Not sure whether it was some kind of daft trick to show JP we need players desperately but that was a comical starting XI ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: WBA vs Tottenham - Match Thread - DanTheSmethwickMan - 01-02-2015 Sorry but if Irvine would have played Lescott left back and chosen that team today then everybody would have crucified the bloke. But because its pulis half the ground don't say a word, some people need to get off this pulis being a 'God' because so far we've beaten gateshead and blues and took nearly 80 mins to score against a terrible Hull side with no strikers. We should have lost 10 against everton, not much improvement so far RE: WBA vs Tottenham - Match Thread - Tom_Wba - 01-02-2015 Spot on! this is exactly my point that was the worst XI I've seen all season RE: WBA vs Tottenham - Match Thread - tidy - 01-02-2015 I don't pretend to be a premier league manager but would it not be better to play Lescott where he plays best and start Poconoli? You have to ask if we actually need a squad of 25 when only 13 of them are ever going to get picked.... ![]() RE: WBA vs Tottenham - Match Thread - WillieJohnstonsGreenhouse - 01-02-2015 Was going to add this to my post but it took me too long to calm down and do it Why on earth is Lescott being forced to play as a full back and be asked to track wingers ???? He is a proven centre-back with no pace, don't put him against fast wingers like he's 20 years old. That is as far from his comfort zone as Beefy at a whaling convention (with all respect big boy) - ain't rocket science #GetIrvineBack ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Some very strange tactical decisions today and Pulis's response was uncannily like Clarke or Irvine. Are we, as fans, missing something? Just to say I am delighted to have Pulis as a manager to ensure we survive, and if he does that I will happily doff my cap Just had a look at other Albion sites and it's like Irvine never left. Hopefully fans will appreciate what Pulis is trying to do. It's frighteningly not a million miles from Clarke and Irvine's game plan - but I hope with a man who will enforce it and take no crap. Personally, I didn't like what I saw. RE: WBA vs Tottenham - Match Thread - BaggieMan - 01-02-2015 What happened today with team selection, set-up and substitutions mirrored what used to happen at Stoke under 'Moany Clueless' and resulted in the Stoke 'Pulis Out' which eventually was achieved. Many on here, in spite of Pulis' dour record and getting slated by Baggie fans for his methods at Stoke now hail him as the second coming of Christ thinking he can walk on water and then turn that water into beer and lager. It ain't gonna happen fellas ! We're just lucky there are poorer teams in the Prem this year RE: WBA vs Tottenham - Match Thread - Slick_Footwork - 01-02-2015 I can't believe people are comparing Irvine to Pulis. Irvine is a manager with no track record. Made poor decisions week in week out. Most things he did were completely illogical. Dropping Saido, playing all out defence without Yacob, no McAuley... The list goes on... IMO, you can at least make sense of Pulis' decisions. Personally, I'd prefer Lescott at centre half, because that's his position and I don't think Dawson is a Premier player. But Pulis has probably identified that we're not defending set plays particularly well (QPR) and given our lack of threat going forward, thought an extra big guy might increase our potency. We did look like a threat from set plays today. A lot of people seem to really rave about Pocognoli but I was completely unconvinced. I though he made rash tackles, often in our box and wasn't very comfortable on the ball. While he does offer more energy and gets forward better - he's weak in the air - so I can at least look at Pulis' decision and make some logical sense out of it. He's also identified that we move forward at a pedestrian pace, which is something we've needed to address for a couple of years. Of course, you're only going to see an improvement when we get the players in who are capable. Don't get me wrong - it wasn't my personal preference, but I think the guy has a game plan and reasons for his decisions - despite the scoreline, there were at least some decent signs today. RE: WBA vs Tottenham - Match Thread - Squirrel Regis - 01-02-2015 The team selection screams " this squad ain't good enough" To be blaming TP for yesterday is just plain pathetic. Just look at our squad and hand on heart tell me we have assembled a good team ??? Transfer deadline is going to be massive and we need 3-4 new signings hitting the ground running. This is several years of transfer complaisancy and just plain bad signings. Isn't it easy to say put Gamboa in for Wisdom or put Sess in for Brunt and everything will be ok...well it won't ! It's gonna be a hard slog but TP is the man to keep us up. Spurs were better than us but 3-0 flattered them. Irvine couldn't get them to look like a team whereas Pulis probably will...well, what's left of them plus his new additions... ![]() We have about 5 winnable games before we play Man City. This next month will decide where we play next year... ![]() RE: WBA vs Tottenham - Match Thread - SomersetBaggie - 01-02-2015 Did not get to the match, how did McManaman look? Any cause for optimism? Must admit the defensive team selection confused me. Not sure Sess is going to be a Baggie for much longer! A very worried Baggie from Somerset! |
