Blackpool v Huddersfield Town REACTIVATED - Amelia Chaffinch - 17-01-2023

PART ONE - THE ONE WHEN IT WAS ABANDONED
[Image: OaFtKgQ.png]
~~~
Off for a lovely day at the seaside we go. I'm not going, primarily because I rarely do away matches now, but also this one had just about every element that I don't like about them when I did go there.
[Image: 1_JS258050978.jpg]
Saturday's weather is predicted to be sunny with cloudy spells, 5 degrees and 5% chance of rain at kick-off. Unfortunately we have been around long enough to take weather forecasts with a pinch of sea salt.
~~~
We're both languishing in the bottom 3, equal on 26 points; our superior goal difference (stretching a point there) puts us above them. Whichever of us wins... if either of us does, would put us above Cardiff if they lose to Millwall. I don't like all these ifs and maybes. Please, please, please give us a year in the midden of the table, no fricking dramas!

I don't love it now but I used to.
~~~
Head to head's fairly even although I prefer 21/22 to this season.
The last one at our place in Sept...
~~~
Who to watch...

[Image: vwgn22Q.png]

Their Theo was the one scoring last time we met.
~~~
Michael Appleton's starting XI and formation away at Watford last Saturday was:-
[Image: fkT7r4L.png]
That finished in a 2-0 defeat.
He doesn't seem to have a regular favourite formation.
~~~
What to eat...

You have choices

[Image: I3cblcm.png]

Yummy or yucky?
Talking of foody preferences... curry sauce, gravy or mushy peas with your fish n flips?
I'm mushy peas all the way as long as they're not congealed. I have brown sauce or tartare sauce. Anything else is wrong!  Tongue
Is it too dangerous to talk about teacakes, balm cakes, cobs, brown or white bread?  Doh
~~~
Famous Blackpudlians include Robert Smith of The Cure; not my style so wouldn't know which to include.
[Image: Robert-Smith-GettyImages-1139194660.jpg]
Surely there comes a point when you can't rock that look?
[Image: ricky-tomlinson-1.jpg]
Ricky Tomlinson; comedy genius, political icon and has one of the best catchphrases of all time ... my arse!
[Image: 4_VICTORIAjpictr.jpg]
Jenna Coleman who plays a slightly more sympathetic Queen Vic than she was in reality?
[Image: NTg0NS5qcGVn.jpeg]
The band Jethro Tull; again, not my thing.
~~~
What's it to be then on this roller coaster of a sport? A race to the bottom or the top?

