Having prolonged the inevitable about as far as could be expected - certainly further than I expected in the depths of winter - the inevitable has crept up on Albion, and the coming days may well see the long-dangling sword of Damocles (or sword of Sam-ocles, as the case may be) finally fall on our hapless heads. The survival fight will be over irrespective of other results if Albion lose to Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday night; a draw would keep us alive at least until Monday evening, but dependent on a Burnley defeat to last any longer.
As in previous matches, while I think the eventual outcome is inevitable, my hope is that the team don't just roll over and give up. These four matches are effectively a job interview for who stays at the Hawthorns next season, and that includes the manager. A bit of fight, even if it's too late, wouldn't go amiss.
Sunday 9th May, 19.00: Arsenal vs WBA
Sunday 16th May, 16.30: WBA vs Liverpool
Wednesday 19th May, 20.15: WBA vs West Ham
Sunday 23rd May, 16.00: Leeds vs WBA

The best thing for me about that run of matches is that apparently we refused to move the Liverpool match to make life easier for Manure after their postponement. They should have forfeited it anyway.

On the classical allusions front, I did also toy with Damysus of the Gigantes, whose ankle was grafted onto the burnt foot of Achilles to give him his notorious Achilles heel. Sam-ysus of the Gigantes does have a certain ring to it. (If nothing else, the fact that the Gigantes were created when Uranus was castrated seems oddly fitting.)

Errr, and as for Sam Allardyce's team (er.......West Bromwich, that's it!....) well, they're relegated again. But back to Arsenal......

Futile to even point it out, but I think we all know that if that Bartley goal had been scored at the other end, VAR would have overturned the offside decision quicker than you can say "bent, crooked joke of a league."
So glad we don't have to put up with this next season.
