Rotherham Utd v Huddersfield Town - Amelia Chaffinch - 11-10-2022

On Saturday we travel to New York Stadium, State of New York, Rotherham, which is in a whole other type of state. It's another early kick-off.

Start spreading the news...

... if we can make it there. we can make it anywhere, it's up to you New Yorkies...

Rotherham, although 6 places above us, are only on 15 points, almost catchable. They haven't won in 4 and their last outing was a loss. We have a very good record against them. We haven't played them since the 20/21 season and both ties ended  in draws. Strangely enough, our equaliser in the 1-1 at their place came from an own goal!

Nigerian Chiedozie Ogbene is a ROI international. Richard Wood hails from Ossett. He was named co-caretaker with Pelts following Paul Warne's departure. Englishman Daniel Barlaser has played for Turkey U16 and U17s before playing for the England U18s. It's a funny old world.

Matt Taylor has now been named the manager of Rotherham. He had one previous managerial job at Exeter and took them up to League One last season. As a centre back he played for many teams including Halifax Town (yay) and Bradford City (nobody's perfect). He comes from Chorley.

There are a few who have played for both but probably most notable is Danny Ward (from Bradford, I refer back to Matt Taylor section with regard to that place). Is that where he went when he was a chubbier version of what he is now? Currently Scott High (from Dewsbury, same comment applies as to Bradford) is there on a season-long loan. He has been in the team but not for the last 2 games. Is he injured? I can't find anything on that. Or doesn't Matt Taylor like him? Lee Peltier who I have already mentioned as a co-caretaker manager, has also played for both clubs. Mark Robins managed both and played for Rotherham.
Nick Banks, drummer, of Pulp fame was born in Rotherham. He is a nephew of Gordon Banks.
Ironically, thanks to the Tories, we're all getting to live like common people.
Another from Rotherham is Tony Capstick.
Another reminder of how far we've risen above our stations. We should just bloody well get back there and let t'rich folk sort it all out for us and throw us a few scraps.
Paul Shane, the ever-elegant (particularly when on Shooting Stars) Lynne Perrie and brother Duggie Brown, not to mention the Chuckle Brothers, all came from Rotherham.
And ... Dean Andrews who played DS Ray Carling in this classic...
Margaret Thatcher's policing style.

Scotty Highlands played for their B team yesterday against our B team. He'd be ineligible to play in this one anyway, seeing as he's on loan.

For some reason, for donkeys years I used to think Capstick was from t'other side o't'hill. Might have been the way he used to say (as he held a small squeeze box between his knees), "it takes an 'ammer, a chisel and a fortneet to tune one of these".

Now if I've mixed 'im up with someone else (it's likely and it definitely wasn't Mike Harding) you can lob barm cakes at me until I'm black and blue the next time you catch me in any cafe in Lancastria. Memories eh? I used to have one of those. Thanks for pulling that one out from 'tbottom o't'pit AmChaff Thumb up

Don't think that team is anything unexpected. They have an aging defence which will probably read it well but can be got at by pace

RE: Rotherham Utd v Huddersfield Town - Lord Snooty - 15-10-2022

Fairly even first half. Shame Jordan couldn't get his feet sorted out, twice. We could've been 3-1 up.

RE: Rotherham Utd v Huddersfield Town - theo_luddite - 15-10-2022

Yup, and not getting to the 2nd ball in the box we're now 2-1 down.

RE: Rotherham Utd v Huddersfield Town - Lord Snooty - 15-10-2022

Poor second half. We were well on top, great shot by Jackson, followed up by Rhodes who was just offside. But then they score against the run of play and we did sod all afterwards.

Subs didn't help at all. Poor choice to make three at once. Disrupted the flow.

Penalty was absolutely nailed on but the ref was unsighted because he was too far behind play. Liner must've seen it. Piss poor officiating again, but that would've been an undeserved point.

We just weren't good enough.
