Being disappointed with a point is just great - Devongone - 21-08-2022 Well, I was impressed. Looked in the Non-League Paper this morning and discovered the reporter had obviously been at a different game. First, the best player on the pitch by a country mile was Dobra. If he keeps playing like that for us his future should be comparable to Sorba Thomas. Championship clubs should be taking a look. Where Ipswich were looking I don't know. He works, he has skill and he is perceptive. He'll get full Albanian caps as Sorba Thomas has done for Wales. Apart from about ten minutes I thought we were well the better side in and out of possession. County's star man Rodrigues, who is a very, very good player at our level, didn't really turn up and contrasted starkly with Dobra. Langstaff looked very sharp indeed once he had someone to play with, but Rodrigues gave him nothing and though Kairo Mitchell was okay, there was no sign of a partnership. But my opinion was that in all areas we were superior. Our keeper was sound, better than Mrs Slocombe. Our defence, despite a terrible howler, coped better than theirs, which surprised me. There was a gulf between the sides in midfield, Banks, Mandeville, Oldaker, and Dobra were far more creative than their opposite numbers, so Quigley and Asante up front were able to do well, whilst Notts only became dangerous after making substitutions. At 0-2 the score line was an accurate reflection of the game. I thought 2-2 distorted it and flattered County. It's significant we looked far the more likely to win the game in the closing minutes, despite being the away team. Notts County are obviously a decent side who will be up there to the end. My disappointment at only drawing is really encouraging. I thought we'd struggle to hold them. Last season it was away form that let them down. At home they were great. Dangers for us were King AGAIN involved himself in an off-the-ball that could have got him sent off. Can't he just be satisfied with being the best full back in the league? AND Horton, looks a nice player, particularly going forward, but his moment of brain fog cost us two points. The first defensive lesson any childhood full back gets is never to let himself knock it across his own box. In one moment of indecision he let that happen. If in doubt shoe it, however bad that looks. A goal against always looks worse. And Albania won the Women's Steeplechase too. RE: Being disappointed with a point is just great - Dancingwilldoit - 21-08-2022 Not as good a performance as against Wrexham but still the better side. I thought Quigley was immense and was my mom. Not sure what dobra is doing playing for us but he shouldn't be at our level. My only criticism is he can be prone to just do too much and ends up losing the ball. Have said before that king is like a volcano. Surely we can't afford to have him and covalan in the same team, 9 players can't win against 11. Barnet next, should be interesting RE: Being disappointed with a point is just great - SaltergateBorn - 22-08-2022 I didn`t get chance to see or listen to the game, so thanks for the reports. From what you both say there seems to be more reason for optimism than pessimism, although we need to get out of this habit of giving away 2-goal leads; it`s happening too often. Still, as Phil Tooley says in his Take, I think most of us would have accepted the offer of 4 points from these last 2 games; I certainly would. I read the Non-League Football paper these days as well, Dev, and what amuses me most is the obsession with one particular club. It`s all Wrexham, Wrexham, Wrexham ad nause-bloody- Wrexh-am. the BBC is `slightly` guilty of that (I`m being sarcastic there) as well. Never mind, it all adds to the pressure on them and keeps us out of the spotlight for the time being. We need to win on Friday, though, and Barnet have been a bit of a surprise package this season so they`ll be no pushovers I reckon. I`m going to try to get there and pick up a ticket for Alty at the same time; otherwise I`ll have to go in the home section - again. RE: Being disappointed with a point is just great - Devongone - 22-08-2022 Dancing, Quigley did very well, but he has to be given the ball. Dobra goes and gets it. Yes there is a danger of him doing too much occasionally and losing the ball, but I love the way he is permanently looking to put someone in the clear. If Clarke gets fully fit and remains that way we'll take some stopping. I note Dagenham kept a clean sheet after leaking goals everywhere once they put my mate Tavares into the team. We should have signed him. We have to play King - he is the best in the League. Cookie needs to yell at him eyeballs-out and apoplectic as he does to refs if/when he gets in trouble. He is wasting himself at our level because of his temper. I suggest installing a waterboard in the changing room. Salts, the BBC website is much more Wrexham biased than the Non-League Paper. Someone farts in the boardroom and it's on the Beeb website in minutes. If Wealdstone signed Cavani and Eddie Izzard to play up front they'd get two lines in News of the day. But you have to admit Wrexham do make good stories. And they do piss you off too. I forecast they'd win 6-0 on Saturday and they stop at bloody five. Why? It would have been a genius prediction. Notts County urgently need a more mobile centre back, and even more urgently they need to get Rodrigues to want the ball. RE: Being disappointed with a point is just great - spireitematt - 24-08-2022 The game changed when Notts made there double substitution. 4pts from Wrexham and Notts is good considering they are both promotion challengers with ourselves (hopefully). The standard of referring in this league though hasn't got better since we've been in this league, seems to have got worse. I've also noticed a few refs at this standard love giving yellow cards for nothing. I think the power goes to their head and they just do what they want. |
