Huddersfield Town travel to Horwich to the Reebok Stadium on Tuesday evening to play Bolton Wanderers in the 2nd round of this season's EFL Trophy.

It's now a straight knockout, with drawn games going to a penalty shoot out instead of extra time.

Tickets:

£10 Adults and £5 Concessions (Over 65s and Under 18s).

Head to Head

Bolton lead the head to head with 46 wins to Town's 37, with 20 draws.

Those statistics are from Soccerbase, which sadly hasn't included the game in the FL Trophy. We have only met once in this competition and that was on the 2nd of February 1993 at Leeds Road, four days before they would come back here for a league game.

Town won the Trophy game 3-0. There was a crowd of 2,996 there for what was an Area Quarter Final game. Our goals came from Iwan Roberts and Mark Stuart, with future Hibs, Rotherham and St Mirren manager, Alan Stubbs gifting us an own goal. They came back on Saturday and came away with a point in a 1-1 draw, which left us bottom of the 3rd Division. The Trophy results probably keeping manager Ian Ross in his job.

We lost the Area Semi Final 5-2 away at Wigan Athletic's Springfield Park.

A brief history of Bolton's recent record in this competition:

2023/24: Lost on pens in q/f at Blackpool.
2022/23: Won it, beating Plymouth 4-0 at Wembley.
2021/22: Lost in rd 3 at Hartlepool.
2020/21: Out in group stage.
2019/20: Lost in rd 2 at Accrington.

Trotters profiles:

Joel Coleman, our reserve keeper in the David Wagner promotion season, is there now. He hasn't played this season but was the one who played in all of the Trophy games last season.

Kyle Dempsey, who played 24 times for us in 2015/16, is now in his 4th season at Burnden Park. He's been a naughty boy and has to wear an electronic tag when he's not playing football, following his conviction for assault last year. He was given a 12 month suspended sentence.

The third ex Town player in their squad is Scott Arfield. Released in 2013 after three seasons at the Galpharm, he went on to have a great career despite that setback. He went to play for Burnley, winning promotion twice to the Premier League. Then on to Rangers for five seasons, winning the title in 20/21 and the Scottish Cup the year after.

He was a Scotland u21 player when he joined us, but later switched to Canada because his dad was born in Toronto, earning himself 19 caps.

Vertu? Who they then? Me neither so I went digging.

Apparently Vertu own a chunk of Bristol Street Motors franchises, amongst others, however another company with the same name is a manufacturer and retailer of luxury handmade mobile phones, established in 1998 and formerly owned by Finnish mobile phone manufacturer Nokia. Previously located in the UK, ownership of the brand is now contested between two entities located in Hong Kong and France.

My money is on the lads with the monkey wrenches, oily rags and dodgy 2nd hand car salesmen. Which reminds me, I need to visit some dodgy 2nd hand car salesmen to swap my 8 year old Astra for something with a few less miles on the clock. Pity Boycie's not still around, he came across as one of the more genuine folk in that business. Whistle

2. Is either a reference to the morning after a night of shami kebabs and a Vindaloo curry or it's Alan Gowling. Laugh
Somehow, I now can't unsee that, and
1. has to be the wierdest anagram of Frank Worthington ever

Also given you gave him a glowing write up, you had to include Scott Arfield somewhere, so I'm going for No. 8, which is where we should have played him (or 10) instead of out on the right all the time. Well, eveyone else did.

No. 4 - possibly the 3rd Stadium in the country that he (Ivan Grease - lol) should have a stand named after him? Nat Lofthouse has a statue outside, so a stand is in order here too I think.

3 - The Lady loves Milk Tray as well as Caramels, and so does Sam Allardyce.

7 - Joel Coleman's in there too.

Moved my phone to EE today - supposed to be done by 6pm. Passed midnight and still not working - how do these folk get jobs? Good job we don't get shit weather or earthquakes round here.

9 will be Kyle Dempsey, who's made a career for himself since leaving us, also got into a bit of trouble.

Ain't nobody like number 5, we'll meet him again when Cambridge come to town. Wonder how he feels about working under monk?

Benik Afobe is the fine answer to number 6
