Farewell Ernie Moss - Dancingwilldoit - 12-07-2021

One of our greats. Not had a good retirement but well be remembered for his good days by all Spireites. RIP.

RIP. A proper football legend.

RE: Farewell Ernie Moss - Devongone - 13-07-2021

The first time I saw him was playing for the Youth Team when we reached I think the semis of the FA Youth Cup, which was unbelievable. Even then he was big and brave, heading everything, looking every inch a proper centre forward.

His later years have been tragic.

For all the goals he scored and made for us the one I'll always remember is the comic one at Mansfield. Kevin Randall handled one into the net so obviously the only two people who missed it were the referee and linesman and Ernie grabbed the other when a clearance hit him up the arse and flew into the goal. There is no better way to win at Mansfield.

Kevin was a lovely player, but you couldn't always rely on him to give 100%, but for Ernie Moss 100% was the default setting and he spent his career trying to give even more. Ernie lacked the natural ability to make it to the very top, but the centre half has not yet been born who wouldn't have found him a handful.

Cant remember the first time I saw him play but saw him score god knows how many goals at Saltergate and he deserved better in his later years.
Remember Moss and Miller sports shop on Chatsworth Road, if he was there he always had time to chat, a proper old school player and gent.

The club should build a statue or name a stand after him.
