Celtic player in racial abuse probe - El Car - 14-09-2014 Aleksandar Tonev, on loan at Celtic from Aston Villa, has been reported by Aberdeen for racially abusing Shay Logan in Saturday's meeting between the sides. According to STV, should the player be charged and found guilty he will incur at least a 4 match ban. Tonev becomes the 2nd Celtic player in recent months to be accused of racist behaviour after striker Leigh Griffiths was filmed taking part in racist chants in April. While then-manager Neil Lennon publicly reprimanded Griffiths, the club has this time denied any wrongdoing by their player. RE: Celtic player in racial abuse probe - Trusevich - 15-09-2014 I thought Lawwell said this sort of behaviour would lead to termination of employment? Or is he just a mealy-mouthed liar, paying lip-service to ideals he hasn't the slightest inclination of upholding? He probably meant it would lead to the unemployment of anyone at the SFA who tries to pursue the matter any further. I hear he's already selected the next half dozen compliance officers. RE: Celtic player in racial abuse probe - Larry-AV - 15-09-2014 Don't forget that Tonev is Bulgarian. He probably called the Aberdeen player a sheep shagger ... but it got lost in translation. That would explain the denial by Celtic FC and Tonev. ![]() RE: Celtic player in racial abuse probe - El Car - 08-11-2014 Prominent Celtic supporter and former referee Kenny Clark has waded into the issue with Celtic set to launch the 'Oscar Pistorius defence' of simultaneously claiming 1) that the player is innocent of all wrongdoing and 2) while he did technically commit the offence, he didn't mean it to be so bad. Clark himself is demanding that the SFA explain its initial finding, calling for transparency about its decision making. Ironic from the man who once claimed it would be a sorry state of affairs if clubs demanded explanations for refereeing decisions. Furthermore he seems to object to the SFA's disciplinary system working on the same basis as the civil justice system (which it would in fact be equivalent to) rather than the criminal justice system (I assume he also things the SFA should have the power to jail players?). I wonder if he'd like to be the one to foot the bill for the enormous legal costs involved in even the most simple of legal cases every time a player appeals a red card. RE: Celtic player in racial abuse probe - Trusevich - 12-11-2014 I note their scumbag fans booed Logan throughout Sunday's Pittodrie clash. That's right - they booed him for having the audacity to allow himself to be racially abused by a Celtic player. Or was it just for reporting the racial abuse to the SFA? How dare he not ignore it! Sadly for that particularly degenerate section of their support, their behaviour comes as no surprise whatsoever. |
