2014/15 Season Review (of sorts) - WakeyTerrier - 23-04-2015 Player of the Season For me Jacob Butterfield, by far and away IMO the best player for us. Always looking for the ball, always looking to drive forwards and not afraid to shoot. When we sold Clayton to Boro and got Butterfield plus cash in exchange I have no doubt in my mind that we got the better end of the deal. Young Player of the Season I'm going for Conor Coady, he looked a little flat of late but he hasn't looked out of his depth. He can pass, he can see this happening and cut the pass out and he has been known to score the odd goal he even looks like he can do a job at centre back if needed. This lad will only get better. Best game of the Season. Of the ones I've seen then I'm going for Town 2-1 Brentford back in December, just a great game of football by two teams playing attacking football. It was one of those game that could quite easily have finished 5-5,6-5 or 5-6 and you wouldn't have complained about the result due to the standard of football on show. Worst game of the Season I've seen a few shockers this season but I'm going for the opening game of the season Town 0-4 Bournemouth. They ripped us to shreds that day and it was like none of our team had met each other before. Looking back at the starting XI that day you have to think what was Mark Robins thinking...Matty Crooks in defence, Pelts in central defence?? Since then we've shipped out 6 of that starting line up,hardly seen Majewski and Stead who was on the bench has gone as well. Goal of the Season It's not a bullet shot from outside the box or even a overhead kick I'm going for. It's Towns opening goal against Derby last weekend. It's a team goal, where Town pass the ball about and probe trying to find that killer pass, that's exactly what we did and in fairness it wasn't a bad finish by Oscar Gobern. Best Player in the Championship(based on games against Town) Although I agree with Cas about Wilson being the best in the Division for Bournemouth overall I have to change that for games against Town. My pick for the best player against Town has to be Nathan Redman for Norwich City. He has absolutely terrorised our defences in both games, at Carrow Road he comes on as half time sub and changes the game. Yes we were down to 10 men but we just couldn't handle him, likewise down at the John Smiths Stadium he took young Carroll apart....pure class and wasted in the Championship. RE: 2014/15 Season Review (of sorts) - ARTERRIER - 23-04-2015 It's been a disappointing season for me, we should be higher up the table with the squad we have, although many Town fans seem content with the season, most notable on DATM. If I'm honest at times, we've been dross, at other times, good. Not sure what to make of the recent upturn in form, is it Powell's influence of is it because the pressure is off relegation wise? After the opening day trauma, we did eventually manage to turn it round and after Powell arrived put a decent little run together with victories over Blackpool, Wolves and Forest, played well at Fulham but lost, after that we seemed to lose our way a little again with Powell becoming ultra cautious at times. I'm waiting to see who we bring in during the summer, although I must say I do feel positive about next season, whether that's justified remains to be seen, would really like to see us go hunting a top ten finish. RE: 2014/15 Season Review (of sorts) - Lord Snooty - 24-04-2015 I reckon it's been another good season. Yes, it's been a bit dull at times, but then so is all football. There have been some belting games. The home win over table topping Forest, the draws with Norwich and Derby. And even the "hammering" we got at home to Wolves. Relegation avoided long before the final day. Sounds like success to me. ![]() RE: 2014/15 Season Review (of sorts) - WakeyTerrier - 24-04-2015 all I'll say is that the Chairman was aiming for 10th so if he is disappointed then why shouldn't Art be? It's been a season of ups and downs no doubt, hammering so by Bournemouth,Leeds,Norwich and Charlton were particularly bad days at the office. On the flip side the wins at home to Forest,Brentford,Watford and Ipswich were all very well deserved. When the window opens Town need to start by strengthening the defence, 79 goals conceded in 47 games tells a story on its own, if we can sort that out then we would comfortably be a mid table team with no relegation worries at all next season RE: 2014/15 Season Review (of sorts) - Terrier1987cas - 24-04-2015 Player of the Season Can't disagree with your choice. Butterfield by a mile. It beggards belief that the BWF voted Scanz ahead of him, there've been a few players who've been decent this season in spells, but only JB has been consistently good. Young Player of the Season I'll go for Harry Bunn. Coady is young but we knew we were getting quality when we signed him, whereas Bunn has come from nowhere to be something of a fan favourite and has played a pivotal role in some good results for us this season. He deserves it for his full debut alone away at Reading, one of the best performances I've seen from a Town shirt this season. Best game of the Season. I'll say the 4-4 draw with Derby. If I'm honest this season is the least I've ever enjoyed watching us as at times the football and the way we've set up has been depressing, but against Derby there was nothing to fret about as we were safe, the atmosphere was decent due to their big away following and their was goals and controversy galore! Worst game of the Season So, so many to choose from. Seriously we've had some awful performances mixed with depressingly dull games this term. I'll call it a tie - the defeat at home to Birmingham where we never even tried to win a game against a team who were struggling, and the defeat at Charlton where we did likewise and were thoroughly outlcassed by an average at best team. Goal of the Season Vaughan's goal against Ipswich the other week. Great interception by Gobern, quick ball to JB in space, then a perfectly weighted assist onto Vaughan's head and a just as perfect finish across goal. Best Player in the Championship(based on games against Town) I stand by my shortlist of 3 - Callum Wilson, Alex Pritchard and Nathan Redmond. I'll give it to Pritchard because I rate him really highly and I since I did that thread it's been revealed that we could have had him but Robins said no because he's 'too short'. RE: 2014/15 Season Review (of sorts) - Lord Snooty - 24-04-2015 Goal of the season will be Lynch's ovethead. Goal of the decade, never mind the season. RE: 2014/15 Season Review (of sorts) - MNTerrier - 24-04-2015 the way i see it the main problem we have had this season is a lack of depth and too many players who have the same style of play. the players we have are very capable of a top half finish the trick has been keeping them on the field, injuries to key players , Namely Lynch, Vaughan and at times Wells has shown shown how thin on the ground we are. a good clear out in january has left room for the 3 or 4 really good players we need, Left back is a priority although i would happily take Robinson or James back RE: 2014/15 Season Review (of sorts) - WakeyTerrier - 25-04-2015 Might have a problem playing Robinson, he'll be out for most if not all of next season but I take your point, left back required and at least 2 more defenders RE: 2014/15 Season Review (of sorts) - theo_luddite - 26-04-2015 Thought Robinson went about his business quite effectively and could have been an outside shout for player of the season. His cause not really helped by our awful goals against total but he was rarely given the run-around. Possibly most improved player, particularly as the season rolled on was Smithies. He's become much more commanding in his area. No doubt helped by having two chaps in front of him who don't charge around the area like headless chickens one minute and stand on his goal line holding his hand the next. RE: 2014/15 Season Review (of sorts) - Lord Snooty - 26-04-2015 Agree with Smithies but surely the most improved player is Scanz. He was a bit player under Robins and seemingly out of the door in the window. Now he's player of the season. |
