WBA vs Rotherham - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 16-12-2022 Two households, both alike in victories, in fair West Bromwich where we lay our scene. But it's not Montague United and Dynamo Capulet going head to head at the Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon, rather those inseparable tablemates Albion and Rotherham, in 17th and 18th place respectively, each boasting 26 points accrued via six wins and eight draws. For the Baggies, the most recent of those triumphs on Monday night was a seasonal rags-to-riches tale which saw an early Sunderland lead overturned by a team that dramatically transformed at half-time from Bruce's Albion right back to Corberan's. Along the way we saw Tom Rogic truly arrive, Jed Wallace unleash his inner Beckham, and Daryl Dike muscle between two defenders and put his head to the ball as if he eats crosses like that for breakfast. It's still far from being a promotion-contending first XI, but sides who consistently produce those moments of quality end up closer to the top of the table than the bottom. In contrast, it hasn't been a happy ride for the Millers of late, as just one win in eight has left them firmly on the slide. If there's good news for them at all, it's that they've lost on just one of their past four visits to B71, though that defeat came on their most recent visit in early 2019. Producing fewer shots on goal than any other Championship team, Rotherham have relied on quality of chances above quantity, successfully converting a high percentage of efforts into goals; if they're to trouble Albion this weekend, it could very well be the age-old tale of one shot, one goal. That was certainly the case in their last win at Bramall Lane, where 33% possession and a couple of attempts on target resulted in an unlikely 1-0 triumph over the promotion favourites. Albion must be on guard. But if both teams continue true to form, and the Albion who played the second half on Monday night are at the wheel for a full ninety minutes, there's no reason why we shouldn't dodge the banana skin and complete a six-game winning streak for the first time in three years. RE: WBA vs Rotherham - Match Thread - 4evaabaggie - 17-12-2022 Great write up ska, if we beat Rotherham on Saturday does it count as two wins?. You said we'd be on a run of six wins for the first time in three years. We're currently on a run of four wins back to back, to reach six we will have to win at Highfield Road, sorry Northampton, sorry St Andrews, no still not right, The Ricoh arena/Wasps/whatever it's called now stadium, or wherever their playing come Wednesday. If we perform as we have done there winnable games. RE: WBA vs Rotherham - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 17-12-2022 You're quite right, we've won so many recently that I lost count! It'll be a streak of five for the first time in three years if we win today, and then we'd equal that winning run under Bilic with a victory in the week. That's a shame I was looking forward to the six points this afternoon for a two win match, perhaps we could suggest a rule change to the EFL, a joker, you can play it once and get double points ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: WBA vs Rotherham - Match Thread - Salopbaggie - 17-12-2022 (17-12-2022, 11:19)Ska'dForLife-WBA Wrote: You're quite right, we've won so many recently that I lost count! I am going to have to get my glasses checked, for a second I thought you said "I'll streak at five for the first time in three years if we win today". ![]() RE: WBA vs Rotherham - Match Thread - drewks - 17-12-2022 Well - another win! Confidence must be sky high now. Anyone go? If anyone was in ANY doubt as far as Mr Bruce's ability is concerned.... well..!! RE: WBA vs Rotherham - Match Thread - valpayne - 19-12-2022 I’m starting to believe! But seriously how can this be the same squad of players that only managed 2 wins in 16. It beggars belief that the lacklustre under achieving squad are now performing like this! I was sceptical of Bruce from day one but I never thought he’d be that awful and damaging. I was also unsure that Carlos would make the difference he has given his relatively short history of managing but he clearly is a very talented manager/coach. This is a team full of belief and quality that was somehow deep in a football coma. Boing boing RE: WBA vs Rotherham - Match Thread - Stairs - 20-12-2022 I agree. I am amazed at the transformation. Same squad and totally different results. If ANYONE takes Steve Bruce on to manage their team after seeing what has occurred at West Brom then they should be removed from that club immediately and the fans should riot! |
