Fits the bill in terms of age (36) and Championship experience (Bristol City) and would be a better choice than Michael Appleton. I’d be concerned whether he’s ready for the step-up a level though.

why a step up - we'll be in the same league - but would BC let him go. It'll need lots of money.

So will Conty, and no doubt many others - so who to chose eh?
If Big Dave does well until the end of the season then give him a go - or at least keep him on the staff. Thumb up

BBB, what I mean by step-up is Lee Johnson is at a club where a mid-table finish is a good season. Anything more is a bonus. If he came to WBA he would be walking into a club where a mid-table finish next season will be a bad season. He would be coming into a club where the play-offs at the very least will be expected.

My question marks over him would be has he got the ability and know how to not only rebuild a playing staff but to also achieve promotion within two seasons. Time would tell on that but I think those question marks over him are fair.

Can't quite understand....RR was great for Argyle (so I thought) and they let him go to Exeter. Now Exeter have let him go to FGR. What went wrong, Silver?

Don't think anything went wrong except the FGR owner likes to throw his money around and must have signed around 9 or 10 players in the last January transfer window. (A desperate attempt to avoid relegation which seems to be working)Rueben is still a very good player and is developing a good understanding with Christian Doidge who scored the winner from a Reed pass last Saturday. I think Reed also scored for Exeter last season when Cheltenham lost narrowly at home in a seven goal thriller.

I understood that Josh, wasn't meant as a put down. Though with a small budget and small team has been in the play-offs, so with more backing who knows. Though as you say his inexperience to rebuild etc is spot on and is crutial (can't spell it)

RE: Next Manager - Beefy 1965 - 23-04-2018

In an ever fluctuating market, there is a new bookmakers’ favourite for the West Brom job.

With Sky Bet, the new number one contender for the gig is Brentford boss Dean Smith - who still harbours ambitions to lead the Bees to the Premier League this season.

Smith, from West Bromwich, left nearby Walsall for Griffin Park in 2015 after four years at the Bescott Stadium, a spell in which he turned the Saddlers into League One promotion contenders.

Though the 47-year-old didn’t enjoy the most comfortable of starts to life in the Championship, Smith appears have left his mark on the Londoners and after a run of seven games unbeaten they sit one point outside of the play-off places with two matches to play.

With Sky Bet, Smith’s odds have shortened dramatically in the last few days - he has come in from 6/1 to 5/2 favourite.

New name in the frame according to Birmingham Mail....... Martin Jol. Loved him as a player at the Albion and liked him as a manager at Spurs where he was sacked very harshly imo.

I like this link

That’s an interesting name. Used to have a great reputation but has now been out of work for a few years. When we all discussed Big Phil Scolari, the idea of an experienced man for a couple of seasons who can set the club up for the future ready for Big Dave to take the project forward sounded ok. He is 62 so fits the bill of vastly experienced guy.

I’m not overly enthused by the link though. I think I’d rather have him as DoF instead of Head Coach.

Hardly the most surprising news this week but Coleman has just been sacked by Sunderland.

Anyone still think he could do a job for us. ? Whistle
Should not have given up the Welsh job!!

Sunderland FC also sold to the owner of Eastleigh FC in the National League.

He'll probably use the Mackems as a feeder Club. Big Grin Big Grin

That should cheer the Geordies up after we spoiled their party yesterday.
