Having successfully taken Albion from borderline playoff contenders to relegation dogfighters in under nine months, Steve Bruce can finally resume his no-less-impressive contributions to the world of literature and leave someone else to pick up the pieces at the Hawthorns. Exactly who that may be remains uncertain at this moment in time, which means we'll be visiting Reading on Saturday - and perhaps even welcoming Bristol City in midweek - without a permanent boss at the helm.

Flying high in 5th place, the Royals have lost their last three encounters with Albion, but have never in history made it four defeats in a row against the Baggies. Form is also on their side, as they've lost just one at the Madejski so far this season, while the Baggies continue to endure their worst winless run outside the top flight since February 2000. It's probably a bit early for a new manager bounce, but if we can find a sacked-the-old-manager bounce from somewhere, the points would be welcome this week.

Perhaps the only good thing about us and our current league position is that virtually everyone we play is above us and therefore technically we're underdogs.

For numerous reasons this is my first fixture to attend this season. And even then it is post operation and against advice that I am going.

Shoulder surgery so nothing life threatening but will be in a sling and told to avoid contact, get knocked, for a few weeks.

But I am going to sit sedately, in the stand and watch what I now hope with be a display of post regime energy and freedom of expression.

Be warned Reading as this could be one of those fixtures!!

I am on strong pain meds as well and so fantasy and optimism abounds.

Take it easy, Stairs. Don't get clapping our goals too rigorously.

Not gonna lie, I saw the words "post operation" and wondered for a second if we'd be calling you Barbara from now on Laugh

Hope you stayed nice and sedate when Phillips put us ahead!

Decent display up to now. Sean Dyche is also there. Coincidence or not time will tell.

Incredible scenes. Can we sack Steve Bruce every week?
