Aaron Ramsdale - Devongone - 19-08-2021 Chesterfield did it. Bournemouth did it. Sheffield United did it. Wimbledon are the only club so far to avoid doing it. Getting relegated with Aaron Ramsdale in goal. Wimbledon were miles behind when they signed him and he won their Young Player of the Year when they stayed up. Are Arsenal a good, surprise bet to go down? Would you pay £30million for a goalie with no full England caps when you already have an international keeper and plenty of other weaknesses in your team? He's a decent keeper, but I can't forget he opened up his account for us with two howlers at Accrington I think. Every young player makes mistakes, but if the prospect of an Arsenal transfer was too much for him and forced the Blades to play rush-goalies against West Brom', how much pressure will he come under from his own fans when Arsenal start losing? If they want to spend a lot on a young keeper, take a look at Shakhtar Donetsk. RE: Aaron Ramsdale - spireitematt - 19-08-2021 Arsenal seem to building a team for the future by signing young players. Arsenal are a team in transition and I reckon they will finish somewhere near mid-table. £30 million for a keeper with no full England caps is a lot of money for a player. He's only 23 so he's got a lot of time to become a top keeper. Good keepers need a strong defence and without a strong defence then teams will leak goals and it's very easy to blame a keeper and make him the scapegoat but at the end of the day football is a team game and everyone has to be on form on the day. RE: Aaron Ramsdale - Devongone - 20-08-2021 The trouble is Matt, if you become a scapegoat in goal, then you lose your ability to be a good keeper. When you are coming for a high ball for instance you need to be focusing on that ball and know in your head where the players are around you - nothing else. You don't need to be remembering last week when you dropped one and Harry Kane scored, or what all the fans said about you on Twitter ............ Against West Brom' Sheffield United fielded a keeper who absolutely froze when they peppered him with high balls. I'll bet his head was full of everything he'd ever done wrong. I do think Arsenal could find themselves in a relegation battle despite having some brilliant young players. And I wouldn't buy Aaron for any more than £10 miilion, but I would bid for Shakhtar's young keeper, they are a selling club! While I'm at it Arsenal have alot of players they could do with selling - Pepe, Willian, Guendouzi, Cedric Soares, Elneny, Kolasinac, Mavropanos and Rob Holding just to name few I can think of. Then they might use some of the money to buy Cody Gakpo from PSV, Sven Botman from Lille and Pape Sarr from Metz, all young players at clubs which could be tempted to sell. |
