Benik Afobe on loan lol!!

He's an Albion fan, not Wolves.  The username's an old joke from way back.

Yep "Still on the beach from last seasons 40 point mark" That's far to thoughtful for a Wo1ve5 fan, I mean 10 words all together, that make sense. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

It surprises me that after a lifetime of playing and watching football my interest seems to be declining. The regrettable position of The Albion in the league does not stir the chest-beating anguish of days of yore. The success of other teams, likewise, induces ennui rather than envy. How to explain this? On reflection, I think it’s my somewhat rigid expectation of what sport and in particular football should be about. I was always encouraged to believe that sport, of itself, was balanced, fair and unaffected by outside influences and pursuit of those values was worthy of my effort as a life lesson. A bit “Ripping Yarns” I know but I would ask you…what is the point of any sport if it matches obvious inequality due to unequal investment? We need to turn around and take a different path. Away from the billionaires; Media moguls; endless journalistic dissection of performance; focus on results above all and back to respect for football as a great sport with ups and downs, comedic moments, physical beauty and deep roots in the common people playing it. Relegation is just a line on a list. When City win the title I have a sneaky feeling some of them will be thinking “is that all there is to it?” their joy will be tempered by the money it has taken. I wish The Albion success, but not at any price.

There's plenty more folk who have the same feelings about the game and it's current state, but could not have written out those feelings as eloquently as you have.

Excellent post!

I echo lots of the sentiments above, and I have heard myself saying it's not like it used to be and that is more true season after season, but I have to say although I sometimes think it's not the same, my interest in the Baggies remains as strong as it ever was, no matter who plays, who manages us or what league we're in, I still get that buzz on the day of the game, can't wait for kick off, don't want to miss a kick and still get that tingle when we score or win or that sick feeling when we concede or lose. Checking here everyday, reading anything Albion and listening to phone ins are part of my everyday routine.

I agree the game's gone mad and it's going to get worse but my love for it will always be there, I think it's in my blood and I'll always be the same, I'm still as interested and still care as much as when I went home and away when I was younger, streaming of games these days is another reason I'd hate us to go down, while we're in the Prem you can watch every ball we kick.

Also another very good post.

The part I've bolded is a bit of a pet hate though, if I'm honest.

So much was made of the dwindling numbers under Pulis and as someone who goes regularly home and away as much as possible (more so for the past 5-6 years since getting a job where the weekends are always free) I haven't seen the attendances increase massively since Pulis left; and that has partly got to be down to the fact that it's easier and cheaper just to watch a stream.

Totally understand there's very valid reasons for doing this, living away from the area, financial limitations, personal commitments etc etc. It's just a bit disheartening and is playing a huge part in why football is becoming crap for fans that do go to the games, we're not the people being catered to anymore.

Case in point - Bournemouth away at Huddersfield this weekend. One of the longest journeys in the league this season, moved to a 12 o clock KO on a Sunday to appease the armchair masses on "Super Sunday". Have a look at the coach times for the poor sods who can only afford to use the coach to get to this game link. Every Cherries fan going on those coaches deserves respect of the highest order.

Not a dig at you at all Bomber by the way, just a little grumble about the League and TV companies not giving two shits about the fans that follow, week in, week out.

I find it ironic that our last match to regain top flight status after 16 years out was Palace at Home, 16 years later it is Palace away to maintain our top flight status ....... ouch!

Have faith in our best 11 ......... we can do it

Second 11 due to injuries/ suspensions ........ we can't do it.

Forget Kinver Edge, forget Wenlock Edge ............  massive massive knife edge.

COME ON YOU BAGGIES ........ do it for Cryille without the pressure of yesterday.

Sorry, but after recent results in the league for teams surrounding us I have become resigned to the fact we're going down ...... we can stay up but I just can't see it happening now .... my vote has changed although not in the poll.

RE: Staying up... or going down? - WBA-Josh - 11-02-2018

Huddersfield winning puts us in a worse position now. We need Newcastle and Southampton to struggle today. Tomorrow is big but if we lose then there will still be 11 matches left and 33 matches left to be played.

I'm not going to change my vote until we're mathematically relegated.
