Youssouf Mulumbu released - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 24-05-2015

So, we have our first change of the summer.  Mulumbu's off now that his contract's up.  Cheers for six great years, Youssouf; wonderful servant to the club.

He comes from Africa
He's STILL better than Kaka

A player that I really enjoyed watching when he was good and on form - so best of luck for the future.

A Shame as a very good player for us but not used much under TP. Good luck Youssouf and make sure you stay on my buddies list on FB

Think it was the right time for him to go.

He was excellent for 4 years and really on top of his game in Steve Clarke's
first season.

That said, his performances have been deteriorating over the last couple of years
and when he has figured this season, he hasn't impressed. I feel we need more
mobility in the middle of the park and it's the right time for all parties.

Been a great player for the club and wish him all the best.

Probably my favourite ever baggies player. Always gave 100%. Sad to see him go.

Will be a massive coup for whoever gets him on a free as he is easily worth £6m+ in this market.

Hopefully we will be making some quality additions to the squad this summer, TP needs the full backing of whoever the owner is come July.

He's been off-form for a couple of years, and if he genuinely wants to move on then it's probably the best for both parties that this happens now. However, I have to admit I'm a bit concerned about whether we're going to try and sign a new box-to-box midfielder to replace him, or if we're going to rely on Gardner instead, who just doesn't offer the same kind of drive, creativity and attacking impetus Mulumbu gave us at his best.

I think he's been unlucky this season. He started the season injured, then got injured in the ANC, and hasn't had a proper run in the team to get his fitness back. Our best player by a long way over the last 6 years, and weren't ManU 'allegedly' going to offer £10m a couple of years back? (They obviously rated him above Fletcher).

RE: Youssouf Mulumbu released - meandbrenarebaggies - 25-05-2015

May I add my thanks to the sterling service provided by Mulumbu.  For a few years he was our outstanding player
and automatic choice on any teamsheet.  Meandbren send our heartiest good wishes to him and his family.

RE: Youssouf Mulumbu released - drewks - 25-05-2015

Agree with most that's already been said; I've supported The Baggies for an awful long time and IMO YM has been one of the top midfielders over the last 40 years, and quite possibly, along with the great Bryan Robson, the most complete midfielder. I think he's quite often wrongly classed as a 'defensive midfielder' - he's more than that, and on his day he simply has very few equals.
Really sad to see him go; don't think he's had a fair crack of the whip recently, but there we are.
Good luck, and a big THANKS, YM!

I agree with these sentiments especially Drewks about him being more than a defensive midfielder, he scored about 8 in our first season after promotion and he's a very skilful player. One of my albion favourites without doubt and it's sad to see him leave. I'd have liked him to stay as back up but I'll be happy if he can get regular football at a decent premier league club. Hopefully we'll bring in a decent replacement incase Fletcher or Yacob get injured. Thank you for 6 great years Youssuf.
