The penultimate home game at Headquarters in the four day game this season, sees us in the relegation zone, we take on Hampshire who are one place above us, coming off the back of a poor result at Worcester it is time to start sticking in some winning performances otherwise we are Colwyn Bay bound next season.
Apart from Jennings and Davies batting is a bit fragile but what does Chapple do?
Croft and Brown return? Although the seconds are top there does seem to be a threadbare look about the side especially as again we are without Livingstone and Parkinson, Mennie could also be a doubt under the concussion rule. Wouldn't be surprised if the wicket will turn more but is Parry capable of bowling a side out.
Hampshire ended a hard four day day nighter with a draw against Yorkshire.
Decent side on paper Vince is in top form and they have a good bowling attack led by Dale Steyn, they also have borrowed Ollie Rayner from Middlesex. Forecast scorchio will be there first two days

Hampshire 302-6
Decent day's cricket although have the feeling that Hampshire's first innings total is already a good one. Good innings by Vince and later on by Roussow, Onions and Bailey have bowled well as did Parry after his initial spell. Lilley bowled poorly and Lamb got three overs. 86 degrees today forecast to be warmer tomorrow 302-6

Mid afternoon it was 89 degrees F at Old Trafford and the game basically had ground to a halt with Hampshire turning down singles with the score well over 400, they were eventually all out for 450 with Roussow unbeaten on 120. In the morning Hampshire had batted with relative ease.
Onions claimed five wickets and bowled excellently in the blast furnace, Bailey bowled well also without luck.
Lancs lost three cheap wickets Hameed again leaving the ball pity really he was batting decently.
143-3 at the end Davies on 79 and Vilas have pulled things around still a long was behind but stillin the game at the momenet.

Hants 66-2 at the close could be a long dull day if they don't take early wickets

Sodded off at 40-0 to see if I could catch the last bit of the golf nearly dropped when I saw 92-8 which eventually was 109 all out. It's a used wicket hence Yorkshire's decision to bat first.
Lyth batted well as per usual against us but the highlight has to be Jordan Clark's hat trick, wasn't the fact he got three in three it was who he got Root, Williamson and Bairstow as it goes that probably up there with the best in terms of victim's quality.
He ended up with a career best.
Lancs looked in no trouble whatsoever obviously that changed also lost Livingstone to what looks like a suspected broken ball in his wrist suspect we are up shit creek in this one

Literally, the only way that hat-trick could be any better is if you replaced Bairstow with Virat Kohli or Steve Smith. Astonishing treble of scalps, and only the second-ever hat-trick for Lancs in a Roses match throughout history.

Two pivotal moments on a very long day play finished after 7, first Bairstow dropped on 22 easy catch to Parkinson went onto make 82, secondly Buttler got out in the next to the last over when he and Bailey had put on 80 plus to leave Lancs in with a chance of an imprpabale victory chasing 323 still need 140 but just the tail remain.
Hameed regained some form looked good until nicking one behind for 33, the openers again batted well but this defeat is likely to send us closer to the trap door

Root 4-5 finishes it off Yorkshire victory and that is the end of first class cricket 4 day stuff for this season it is 24/7/2018
