Terriers Vs The Tricky Trees (or the reds) Match Thread - jjamez - 21-09-2015 ![]() ![]() For the first time in god knows how long (excluding any holiday fixtures), possibly since town were involved in those dreaded league one playoffs, the side will play a fixture on a thursday. yep thats right a thursday, all because Sky would like to once again show town playing at home, i cant remember the last time sky broadcast town playing away, could it possibly be against blackpool? or maybe crystal palace? but anyway, this marks the first time town will be on tv this season, with Wolves following close behind (remarkably that one is away) as well as leeds at home also looming on the horizon. It is also forests' third game on tv this season and they have had a mixed bag in terms of end results, a loss away at brighton, a win away at QPR goals from henri lansbury and nelson olivera seeing them passed the FFP cheats, who incidently saw Rob Green sent off allowing Alex Smithies to make his league bow for the hoops. Their third appearance came last saturday against Middlesborough, which saw the reds fall to a 2-1 defeat. I do sometimes wonder about sky and the games it shows, obviously they sell it as being for people in england but they really do appear to select the games for abroad, the premiership is constantly the big five, whilst the championship games are usually one of the fallen 'giants' or teams they have expectations of. which is all well and good as a business plan, however, it is because of this endless creaming over specific teams, that the everyday fan is becoming bored of the game, it is also why there is so much money being branded around by certain clubs due to the tv income, which has detrimental effects on the lower clubs even in the premier league all the way down to league two and bellow. but sky don't care as they want to use this cash cow for all it is worth, whilst the FA and FL just rub their hands at the money that they see entering the coffers. But even a cash cow runs dry eventually. who will suffer then? ![]() Anyways rant over, onto thursdays game, town go into on the back of two wins, both of which have seen town perform better and have saved Powell from the chop that must have been looming had there not been a change in fortunes. Saturdays home win also marks the first win on home soil since easter monday, which looking at a footballing calander is a very long time. However, one would hope that this also marks the first of many this season as we continue our quest in trying to improve slightly year upon year, with this seasons aim being to get into the top half of the table. A win on thursday would see town rear their blue and white head around the play off places, albeit until saturday afternoon, however, it does go to show that despite our poor start to the season, the league is very compact and competitive and a couple of good results can see you move a long way up, likewise a few poor results can see you slump right down. Our guests for thursday night are no strangers to town fans, with the two teams spending a fair amount of time in the same league over the last few years, dating back to when we were both in league one. I can still remember lewis mcgugan ripping us a new one at the city ground, which eventually led to the sacking of jacko, whilst our first season in the championship saw radi majewski score a hat trick over us on a tuesday evening at the city ground...wonder what became of that dynamic little midfielder? ![]() Forest have had a tricky transfer window, not being allowed to spend money probably doesnt help but they have still made a handful of decent signings, most of which have come in on loan. Spanish left back Dani Panillios has joined on a free transfer following a successful trial, big lump chris o'grady has rejoined his hometown club on loan from brighton in a bid to bolster forests' depleated strikeforce. ryan mendes joined on loan from french side Lille, and seems to be a similar player to scannell, but with a few more step overs, nearly as many as hammill... although when he is on form he looks like he will tear teams apart, when he isnt, it looks like he'll send fans to tears... Another new signing is Jamie Ward from bitter rivals derby county, the diminutive winger is a willing runner and player that looks to wind the opposition up, however, he has had his injury problems and will be looking to put them behind him following his switch, he is a player that town will have to watch carefully as he does find space behind defences, they also signed a former Arsenal midfielder Kyle Ebeccilio onloan from a dutch side. They may have signed a few more, but the three key bits of transfers for forest this summer has been the sale of michail antonio to west ham, the powerhouse winger was a thorne in many a teams sides last season purely because of his speed and power, he was their main outlet like butterfield was ours, but since the sale of antonio forest have had to change their playing style which has resulted in better allround performances. Another key bit of business was the signing of oliveria, the portuguese internation spent a part of last season on loan at swansea and failed to impress, however, the benfica striker has claimed that it was due to the change of pace and that he feels that he is now ready to step into english football, it is rumoured that forest managed to sign the player from under the noses of la liga side Valencia, how true that is i dont know, but if it is then its impressive on both the clubs side and the players side, as he obviously wanted to set things straight and wanted to play more games, which one would think is more likely at forest that Valencia. However, the main bit of business that forest managed this summer to me is keeping henri lansbury, he is a bit of an enigma player in that he sometimes has games where he is missing and the game passes him by, but when he is on form then he makes the side tick as well as chipping in with goals. it is more significant considering that forest don't have many creative midfielders and are rather one dimensional when andy reid is missing, he's returning to training following almost a year out with a groin injury (dont tell vaughan) however lansbury has taken to the role pretty well. ![]() ![]() The clubs have met on regular occasions over the years with forest winning 16, drawing 16 and town winning 19. 