RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (10 August) - betterthanbaird - 15-08-2017 (15-08-2017, 15:53)Alouion Wrote: Stekelenberg, Coleman, Baines, Jagielka, Bolasie, Williams, Lennon, Schneiderlin, Barkley and, er, Lukaku. He wasn't player of the season last season, it was the one before, so they didn't have quite a few of those players. We've seen with Lescott how much worse an ageing player can get in one year. If we think the kids will actually be good enough to start for us in the premier league one day and this lets them go out on loan then I'm not against it, provided that Barry is mainly here to thicken out the squad and he won't be starting too regularly. I know the most exciting signings don't work out a lot of the time but it would be nice for the club to announce the signing of someone young and talented we can get excited about. I think our squad is thin but quite decent and a couple of good signings could still make this an excellent window. RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (10 August) - Beefy 1965 - 15-08-2017 1st of the 5 done ? Barry completes move to WBA https://www.wba.co.uk/news/2017/august/albion-sign-gareth-barry/ One year deal with one year option in our favour I think Barry turned down a new two year contract with Everton to join us Now that speaks volumes to me ![]() RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (10 August) - drewks - 15-08-2017 (15-08-2017, 21:24)Beefy 1965 Wrote: 1st of the 5 done ? I think this says a lot: "There was a big void when we lost ‘Fletch’ and Gareth will fill that void,” said Pulis. “He’s a fantastic player and I think his attitude towards playing is really gauged by the fact that Everton had offered him a two-year contract to stay there." ![]() ![]() RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (10 August) - BaggieSteve - 15-08-2017 Despite his age, I think this is a good signing for us provided we also secure a younger, more dynamic midfielder who will bring some much needed urgency and attacking intent RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (10 August) - Sir Megson - 15-08-2017 Barry is fantastic signing for the reported £1m fee (despite his age catching up with him) and if we see more players of his quality follow shortly and sign for us in the coming days before the window closes, we're all in for a very good season ahead. Welcome to the Albion, Gareth! RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (10 August) - Beefy 1965 - 15-08-2017 (14-08-2017, 21:19)Beefy 1965 Wrote: Tomorrow ..Barry Well guess who predicted this one Yesterday, No lets not heap the praise on me, Next in before the weekend a signing that will cost the Club a fair bit of money.. Just a rumour ![]() If I get this wrong I still have a 50% record ![]() Everton agree fee with Swansea for Sigurdsson .....(45 Million) Maybe Chadli going ? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/08/15/west-brom-stick-25m-nacer-chadli-price-tag-swansea-target-deal/ RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (10 August) - WBA-Josh - 16-08-2017 I wasn't particularly happy when Barry was first linked but I can see the sense in signing him. I'm assuming that Yacob and Barry will be the defensive midfielders for our 4-1-4-1 formation with one or the other starting depending on what is needed on the day from our holding midfielder. That means that we still need another central midfielder to go with Livermore, Morrison and Field, preferably a playmaker type centre midfielder. RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (10 August) - wba1978 - 16-08-2017 Jota from Brentford being linked.... well, sort of; Maybe we could gate crash West Ham this time! Potential second striker/#10 role? 12 goals 5 assists from 21 outings seems pretty decent. ![]() http://c.newsnow.co.uk/A/898110649?-11200:789:0 RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (10 August) - Worldclassalbion - 16-08-2017 (16-08-2017, 01:54)WBA-Josh Wrote: I wasn't particularly happy when Barry was first linked but I can see the sense in signing him. Josh I think Brunty will be played there and Hopefully Harper will come in before Sam Field. I like Field but he doesn't seem to have any urgency or speed. Brunt and Morrison can create as can the superb Jonny Evans. Now we have the added creativity of Barry. I too wasn't excited when we were linked with him but as others have said I can see the benefits of having him on board and I'm looking forward to seeing him play for us. Don't get me wrong though buddy I would love us to sign another Maresca, Texieria or Koumas type player and the much needed left back. RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (10 August) - 4evaabaggie - 16-08-2017 Barry .... £800,000 for a year should be a good deal. Doesn't disperse my disappointment that we are constantly signing players towards the end of their careers, (over 30's) some way over or players with horrendous injury records ... yes, generally we have a good record of keeping them injury free but that risk is there. Why oh why can't we build a squad, a competitive squad of 20 - 25 year old that can push for glory for years and be built and developed instead of fire fighting every year, plugging this hole and that hole with a cheap stop gap. I know I'm just a dreamer but I'm not the only one ...... I hope one day you'll join up and the Albion will live as one. |
