Blackburn vs WBA - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 13-08-2022 With three matches down in all competitions and Albion as yet undefeated, the stern tests just keep coming. Sunday afternoon takes us up to Ewood Park, where Blackburn sit third in the table following back-to-back victories, without conceding a single goal so far. Our Rovers record is a decent one, last losing to the East Lancashire side on New Year's Day 2019, and winning 2-1 at Ewood last season; a second consecutive win on their turf would be a feat we haven't achieved since the 1890s. Hunting for that win may now be a little harder in personnel terms: the loan exit of Alex Mowatt is naturally a disappointment, and a loss to the team we were hoping to build this year, and it's vital that the wages saved go towards a striker who can take some pressure off Karlan Grant, currently the supplier of 45% of our goals under Steve Bruce. Another point here would run the risk of making us look like draw specialists - it would, indeed, be the first time we've commenced a campaign with a hat-trick of draws since the Great Escape season - but realistically, handed a tricky opening with the team still a work in progress, we take what we can get. With Cardiff and Hull on the horizon, a point here would keep the tally ticking over until we can fire on all cylinders. RE: Blackburn vs WBA - Match Thread - Salopbaggie - 14-08-2022 Grant has made it, Yok on the bench. Button; Furlong, Ajayi, O’Shea, Townsend; Molumby, Livermore; Wallace, Swift, Diangana; Grant. Subs: Palmer, Bartley, Gardner-Hickman, Yokuslu, Reach, Phillips, Robinson RE: Blackburn vs WBA - Match Thread - drewks - 14-08-2022 Would be great to see Diangana back firing on all cylinders again RE: Blackburn vs WBA - Match Thread - Baggie_One - 14-08-2022 Losing 1-0 Diaz RE: Blackburn vs WBA - Match Thread - 4evaabaggie - 14-08-2022 Three league games, Middlesbrough .... their First shot .... Result - goal ![]() Watford ...... Their First shot .... Result - goal ![]() Blackburn .... their First shot ... Result - goal ![]() We are struggling to score so it's imperative we defend. Every league game we are falling behind to the opposition's first shot. Do we need to button up our goalkeeping or should it be button down to the bench. Season will be hard, harder if we constantly concede the first goal every game. ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: Blackburn vs WBA - Match Thread - Slick_Footwork - 14-08-2022 Plenty of huffing and puffing, but we don't look like we have a goal in us... Obviously hope I'm wrong, but we're showing nothing in forward areas. Seem to be decent until the final 3rd then we run out of ideas and just put a hopeful cross in, despite the fact we haven't got a player who can head the ball... or in Furlong's case, a hopeful cross into touch. He's back up to his old tricks and one good performance in 50 doesn't make him good enough. A new right back is imperative. Midfield duo all too happy to keep playing backwards and sideways ball. In Mulumby's case, often when there is a forward ball on. I know they played well against Watford but I'm a firm believer in playing your best players. Neither of these 2 are Prem class yet Yokuslu excelled there. He should be the first name on the sheet. The only player really playing positive penetrative passes forward is Ajayi. Unfortunately his defending was p*ss poor for their goal. How can you let a big lumberer like Diaz take you on on the deck? We just don't seem able to replicate our home form away. It was the same last season under Bruce when we we managed to beat Fulham and Bournmouth at home, but follow up with limp performances losing against Blues and Stoke. Hoping for a better 2nd half but it seems to be the same old story under Bruce. The occasional great performance followed up by a lifeless, shapeless, limp performance. We do have the better players so we should still get some result. But I wouldn't hold my breath that we're going to score 1, never mind 2 goals. RE: Blackburn vs WBA - Match Thread - Baggie_One - 14-08-2022 2-0 Poooooor RE: Blackburn vs WBA - Match Thread - 4evaabaggie - 14-08-2022 Game over ...... Unless we get a player who can play in the final third we will be in the EFL for a long time to come. Always going to be tough but 2 - 0 down, time to call Tom Cruise. MI9 Early days but fourth bottom and Coventry have a home game in hand. The only way is up .... Apart from the three places below us. RE: Blackburn vs WBA - Match Thread - Baggie_One - 14-08-2022 Diagana Back in it RE: Blackburn vs WBA - Match Thread - Slick_Footwork - 14-08-2022 And there we have it. 2 points from 3 games... How to analyse this performance? Well, we're miles off being a good side. So many none performers today. Grant was absolutely appalling. Swift terrible. The central midfield duo happy to just tip tap around. Full backs absolutely dreadful... But how long until we have to start questioning Bruce? He brings Wallace to the club, who is clearly a crosser rather than someone with a creative pass and gets rid of Carroll and plays Grant on his own up top for 100 minutes... He could at least throw on Bartley for the last 10 surely. But no, let's bring Adam Reach on instead... No idea what position Robbo was playing when he came on... And as for Phillips coming on at right back, is TGH really that bad? The likes of Reach and Phillips are the players we should've been looking to get off the wage bill. But instead Mowatt goes? Our best player sat on the bench watching that dross for 60 minutes... Bet he's really glad he turned down Galatasary and Champions League football now... It's difficult to be critical after the Watford performance, but like I said in my last post, we saw this last season. Performing excellent to beat Fulham and then losing to Blues without laying a glove on them. I just don't see what our identity is. We don't ever seem to to try and win away from home. Just seem to turn up waiting for the opposition to score... We're miles off, with no money, and a manager who will not know a good player as long as he's got a hole up his arse... Just buys individuals with no idea of how they will fit into a system... We should win the next few, but who knows what to expect from this team. |
