham from Durham. Our record with this clown is: Aug 14 - Burnley 0-1 OWLS - 2Y - Gave Wednesday a penalty Sept 13 - OWLS 1-1 Yeovil - 4Y, 1R - Sent of Yeovil player April 13 - OWLS 1-1 Ipswich - No Cards Aug 12 - OWLS 3-2 Birmingham - 2Y Mar 12 - OWLS 2-0 Preston - 6Y Oct 11 - OWLS 2-0 Colchester - 3Y Apl 11 - OWLS 3-1 Swndon - 2Y Feb 11 - Peterboro 5-3 OWLS - 2Y, 1R - Sent off Potter (AI's final match) Oct 10 - OWLS 1-0 Leyton O - No Cards Feb 10 - OWLS 2-0 Blackpool - No Cards Our Overall Record is P10 W7 D2 L1 so this is a lucky official for us although eight of his previous games have been at S6 and our only defeat was an away match so maybe he is just a homer.
