WBA vs Ipswich & Cardiff - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 23-11-2023 A fortnight ago it wasn't to be, despite Albion giving as good as we got in the second half at Southampton. So we move on, but not to easier prospects: 2nd placed Ipswich are Saturday evening's visitors the Hawthorns, hell-bent on promotion under ambitious American owners and well-placed to achieve it as their current tally of 39 points is, together with Leicester, the most any club has notched from the opening sixteen matches of a Championship campaign. A ding-dong defeat to Leeds in August is their sole setback of the campaign so far, though 2-2 draws against Birmingham and Rotherham at the beginning of the month also took a little wind out of the sails; nevertheless, they're unbeaten on the road, with Nathan Broadhead and Conor Chaplin the usual scorers of their avalanche of goals and left-back Leif Davis the prolific supplier. Albion have lost only one of the last eleven in the league against the Tractor Boys, and the last Ipswich win at the Hawthorns was back in March 1999, but the current points gap between the sides suggests that history may not be the best guide to Saturday's tough encounter. A trip to Cardiff on Tuesday night follows, where 2021's 4-0 win remains Albion's only triumph since 1974. A home defeat against Norwich took them into the break, so we travel to Wales knowing it's not Mission Impossible, but nonetheless it's a tough nut to crack. With Leicester on the horizon the following weekend, we could do with taking something from these games, but realistically anything we get will be a bonus in a difficult fortnight. RE: WBA vs Ipswich & Cardiff - Match Thread - Blue Baggie - 23-11-2023 A win against Ipswich would be a great result. Nice write up Ska'd RE: WBA vs Ipswich & Cardiff - Match Thread - drewks - 25-11-2023 Great result and performance, apparently, against a very in-form Ipswich today. It sounds like it was 'one of those games' where everything clicked and we were well on top throughout. Well done chaps! ![]() ![]() RE: WBA vs Ipswich & Cardiff - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 25-11-2023 That has to be performance of the season. A team that's been bulldozing the whole division and they didn't get so much as a look-in, because we didn't give them one. Our counter-attacking is a joy to watch, we stayed disciplined and kept our shape even in the last quarter of an hour (which has been an issue), and it would have been 3-0 if Phillips had sorted his feet out in front of goal. Beer & pizza to complete a perfect Saturday? Don't mind if I do ![]() RE: WBA vs Ipswich & Cardiff - Match Thread - Blue Baggie - 26-11-2023 Considering the Tractor boys recent results today's performance in every respect was special. When Carlos gets it right we can be a very good side. On to the next. RE: WBA vs Ipswich & Cardiff - Match Thread - harrogatebaggie - 26-11-2023 Great result tonight against a team right at the top of their game. We made them look ordinary. We are looking a good side against good sides, Preston, Southampton (which I thought we deserved a draw) and now Ipswich. Looking forward to keeping it going against the likes of Cardiff, Leicester and Sunderland. We should also remember where we have come from, 1 year ago, after 17 games we were bottom of the division. CC is a magician, or it could all be down to hard work. Special thanks to whoever stopped the sale of Palmer to Luton, 3 million would have been a steal, he has come on in leaps and bounds and is my man of the season so far. Worth at least double that price now. Not that I want him sold. All we need for Christmas is a new owner, who knows how to run a football club. I am not asking for massive deep pockets, just someone who can find their pockets unlike Lai! RE: WBA vs Ipswich & Cardiff - Match Thread - Baggiebob(BBB) - 26-11-2023 Great result against an unbeaten 19 game team. If they can do that there's hope they can finish in the play-offs, or if we can get one great c/f into the final two. The 5th place must really disapoint some of the gloom merchants who in the earlier games prdedicted disaster and on the transfer situation. Come on you baggies, says me, a born baggies man. RE: WBA vs Ipswich & Cardiff - Match Thread - Blue Baggie - 27-11-2023 Things are looking positive at the club. We are looking more attractive to new potential buyers. It's a given were in the top 6 not just by luck. We may still have to sell to balance the books but even that shouldn't be a concern. Our management team are bringing through academy players who are waiting to step up. Griffiths, Fellows & Taylor are very capable. With a couple of others returning after injury we are well stocked. We should be selling a couple of players every year not hanging on to them until they become liabilities. Getting the balance right is always tricky but Carlos and his team have an opportunity to build a sustainable squad. Something we can all look forward to. COYB. RE: WBA vs Ipswich & Cardiff - Match Thread - valpayne - 27-11-2023 I dared to watch this onSS always a dangerous pursuit as I’m sure I’m a jinx ![]() RE: WBA vs Ipswich & Cardiff - Match Thread - talkSAFT - 28-11-2023 0-0 H/T Pretty poor 1st half (apparently). Just hope Wallace's injury not too bad. SARMIENTO!!!! 0-1 COYB!!! |
