Rowe boards the wrong boat - Devongone - 24-08-2022

Danny Rowe has gone out on loan to AFC Fylde.

Could this be our most stupid move since Sheri tried out a nine-year-old Swede in goal at Oldham?

If Danny Rowe is fit he is good enough to make our 16 each week.

I'm not sure I trust James Rowe to keep him fit.

I'm amazed by how poorly Fylde have started and wonder if this move represents managerial desperation.

I'm also not sure it does much for our reputation to continue to deal with Fylde, whilst Mr Rowe is in charge there.

For Danny Rowe this represents back to the cosily familiar. An easy move, a no-brainer, which is exactly the same amount of brain power we've exercised in this instance.

He was ours till January. We should have kept Danny Rowe till then and we'd have known how our challenge, or not, was panning out, or not.

I must admit that I was a bit surprised at this one as well. If the aim is to get him back to full fitness as quickly as possible, I would have thought that we would have been best advised to keep him here where we could control and monitor his progress. I also agree that James Rowe doesn`t have the greatest track-record when it comes to keeping players fit. I may be wrong – again – but personally I don`t think we`ll see Danny Rowe playing for us again. He`s in his 30s now and I reckon that Cookie has decided that with Asante fit and firing on all cylinders again, and with one eye on the budget as ever, he has other younger options. I hope I`m wrong, mind; I like Danny Rowe a lot.

I`m not with you on the reputation bit, though. I don`t see any reason why either James Rowe individually or Fylde as a club should be treated as pariahs by us or anybody else. Somebody please correct if I`m wrong, but as far as I know we parted company with JR because of an allegation that was made but which hasn`t yet been followed by any prosecution or conviction. Innocent until proven guilty, and all that. I did get the impression, though, that there was a bit of blood between us and him; didn`t both he and Fylde accuse us of touting the story around the press after he left? We refuted the accusation, but I`m surprised that things seem to have mended so quickly that we`re prepared to do business with each other after this short a timespan. Business is business, I suppose.

I might be persuaded by the innocent until proved guilty argument SGB if WE weren't the accusers. Surely we believe JR is guilty or he wouldn't have been transported to Fylde? Considering what we said and Fylde's protests, the fact we are now doing business makes it look like just another little case of water under the bridge.

In a country in which roughly 2 in every 100 rape allegations ends up in court we can't rely on either prosecution, or conviction as evidence of innocence or guilt. In the current state of our legal system any woman alleging sexual misconduct against a man needs an awful lot of courage to press ahead with the case. If and when she does she'll be made to feel like the procurer of the crime of which she is the victim.

It looks as though we are saying James Rowe's behaviour and Fylde taking him on at the drop of a hat either never happened, or it is now okay in our book. From a football and a moral point of view we shouldn't be doing this so soon. If we get Danny Rowe back, it'll be a broken version we have to keep on the books and repair.

Have either of you thought that maybe the player wanted to go? He's well liked there and maybe they will soon be looking for a new manager.
Our team is super fit with quick movement and passing. Danny Rowe is surplus to our requirements and wouldn't fit in with our current style of play.
It's rumoured he's our top earner, if so it's a bit of a no brainer as it seems they will pay his full wage.

You may well be right, Dancing. I`m sure that the budget is an important factor, but if DR sees his opportunities with us being limited in the future - which they probably will - he may prefer regular games elsewhere with a view to moving into coaching later on. Any idea how long he has left on his contract with us? It can`t be much further than the end of this season, I would have thought.

Apparently he lives that way. Played for Fylde before, a fan favourite over there.

I agree with SaltergateBorn. I would be very surprised if we see him play for Chesterfield again. Fylde will probably make a bid for him in January.

RE: Rowe boards the wrong boat - Devongone - 25-08-2022

Of course it's an easy move for Danny Rowe, and one that suits him.

He doesn't strike me as a natural high-pressing player either, but if in a few weeks we are in eleventh place in the league are we going to stick by the same failing tactics. That's one of the reasons Wrexham missed the play-offs last season.

Now lets say tomorrow we beat Barnet but Quigley gets crocked and is out for a few weeks, Asante and Kabby looks the natural pairing, but you need a forward on the bench. If we were struggling wouldn't you like to see us adding in Danny just behind them using that space to fire in the odd howitzer and available to take you a dead ball? I know I would.

If we don't want to pay Danny his wage we shouldn't have done the deal. If we let every player go where he wants, rather than his contract dictates, Danny will be at Fylde for sure, Loz Maguire will get a new three-year deal with us, Kabby will be off to further his career in the EFL and Dobra will be making eyes at a Championship club. How many of our players do you think would be at Chesterfield as their very top choice if they had their druthers?

We won't ever see Danny Rowe playing for Chesterfield again, even though we spent many, many thousands getting him back to fitness. Morally it is wrong move, in football terms it is short-term thinking and financially it throws the thousands we've spent down the drain, to accommodate a wage bill we seem to be able to afford anyway.

Danny came on with about 25 to go for Fylde in their 0-1 away win.

RE: Rowe boards the wrong boat - Devongone - 30-08-2022

Apparently big trouble at Chester v Fylde. Chester fans abusing Rowe in front of his family. Fylde's kit man apparently attacked by Chester Manager, who hates fylde who sacked him a couple of years ago. Police involved. Fylde kitman apparently a grandad, really old, 67, I'm 70 thanks.

RE: Rowe boards the wrong boat - Dancingwilldoit - 30-08-2022

Trouble certainly seems to find James Rowe wherever he may go. I'm a year younger than than you and just couldn't be arsed getting aggressive with anyone. Much better to bide your time and let their tyres down or something similar.
Hope Danny knows what he is doing..
