Although there was a lot of apprehension at the start of the game, I thought we were much better than of late. I thought Morrison was excellent. Varela, Poco and Ideye linked up well when pressing ahead and it was good to see some badly needed pace on the wings. I’m not too concerned with how much possession we have – it’s what you do with it that counts. I thought there were a number of improvements – like fighting for the ball and not constantly passing backwards and sideways and playing with more of a determination to win. There’s no doubt that there are areas where we need to improve but it’s good to look at the positives and try to learn from the negatives, then hopefully we’ll start getting the confidence to start scoring the goals we so badly need.

Crucially, now we have the likes of Varela in, there are actually options for passing forward which just weren't there before. Imagine having players who actually run up the field! Rolleyes

Really need to get at least a draw at QPR next week though. Lose that and we're right back in it with some tough holiday fixtures on the way.

The pressing was excellent yesterday as someone mentioned.

After this game I’m a bit torn in my opinion. We got the 3 points and tnh, I said before both games that against hull and villa we should be looking at 4 points and all have duely delivered. I also saw a stat that we are currently joint 2nd in clean sheets with only Southampton better! Which shows that although yes we are playing boring negative football, it is actually helping the defence.

The other side of this though….my god we’re dull!!!! Yes we seem to be picking up points by it does appear to be in the dullest way imaginable but I suppose we then have to weigh up do we want exiting football with the potential of relegation or do we want solid football that is uninspiring but will probably keep us up?

I think this weekend though there we’re glimpses of hope. Varela and I think brown actually played quite well. We were actually more attacking than I’ve seen us in a long time and to be honest, we could have beaten them by 3 or 4 in the end. The reason we didn’t and the whole game stank of a huge lack of confidence, the whole team seemed scared to shoot even. Hopefully this win bill now breed a bit of confidence in the team and will see us start to see a bit more productive when we do go forward.

But for now, I’ll take the win and move onto the QPR game where we should be getting 3 points.

COYB!

Yes, another massive game coming up at QPR. It won't be easy and they'll fancy beating us, especially with having Charlie Austin in their side. But I am equally sure we've got the players to beat them. James Morrison for me has to start.
