RE: The Owls v Burton Albion Match Thread SBC - Washington - 08-03-2017

A draw a home always feels like 2 points lost but this one was never going to be easy against a team trying their hardest to stay up and with draws in their last 4 games.

CC did what most of us normally want and stuck with the same team that did so well last weekend and although from the stats we created plenty of chances, just not enough of them were on target tonight.

Still another 30 points to play for and another win at the weekend will get us back onto the next peak of the roller coaster.
Need to accept that autos are now a step too far and Newcastle will probably be champs and do us a favour by beating Fulham next weekend.

I think if anyone drops out of the current top 6 it will be Reading and as fans we have to stop being so negative/pessimistic and take it a game a time. Fine margins and a couple of missed penalties etc have us behind were we think we should be.
However, what really matters is getting the rub of the green and luck when it matters which is hopefully in the PO final at Wembley.

C'mon lads nothing but positive vibes from now until the end of May

Villa away on Saturday you say....battered us in the first half tonight and were unlucky not to take all three points never mind losing.
Brentford away for us, we owe them one after they thrashed us down there last season.

Plenty of points to play for yet, see you in the play off semi finals!

After sleeping on it, here is my honest opinion of the game.

The performance was not as bad as the result would suggest! Negative Nigel came knowing they started the game in possession of a point, which he did not want to lose, but wasn't entirely bothered about winning. Westwood made one world class save, but unfortunately the clearance from the resulting corner landed at the feet of Burtons only decent player, who smashed an unstoppable half volley in of the post.

You knew from the start that they were just going to defend, as Marvin Sordell (a centre forward) only ran past the halfway line on a handful of occasions!

Our problem was that we played the ball about too much in front of two banks of 5, in the last 20 minutes we started to put the ball in behind the defenders. This caused them to face their own goal and resulted in all the pressure and resulting corners. Unfortunately we were not able to score the winning goal.

Westwood = 8, nothing to do apart from one truly amazing save. Had no chance with the goal.

Hunt = 6, neither poor or great, some of the final balls in were poor, but generally defended well.

Sasso = 7, Calm and collected on the ball and sound defensively, no idea why some people criticize him, other than the gaol at Weeds granted.

Loovens = 7, great defensively, but too slow to get the ball to someone who can do some damage with it.

Fox = 8, Great in defense and very good coming forward, put in some great crosses last night and I am still oblivious to why he was subbed! My MOM!

Wallace = 6, great goal (feck knows what the keeper was doing though), but his right foot is only for standing on.

Jones = 6, He is not the player I was excited about when we signed him, wandering when he is going to step up to the plate, saying that he did not really do anything wrong.

Bannan = 8, Always wanting the ball and played some great long passes, just missing that killer pass on the night.

Fessi = 7, got clobbered early in the game and from that point never really produced what we know he can, was unfortunate with an overhead kick in the last minutes though.

Winnall = 7, Cant fault the lad on his work rate and the space he genuinely creates for Rhodes, would have scored if his shot was not straight at Rhodes early in the game (hit Jordan in the nuts).

Rhodes = 7, Only ever got one clear chance, which he created for himself and the resulting shot was saved by the keepers face.

Reach = 6 Did not really have enough time, made a high number of crosses, unfortunately none were converted.

Fletcher = 5, I was very positive when we signed him, not sure he will be with us too long, failed to connect with a ball headed back across goal by Sasso.

Buckley = 7, looked lively, good to have him back in the fold, One great piece of skill to get passed his marker late in the game, but his cross was just behind the on rushing forwards.

Villa will be better for us as they will be going all out for a win!

Could be worse, we could be GOONERS! Big Grin

Villa will be the first team in ages to beat us by 3 goals i watched them against Rotherham and although they arnt that good in any particular position Thumb up they played to the ref with there premiership bullying and we all know bruce will be moaning to the ref before the game as well Doh we wont get a bean from the ref on saturday at Premiership villa park and our sloppy defending will cost us Thumb down

As for Sasso he reminds me of a pissed up bobby moore Whistle he does like to bring the ball forward which is a good trate and 70% of the time is to his advantage Thumb up however the other 30% is the pissed up Bobby moore and he and we get caught out bigtime Doh still he is trying and if he can keep improving he might become the finished article one day with lees Thumb up because loovens has had his time !

Tuesday night was what I thought it might be. Attack vs Defence for most of the game. What we wouldn't have given for one of those goals we scored last Saturday on Tuesday night instead. It was virtually like playing against 2 banks of 5 for long periods but despite lots of good possession and working plenty of good positions we just couldn't create that one clear chance. Very frustrating.
