RE: WBA vs Aston Villa - Match Thread - wba1978 - 25-01-2016 I think Yacob was the only one who did his job, he frequently made good tackles and interceptions. Anyway.... play was definitely broken up! ![]() RE: WBA vs Aston Villa - Match Thread - talkSAFT - 25-01-2016 (24-01-2016, 18:03)tidy Wrote: I'm looking to see just how 'safe' we actually are. Yeh. We go over the moon when we snatch a draw with a top 6 team, but when you're dropping 2 pts against the worst team in the League (who all the other strugglers are beating) you're heading for danger. RE: WBA vs Aston Villa - Match Thread - Dingle-Dingle - 25-01-2016 Just checked out the League table. We are already in the relegation dogfight. FFS Chelski are above us now. DD ![]() ![]() RE: WBA vs Aston Villa - Match Thread - Borders Baggie - 25-01-2016 What I don't get is how we can turn out poor performances against Southampton & Villa and two mediocre performances in getting past Bristol City in the Cup. Over the Christmas period, the Baggies played acceptably well against Stoke, Newcastle & away at Chelsea then return to the level of performance from earlier in the season. The personnel on the field didn't alter that much from the decent performances to the poor ones. We all know the team can play well when they turn it on so what has gone wrong? I hope they get it sorted soon, I'm going to the Newcastle game!!! RE: WBA vs Aston Villa - Match Thread - tidy - 25-01-2016 This is when the games like the Everton one come back and bite... ![]() RE: WBA vs Aston Villa - Match Thread - 4evaabaggie - 25-01-2016 (25-01-2016, 14:21)Borders Baggie Wrote: What I don't get is how we can turn out poor performances against Southampton & Villa and two mediocre performances in getting past Bristol City in the Cup. how can the same players play to such extremes ...... by my reckoning we have played about ten games since christmas, we have more or less used the same players, the saint and vile games came during a spell of three away games in a week. Yes I hear people say they are professional sportsmen but even they can suffer from fatigue and injury niggles ....... Not an excuse maybe a reason. My positives from the vile game ....... We were shite, really really shite ....... but the villa could not beat us, does not bode well for their chances of surviving. We did not lose We managed to increase the gap over the bottom three ... only a point but with goal difference we are now three wins clear of the zone. We will play better and pick up points. Negatives.... We were shite, really really shite ...... nothing more to say. RE: WBA vs Aston Villa - Match Thread - BaggieMan - 25-01-2016 So, we've played 8 games since Christmas and people are suggesting the team is tired. What a shame for them - are you tired didums? Never mind, here's your £30k pay-cheque. Villa have played 8 games, exactly the same number as us. Those beneath us have played 7. Liverpool, Leicester and Spurs have all played 8 and you don't see them falling apart having played 8 games in four weeks. Tiredness is not an acceptable excuse to produce the sort of crap we witnessed on Saturday. ![]() RE: WBA vs Aston Villa - Match Thread - 4evaabaggie - 25-01-2016 baggieman, if you read my thread I said not an excuse maybe a reason, we have the smallest squad, we travelled away to Chelsea, stayed away for saints, travelled to Bristol then played villa, villa were home in the league, at home in the cup and then a short hop to us ..... less tiring. Professional players should have put in a better performance but a small squad already carrying niggles and knocks will struggle to play well, we also have one of the oldest squads in the league, as a middle aged man I know knocks, cuts bruises and strenuous activity take longer to recover from. Just trying to put a balanced fair argument as to why we were shite ....... Mentioned this before tho - this seems to show another ridiculous side to TP, in that even when the situation is crying out for different players to be given a game - Poco, Gamboa, MacMannaman, Chester - TO GIVE OTHER PLAYERS A REST - he just won't bend. The other clubs mentioned have played as many games but have probably rotated their players sensibly to keep them fresh. Probably no coincidence that every performance of this spell has been worse than the one before RE: WBA vs Aston Villa - Match Thread - Stairs - 26-01-2016 Jesus!!! I have just resurfaced from Cornwall and can post again. We had no wifi, no mobile coverage and our Port Isaac cottage only had freeview. I stayed up to 11:45 on Saturday evening watching Match of the Day to see the 'highlights' Being last on I guessed as 0-0 but as the matches ticked through and the penultimate game was 2-1 I feared/hoped the Albion Villa game might have had a goal in it. It added spice to watching MOTD for once I guess, but if their editing was anything to go by then Albion did not have a single attack in the whole game! Awful. A point is a point I suppose but against the Villa surely we could have gotten 3. A few days to go in the transfer window, a week to rest players (a small squad, tired players - pathetic excuse for men in their prime). We'd better win the Cup Game this weekend! |