21 Aug 2012 Huddersfield Town v Nottingham Forest D 1-1 (rhodes pen (last goal for town) and cox for forest) League Championship 19 Feb 2013 Nottingham Forest v Huddersfield Town L 6-1 ( Vaughan gave town the lead, majewski x3, elliot ward, lansbury and darius henderson scoring in reply) League Championship 03 Aug 2013 Nottingham Forest v Huddersfield Town L 1-0 (Lansbury) League Championship 11 Feb 2014 Huddersfield Town v Nottingham Forest L 0-3 (Jamie paterson x2, henderson) League Championship 26 Aug 2014 Huddersfield Town v Nottingham Forest W 3-0 ( Lynch, wells, holt. (two former forest players scoring) League Championship 11 Apr 2015 Nottingham Forest v Huddersfield Town W 0-1 (Scannell) There have been a fair number of players that have played for both as can be seen above, majewski signed on loan last season but hardly played due to personal reasons and managerial decisions. elliot ward and Jamie paterson joined this summer on loan and as such will be missing for thursday, whilst grant holt almost saw his career ruined by then manager billy davies, who played him out wide rather than down the middle before letting him go to league 2 shrewsbury...he didnt do bad for himself thereafter did he? ![]() other players that have played for both include... Joe Garner- signed on loan but fell in love with the grass and proceeded to hug it every game, rather than living up to the potential he had. Craig Armstrong- signed for town from forest and played over 100 games for us, he is now their elite development coach. David Phillips- also signed for town from forest, played over 100 games for forest and over 50 for us. Joel Lynch- signed on a free transfer from forest when town got promoted. was used as a utility player at forest playing as a left back and as a left winger, before settling down as a defender here at town. Lee Peltier- spent time out on loan at forest before rejoining town for brief and unsuccessful second spell. Jack Hunt- also spent time at forest on loan from crystal palace, with forest fans seeing much the same as we did. Ishmael miller- the big striker signed for forest from west brom, with the promise of pace and power, however, he never lived up to that promise before becoming more of a journeyman, playing for the likes of yeovil and blackpool before joining town. Team news for thursday- town will be without jamie paterson who will be unable to play against his parent club, whilst Vaughan, Murphy and Hudson will be forced to watch from the stands due to injury. otherwise town will be as you were, providing everyone came through saturday unscathed, huws will be looked at once again as he continues his come back, whilst hogg similarly will be checked over before the fixture. Billing or Bojaj will be looking to take patersons space on the bench. ![]() As for forest, they still have a rather injury stricken squad, with reid, cohen and assombalonga all out injured although reid and cohen are close to a return to training. forest are also without matty fryatt who is out with an achilles injury. However, these injuries have led to youngsters being exposed to match action, with the likes of Jorge Grant, Dimitar Evitimov and Ben Osborne all making appearances, as well as young hotshot Tyler Walker, son of former england centre half desmond, who will be looking to make a return to the side following his unsuccessful 45 mins out wide against QPR. regardless of that there is a lot of hopes for the young striker. In terms of forests' lineup, i would expect them to revert to their away lineup, with O'grady coming in to lead the line, possibly with oliveria drifting to the right and mendes on the left. Lansbury will play a central role possibly alongside vaughan, with mancienne sitting in front of a back for of lichaj, hobbs, wilson and panillios, with De vries in goal. As for town. ![]() With town having a bench of- Allinson, Smith, Hogg, Wells, Dempsey, Lolley, Bojaj/ Billing I would predict a close game, with town coming out 2-1 winners leading to more of this.... ![]() RE: Terriers Vs The Tricky Trees (or the reds) Match Thread - Lord Snooty - 21-09-2015 (21-09-2015, 17:06)jjamez Wrote: For the first time in god knows how long (excluding any holiday fixtures), possibly since town were involved in those dreaded league one playoffs, the side will play a fixture on a thursday. yep thats right a thursday, all because Sky would like to once again show town playing at home, i cant remember the last time sky broadcast town playing away, could it possibly be against blackpool? or maybe crystal palace? Was it Sheffield Wendies when Patterson scored and then fake flattened Clayton in the celebration? Just to cover every angle, my final prediction is 1-0 to Forest. ![]() RE: Terriers Vs The Tricky Trees (or the reds) Match Thread - Jeebers - 22-09-2015 Don't agree with your predictions Mirf, none of them there results will happen - Match abandoned due to Stuart Pearce taking Dougie Freedman hostage on the Forest bus RE: Terriers Vs The Tricky Trees (or the reds) Match Thread - MNTerrier - 22-09-2015 Town will almost certainly win this game , i know this because the game will be televised in America and i dont get to watch it because its on a silly day and with the time difference i have to work. RE: Terriers Vs The Tricky Trees (or the reds) Match Thread - theo_luddite - 23-09-2015 I'll take a repeat of last season's performance. RE: Terriers Vs The Tricky Trees (or the reds) Match Thread - Denners - 23-09-2015 Who are the 2 players CP mentions in his pre game press conference? Best and Kelly? RE: Terriers Vs The Tricky Trees (or the reds) Match Thread - jjamez - 23-09-2015 Leon best and stephen kelly. Best is a striker who has had a few purple patches when it comes to scoring, other than that he doesn't score. Worse record than miller I'd imagine. Kelly is a full back RE: Terriers Vs The Tricky Trees (or the reds) Match Thread - theo_luddite - 24-09-2015 I remember Best taking us apart on TV some years back when he was on loan at Yeovil but he certainly doesn't seem to have done much in his years at Blackburn either playing or scoring wise. I know he got injured soon after joining them then presumably he couldn't get in the team for Gestede and Rhodes. Seems he was out on loan all of last season and only scored a few for Wendies the season before. RE: Terriers Vs The Tricky Trees (or the reds) Match Thread - themaclad - 24-09-2015 You started well against a bang average Forest suspect Jamie Ward will still be annoying your fans at 9.30 nice goal by Forest though You should shoot more often they might go in as the one tonight did |
