214-5 at close of play, big wicket from Jimmy Anderson at the end of the day to break up a solid partnership from de Bruyn and Bavuma. England can be reasonably pleased with that day's work.

Watched the Mickey mouse cricket last night and I'll put this out here right now. It'll be a cricketing travesty if tom Curran never plays test cricket. He showed a lot of fire and skill whilst being under the pressure of the last over.

His brother has a hell of a lot of potential too

Its possible that in a few years time we could have a few sets of brothers playing for england.

Tom and sam curran
Craig and Jamie overton
Joe and billy root

Yes but that was ye olde Mickey Mouse cricket. Can he do it at test level? Only one way to find out, I suppose.

Tom did alright for england at Mickey mouse level. Seems like doing well at t20 is the way in really. Malan was under consideration for this test due to his t20 knock

Yes. Odd way of selecting, but it seems to work well enough.

36 ball 50 for de Kock. Then out next ball.

314-8

Jennings caught behind, but England in a sound position. 80-1, lead by 177.

Some cautious, attritional stuff to finish the day. 119-1 at close of play, a lead of 216. Would have been nice to see a bit more aggression at the crease, but with the pitch deteriorating and that top-order collapse on Thursday fresh in the mind, it's probably a case of slow and steady wins the race.

Get through two sessions tomorrow, push that lead up to about 450, then get into South Africa the last four sessions of the match.
