MK News - themaclad - 01-06-2023 MK Dons have agreed a deal to re-sign midfielder Alex Gilbey. The 28-year-old will officially become new boss Graham Alexander's first signing when his contract with Charlton Athletic expires at the end of June. Gilbey, who made 105 appearances for MK Dons between 2017 and 2020, spent last season on loan with Stevenage. He told the club website: "As soon as I found out there was interest, I wanted to get this done because I wanted to come home and come back to the club." Gilbey has helped MK Dons and Stevenage go up from League Two and is eager to make it a hat-trick of promotions from the fourth tier of English football. "I absolutely loved my time here before," he added. "I'd say they were three of the best years of my career so far. I feel like I have some unfinished business to take care of and I want to help the club get back to where it should be." RE: MK News - themaclad - 16-06-2023 MK Dons have signed defender Cameron Norman on a free transfer. The 27-year-old will join the relegated Dons on 1 July, after his contract with Newport County expires. The right-back made 100 appearances for the Exiles over two seasons and was named their 2022-23 player of the year. "He has an excellent playing record over the last few years and he will give us a real attacking threat from a defensive position," head coach Graham Alexander told the club website. "With Cameron, there is a really good player already there, with a lot of good attributes, but there are also areas in which we feel he can still improve - and he wants to improve too." Norman, who came through Norwich City's academy, had two seasons with Walsall in League Two before joining Newport County. He rejected a new deal to stay with the Exiles earlier this month and says he received interest from other clubs before signing with the Dons. "I'm hungry to achieve," he said. "After I spoke with the manager, and he ran me through the goals and ambitions he had for the team, I couldn't get the idea of coming here out of my head and I wanted to get it done." RE: MK News - themaclad - 21-06-2023 MK Dons have signed goalkeepers Nathan Harness from Charlton Athletic and Burton's Craig MacGillivray. Harness made his sole league appearance for Charlton in April 2022. The 23-year-old played eight EFL Trophy games and also had loan spells at Billericay, Welling United and Bromley. Scot MacGillivray, 30, has made 238 career appearances for clubs including Harrogate, Portsmouth and Charlton and both deals will be completed on 1 July when their contracts expir RE: MK News - themaclad - 12-07-2023 Milton Keynes Dons have made their fifth summer signing by bringing in Bolton Wanderers defensive midfielder MJ Williams. The 27-year-old Welshman, who began his career with Liverpool, has signed on an undisclosed-length deal. Williams had triggered an extra year on his Bolton contract when he went past 100 appearances last season. He was part of Bolton's League Two promotion-winning team and also won the EFL Trophy with the Trotters. New MK Dons boss Graham Alexander has already signed midfielder Alex Gilbey, defender Cameron Norman and goalkeepers Nathan Harness and Craig MacGillivray this summer. "I spoke to the manager and it was a brilliant conversation," said Williams. "He wants promotion this season and that's what I've come here for." Since making his professional debut in an EFL Cup tie with Middlesbrough in September 2014, Bangor-born Williams has gone on to make 215 appearances with Notts County (loan), Swindon Town (loan), Rochdale, Blackpool and Bolton. RE: MK News - themaclad - 28-07-2023 MK Dons have signed New Zealand international centre-back Tommy Smith on a free transfer. The 33-year-old has agreed an undisclosed deal, having trained with the Dons for two weeks following his release by Colchester United. Smith made 95 appearances over three seasons with the U's. "This is quite a young squad and I know the gaffer wants me to come in and use my experience as much as I can, on and off the pitch," he said. "First and foremost, I want to contribute on the pitch and help the team get points on the board but naturally I'll try and be an experienced voice and help the players around me." Smith began his career at Ipswich Town, where he played almost 250 league games, before spending two years in the United States with Colorado Rapids. He has 50 caps for New Zealand, playing for them at both the 2010 World Cup and 2012 London Olympics. His arrival will help fill the gap created by Zak Jules' departure