Pride of the Midlands - AGAIN - Salopbaggie - 16-05-2015 So if my calculations are right the Vile can only go above us on goal difference, if they win their last game and we would have to lose our last two games by 13 goals or more (less any goals they win by in their last match) after their 6-1 thumping today. A new record for Villa to brag about (bet they don't) Southampton winger Sadio Mane has scored the fastest hat-trick in Premier League history netting three goals in two minutes and 56 seconds. Pretty much safe to say Pride of the Midlands RE: Pride of the Midlands - AGAIN - St Charles Owl - 16-05-2015 Pride of the Midlands this season has to be Stoke doesn't it?? Surely you don't class them as being in the North!! Not sure if others would agree. RE: Pride of the Midlands - AGAIN - St Charles Owl - 16-05-2015 Stairs, if you had called it the Pride of the West Midlands then I would accept ignoring Stoke, just!!! But the midlands is far bigger than just Birmingham and the surrounding villages!!! RE: Pride of the Midlands - AGAIN - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 16-05-2015 We say "pride of the Midlands" because it fits the chant, basically. Yes, the Midlands as a region is bigger than the West Mids conurbation, but when we say POTM we're talking about the teams Stairs listed. (Part and parcel of this is that although the other Midlands clubs have their little isolated rivalries - i.e. Derby/Forest, Stoke/Vale - they don't have anything like the five-way rivalry which goes on round here). As a footnote, I'll add that Stoke fans agree with you on this, and for the last couple of seasons they've taken to singing "pride of the Midlands" to try and wind us up. However, it backfires on them because we don't consider them local rivals, and therefore don't really care what they call themselves! RE: Pride of the Midlands - AGAIN - St Charles Owl - 16-05-2015 Sounds a bit like the classic L**ds chant - "We are the Champions, Champions of Europe", sounds good but not very accurate!!! ![]() RE: Pride of the Midlands - AGAIN - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 16-05-2015 Well, as soon as I find a tune to fit "WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE, WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE: PRIDE OF THE WEST MIDLANDS CONURBATION, BUT NOT ALL THOSE OTHER LESSER BITS OF THE MIDLANDS, BECAUSE WHO ACTUALLY GIVES A F**K ABOUT THEM? WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE," I'll give you a shout ![]() RE: Pride of the Midlands - AGAIN - drewks - 16-05-2015 Ahem.... ...not really sure whether we can justifiably say we are the 'Pride of the Midlands' after a season of struggle and clambering above the safety line with 2 games left! 'Pride of a Pretty Mediocre Bunch' may be more appropriate!! ![]() RE: Pride of the Midlands - AGAIN - Tom_Wba - 16-05-2015 Fancy that huge side in the Midlands who have won European Cup,have a massive stadium and no other Midland sides matter finishing below little Sandwell Town AGAIN |