PART TWO - THE ONE WHEN IT WAS REARRANGED
[Image: 1nbnlXq.png]
~~~
Assuming Blackpool doesn't suffer another big freeze or, indeed, flood, pestulence and plague, we try to complete this fixture again.
~~~
Tuesday is a mild 6 degrees with no rain predicted in the evening until 9pm. Still a little too cold for frolicking on the beach.
Today has seen us manage a 1-1 draw against QPR at home. Should have been a win with the second half performance. I had great hopes when Rhodes, m-m-my-koroma and knockers'art came on at the same time.
~~~
[Image: UcQsTQY.png]
This leaves us 3rd from bottom on 27 points, 1 point ahead of Blackpool who lost 3-0 away at Boro, and 2 points ahead of Wigan who face Blackburn away on Monday. Of course they have the chance to leapfrog us both if they win and you know that's just how this damned game goes sometimes.  Doh Come on Sorbs, help us out!
RE: Blackpool v Huddersfield Town - theo_luddite - 17-01-2023
Nice one AmChaff. I'm either either going mad or going stir crazy but I was looking at going, however it's now Tuesday evening and the apology for a train company called Avanti, should be "Avant-a-clue-i" still haven't decided if they are running any kind of service this weekend.
When it was Branson's train set it wasn't great but it was far better run. The government have eased Virgin out of every "franchise" they had and everyone has hit the buffers since, except Cross Country, yet their fares are now way above the comparative fares when Virgin ran both. I use getting to Heathrow as the comparison via Euston or Reading as my main comparison, including the Tube in Larndan or RailAir coaches from Reading. Under Virgin there was pennies if any difference.
One way or another I doubt I'm getting value for money so far from my old farts Railcard on any service as you just don't know when the buggers are going to run and even when I drive up for a home game, the short hop from Halifax to Huddersfield and back is timed all arse about face for matches (except Sunday when they run an hourly service).
I'm with you with the fish and chips AmChaff. You can't do gravy with fish no matter how it's cooked. Sick
Chips and gravy, chips and curry sauce? Yeah that's OK but not when you plonk a nice piece of battered cod or haddock on top.
Hopefully we'll go fishing for more than 1 goal this weekend. We couldn't hold on to a 1 goal lead with Corberan in charge, with The Tactically Bewildered one, we've no chance.
My favourite comedian Russell Kane goes on about Avanti.
On the topic of fish and chips, I don't do fish so that rules me out of that, I'll have chicken chunks or sausage if I'm having owt. Normally have curry sauce, mainly because I have mushy peas fairly often with other stuff.
In regards to comedians, you can't beat Peter kay, got to be up there with one of the best British comedians. I also like rhod Gilbert, jack Dee and Lee evans when they were doing the rounds.
I do like watching 8 out of 10 cats does countdown
Also can't beat the two Ronnie's and the likes of porridge
RE: Blackpool v Huddersfield Town - ritchiebaby - 17-01-2023
Fish, chips and brown sauce, please. NO SALT. The brown sauce has to be half sauce/half vinegar like most chip shops use. And no plastic forks. if having a carry-out. "Fingers were invented before cutlery" as my uncle used to say. If eating in, I'd have mushy peas anytime.
The Cure's best record has to be "Love Cats". The fact that Robert Smith doesn't rate it is a big plus. His photo looks like it could be Olivia Coleman (no relation to Jenna) listening to the BAFTA nominations in 2073.
Town and Blackpool will be at the bottom of the top and at the top of the bottom at the end of the season. Let us pray for our survival.
The Two Ronnies in their prime, especially the two country yokels in the pub and the four candles sketch, are my all-time favourites. Add in "modern" comics like Kevin Bridges and Jason Manford (who I didn't think I would like).
RE: Blackpool v Huddersfield Town - Amelia Chaffinch - 18-01-2023
YES Love Cats. I knew there was one of theirs Iiked!!! Thanks, Ritchie!
RE: Blackpool v Huddersfield Town - theo_luddite - 18-01-2023
Brizzles win last night means our only other home game this month has been postponed and another midweek fixture, when it's eventually replayed, that I probably won't get to.
She Sells Sanctuary is my favourite The Cure song.
RE: Blackpool v Huddersfield Town - WakeyTerrier - 18-01-2023
Another one here that doesn't do fish with chips, battered Sausage with chips and a portion of curry sauce all the way. if I'm pushed then a bit of ketchup.
Mushy peas is a no unless you are having them with a pork pie and Brown sauce only on my breakfast butties.
Blackpool, never liked it and never will. Can't even be arsed going for the footy. It brings out the worst Town fans, it's January and the away end is shit.
As for comedians.
Peter Kay is the best, no doubt about it. His sell out stand up tours show he is the best by far and that's before you factor in Phoenix Night, Max and Paddy and Car Share. He's a comedy genius.
Also been to see Jason Manford three times and every time he was very funny. His last tour show is available on iplayer
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/m001gty1/jason-manford
Kevin Bridges was excellent when he came to Wakey and the ticket price of £10 was equally as good.
RE: Blackpool v Huddersfield Town - jjamez - 18-01-2023
Yeah Jason manford is good, I must say I don't overly mind Michael McIntyre, although he can be a bit much at times.
Another classic is Morecambe and wise. Quite fitting that we are just a stone's throw away this weekend. Speaking of Morecambe, a journalist came in as a guest speaker on my degree one day, I think it was Adil ray and he mentioned how his family couldn't afford to go abroad on holiday like the other kids at school, they would go to Morecambe. But his dad would pronounce it more like mori cam bay to make it sound exotic and he'd say it at school to make people think he'd been away.
Just a little tale. Like I said it might not have been Adil, but I'm certain it was, it's the face I remember and he was an alumni so it fits