to Exeter City. "Adding Tommy's abilities on the pitch, as well as his character off it, will be a big thing for us," head coach Graham Alexander told the club website. "Already, in the short space of time that he's been with us, we have seen him pass on the experience and knowledge he has from playing at a higher level and internationally." RE: MK News - themaclad - 05-08-2023 MK Dons have signed former Morecambe forward Ashley Hunter, their seventh recruit of the summer transfer window. The 27-year-old made 21 appearances for Morecambe last season, with his only goal coming in a 1-1 draw with Oxford. Hunter began his career at Fleetwood Town before moving to Salford City, playing for current Dons boss Graham Alexander at both clubs. "I'm really happy to sign her and work with the gaffer again," he told the Dons website. RE: MK News - themaclad - 30-08-2023 MK Dons have signed Charlton midfielder Jack Payne on a season-long loan. The 28-year-old - who has won promotion from all three English Football League divisions - is Dons boss Graham Alexander's eighth summer signing. Payne told the club website: "It's always important to get a good feeling when you talk to a manager, and I got that straight away." Alexander said: "I tried to sign him previously so I'm glad to get the opportunity to work with him now." Payne began his career at Southend, helping them to win the League Two play-offs in 2014 before a switch to Huddersfield in 2016, who were promoted to the Premier League the following season. He enjoyed loan spells at Oxford, Blackburn and Bradford across the next two campaigns, winning promotion to the Championship with Rovers, before joining Lincoln, Swindon and then Charlton last summer, playing 54 times for the Addicks. Payne said: "The lads have been doing really well, so I don't expect to just arrive and go straight into the team but, obviously, I'm going to be doing my best in training, and when I get the chance, I'm going to give it my all to help this team continue to be successful." Alexander said: "We were really clear on what we needed to bring in. Jack is a player that we feel we need, complimenting Ash Hunter who we have also brought it in - one is a left-footer and one is right-footed, which gives us real balance." RE: MK News - themaclad - 01-09-2023 MK Dons have signed full-back Joe Tomlinson from Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old is the League Two club's ninth transfer-window signing, but details of his contract at Stadium Mk have not been revealed. Tomlinson has made four appearances for Posh this season, having spent part of the last two on loan at Swindon. "I knew of the interest early on in the window and it's a move I've wanted to happen for a while," he said. "(Boss) Graham (Alexander) is an experienced football person and I believe he will really help improve me as a player. "That's the aim coming here - to get better and better as a player and help MK Dons win games and be successful." RE: MK News - themaclad - 02-09-2023 MK Dons have signed Peterborough United full-back Joe Tomlinson, Port Vale striker Ellis Harrison and Aberdeen defender Anthony Stewart. Tomlinson, 23, and Harrison, 29, join the Dons for undisclosed fees. Stewart, 30, will have a second loan spell at the club for the rest of the campaign after initially joining during the second half of the 2022-23 season. The deals take the number of signings made by the League Two leaders in the summer transfer window to 11. "We like Joe's versality, his professionalism and his attributes - he is going to bring a lot of competition to the squad," Dons manager Graham Alexander said of Tomlinson. "Ellis brings a powerful presence to our front line - he can score goals and press with real energy. Anthony is already known to our fans but was unfortunate to get injured early in his last spell." RE: MK News - themaclad - 07-01-2024 MK Dons have signed attacking midfielder Stephen Wearne from fifth-tier Gateshead for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old has signed what the League Two club has described as a "long-term deal" at Stadium MK. Wearne played for Dons head coach Mike Williamson at Gateshead earlier this season, and has scored 11 times in 24 appearances this term. "I'm delighted to be here, I'm a bit overwhelmed," Wearne told the MK Dons club website. "It's an amazing club with amazing facilities and I'm really excited to get going." Wearne started his career on Teesside with Middlesbrough and has also had spells at Sunderland, Torquay and Grimsby. |
