Gamboa speaks out !!! - Beefy 1965 - 17-03-2015 Ok I posted this thread last night but it seems to have been taken down or got zapped by Aliens, Mods any Ideas ? Costa Rica international full-back Cristian Gamboa said he is ready to leave The Hawthorns after claiming he is too short to play for West Brom boss Tony Pulis. Gamboa - an off-season arrival from Rosenborg following his exploits at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil - has only played one minute under Pulis since the Welshman replaced Alan Irvine in January. The 25-year-old, whose sole appearance under Pulis came as an 89th-minute substitute during last month's FA Cup fixture against West Ham, was an unused substitute in West Brom's 1-0 Premier League win over Stoke City on Saturday. Gamboa believes his size is costing him a spot in the starting line-up, with the Costa Rican resigned to leaving the West Midlands at the end of the season. "I don't play because the boss doesn't like me," Gamboa told The Mirror. "He has always liked these two-metre tall defenders and likes to play with four centre-backs. He doesn't like wing-backs capable of attacking. "My style doesn't suit his style. So, I have no chances of playing. "So, if this boss is still in charge at the end of the season, I will leave West Brom. I have to leave this club because I do know that this boss doesn't like me." From reports of his performance in the U21's (?) The 25 year old needs to up his game. I'm sure TP, with his experience, would not drop players unless they weren't up to the job - he'd look like a fool if they went elsewhere and proved him wrong. I'm as flummoxed as most as to why he won't play our current LB and RB but we have to trust his judgement, however hard that is. RE: Gamboa speaks out !!! - Beefy 1965 - 18-03-2015 We must also remember AI didnt even pick him ![]() As you say Willie this is a strange one, At the World Cup when I saw him i thought WOW what a player !!! WTF has gone wrong, His words are Interesting though a lot of Stoke fans said he likes playing with four big CB's, Exactly what he Gamboa says himself ![]() RE: Gamboa speaks out !!! - May68 - 18-03-2015 Expect a load of basketballers to sign for us if TP is given free reign over transfers in the summer. Fletcher and McManaman aren't basketballers. As with those two, I think he will rely on home-based players with proven quality, just hope there are enough of those available because we can't afford to mess up another window. I don't think TP will be looking for basketball players but what's wrong with having a preference for big, strong footballers as long as they're good and fit into how you want to play? In my opinion a good big un is better than a good little un, any day. RE: Gamboa speaks out !!! - BaggyBomber - 19-03-2015 ..........with apologies to the little people! Would you rather have Peter Crouch or Kevin Keegan??? ![]() RE: Gamboa speaks out !!! - talkSAFT - 19-03-2015 I'm not having a go - honest! I have full faith in TP, and he's done a great job. I didn't know where the next win would come from under AI. But..... TP did say that he had no preferred style of play, and would build his team based on the players available to him (quite rightly). But that philosophy doesn't quite ring true, when he has Poco (good) and Gamboa (v.good) who he won't play because of their lack of height. One of them - maybe - and Poco's no midget. Would he have left Derek Statham out back in the day? (I know football's changed in 35 years, but Statham WAS a midget). Like Beefy, I remember Gamboa's World Cup, and I thought he should have made the Tournament XI. We could do with some right-hand width, and he's like lightning. Give him a go, and tell Yacob to cover his forward runs. RE: Gamboa speaks out !!! - BaggyBomber - 19-03-2015 Gamboa looks an exciting little (that word again) player but, unless TP tells us, if he ever does, we can only guess why he doesn't select him. I can't really compare them but, I'd rather have a 6ft 4in Kevin Keegan than a 5ft 6in one! ![]() |
