Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 19-01-2023 It's an all-but-unparalleled run of form: nine league wins in ten for Albion is certainly unmatched in the 21st century, and while I haven't been exhaustive in my search through the records, the closest I can find at a glance anywhere in the club's history is the eleven-match winning streak that spanned the summer of 1930. It'll be sorely tested tomorrow night at Turf Moor, but the fact is, we could hardly go into a clash against the Championship's top side with more momentum behind us. The Clarets are on a seven-game streak of their own at the minute, having lost just twice all season, and thus stand on the verge of their best run since November 1991 when they were in the Fourth Division. The good news is that we've fared reasonably well against Burnley of late, with three consecutive draws in the league and four unbeaten visits to East Lancashire in the recent past. Our form is also that of a side who'd be neck and neck with the top two but for Steve Bruce: since Corberan's first game in charge, both Albion and Burnley have bagged 27 points exactly, while Sheffield United have taken 28. We'll need to cut out the errors at the back which have crept in since the New Year, but a clean sheet would guarantee us a point on Friday, and maybe more besides. It's not unthinkable. Having sprinted to a playoff position from the relegation zone in just two months, it would be a shame to give up on the automatic spots entirely. Even if Burnley get the better of us, it's a temporary setback and there's a long way to go yet. But a result would be a big, big statement for Albion to make. RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - 4evaabaggie - 19-01-2023 Ska, great write up, agree totally, about not giving up on automatic although the title is probably out of reach, 57 points up for grabs, 18 off top spot, we need to close a point a game on Burnley to the end of the season. That would give us the title by a point. 13 behind the blades, they could still be blunted and second place could be ours. A win at Burnley tomorrow makes 15 points to close in 18 games, more achievable, a massive statement to the rest of the league and a warning to Sheffield United. It may also cause a little wobble for the clarets. It needs a very strong if not perfect run in from us. If anyone can surprise or upset the record books ... It's the Albion. CoyB .... Bring it home. RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - drewks - 20-01-2023 I suppose this game could be seen as a real indication of where we have got to, in terms of the season and the other teams at the top. As you say Ska'd, even if we lose it's far from being the end of the season for us, but it'd be so good to bring at least a point back. I'm going for that - a draw. RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - 4evaabaggie - 20-01-2023 Drewks, even under the dinosaur we were picking up draws, far to many because we couldn't / he wouldn't attack or defend. Even so we managed a draw in the reverse home fixture. Both teams are in great form and playing better football than then. I am hoping for a win to boost our confidence further, also to send out a devastating message to the rest of the promotion chasing pack and maybe start a bit of a dip for Burnley. Would not be unhappy with a draw though. RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - Baggie_One - 20-01-2023 Furlong 1-0 Bagggggiiiies RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - Baggie_One - 20-01-2023 1-1 Deserved if I’m honest Been far too defensive against a well drilled team 2-1 Burnley Great free kick RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - harrogatebaggie - 21-01-2023 Well it shows Burnley are a good side and for all their possession, they only managed two shots on target. Whilst Burnley dominated it shows how well organised we are and how well Okay and Molumby work well together. I think Burnley have enough in hand to get automatic promotion, unless they suffer a really bad run of form. As for Sheffield Utd, they won against Hull but only just. Plus they are under a transfer embargo, this may mean they struggle in the latter end of the season and may encourage the likes of us, Middlesbrough, Watford and Norwich to have a chance of chasing them down. There may be a chance of that second place for someone. Hope we get back to winning ways and it is us! RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - Zinman - 21-01-2023 Amazed that the pitch wasn't booked for the foul on the edge of the box leading to their winner. RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - Dingle-Dingle - 21-01-2023 It`s obvious WBA need an out and out goal poacher, ala Gayle type. I don`t think Dike is the answer. DD#No1 ![]() ![]() RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - Baggiebob(BBB) - 21-01-2023 ![]() We played the better footie for the first 40mts, and then they got on top and pushed us back and back until we had to crack, and we did, twice at the end. You always felt we needed a 2nd goal to get a point which didn't come cos Dike was off form. Still it was a good effort and shows we up there with the best. COYB and Walsall keap winning. ![]() |
