A lot of anger and frustration building up but I still believe we ARE a better team than last season. I am certainly not a fan of Brunt, Dorrans and Morrison in a midfield but we have brought so many new faces into the club that to be fair the old guard have done a decent job in this transition period.
After Arsenal we have got some very winnable games. If we don't pick up points then yes I will also start to worry.
But not yet ....

Agreed I hope when they're all fully fit more of the new players will get a chance (this is mainly about Varela) but I'm worried Al will play it safe and keep going with the counter attack without pace set up.

We can't learn much from this game though.

Interestingly (and perhaps worryingly), Steve Madeley on Twitter is pointing the finger at the summer recruitment: "Irvine isn't a fool. He knows his side need an attacking spark. If he thought Blanco, Samaras, Ideye etc could provide it, they'd play." He's suggesting that the summer signings (with the exception of Lescott and Gardner, and Varela who's been injured) just haven't been doing enough in training and in the cup games to warrant inclusion.

If that's the case, then hello relegation battle.

This is why Dingle Downing and Kiely shouldn't be at the club, its time to let the new boss thing in his own people to freshen things up everything at the Albion has been stale for far to long it needs a fresh approach so the usual suspects aren't nailed on to start week in week out

RE: Chelsea vs WBA - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 23-11-2014

Not necessarily absolving Downing and Kiely from blame in team performances - I don't see them day in day out to judge what they actually do, and I don't think anyone else on here does either - but if we've had another transfer window of poor signings, that's certainly not down to Downing and Kiely.

What really worries me is that if the problem is with the players at our disposal, then sacking Irvine would do us no good; we'd be condemning another Mel-a-like to come in and try to get blood from a stone. And are we prepared to actually spend in January to put some pace on the wings and creativity in the centre if the options we've got don't work out?

One of my old boss's favourite sayings was "We're not at home to Mrs F**k-Up". Unfortunately, over these last two years it feels like Albion have appointed Mrs F**k-Up as the tea lady and every single one of her sons to the football department. I hope it can be put right before we pay the price.

The headlines will say Chelsea 2 Baggies 0, but that doesn't tell the story of the debacle that was today.

Two nil down and down to 10 men after 30 minutes then Chelsea just f*ck*d about with us for an hour, I don't mind being outplayed or outclassed but I can't tolerate us being so bad that any opposition can take the pi55 out of us. Yes, Chelsea, love them or hate them have a cracking side and some great players but they won't get an easier match all season even if they draw a Sunday league side in the cup, they certainly won't come up against anyone who are so devoid of ideas, desire or a willingness to at least try and compete.

But that is what my team did today, it was like an exhibition match, a training session, men against boys call it what you like but we have been made to look a laughing stock today.

I can see the interview by AI now, their 1st goal was a yard offside, Yacob played the ball and the sending off was the turning point of the game, it's hard enough with 11 to play Chelsea, we had to change our game plan from then on because we were a player short.

Bollocks to any of that, their 1st was maybe centimetres offside but certainly too close for the lino to call at real speed. Secondly and remember this is only my opinion, Yacob jumped in to a tackle with both feet, reckless, feckless and downright stupid, as soon as he did it I knew it would be red and again in my opinion the right and easy decision for the ref to make. Let's see if we appeal and it's rescinded if we were so hard done by!. Thirdly, it was to our benefit that we went down to 10 because that's when Chelsea really relaxed and took the pi55 out of us for the next 60 minutes, god knows how many they could have scored if they hadn't gone into training mode. Finally it didn't change our game plan because we never had one in the first place.

I'm sick of reading that we didn't get a fair crack from the officials - offside - never a red card - big clubs get all the decisions, we and probably 12-15 other clubs have to run with the decisions against the top sides we've always known it and it will never change, but if you don't show up to a game, like us today, you don't deserve anything except a humiliation like I've seen today.

Irvines interview tonight should be that I f*ck*d up the selection today, I forgot to have a game plan, I was scared sh*tl*ss by Chelsea, Albion fans deserve better than this and I'm going away to have a think about my future at the club  Angry  Angry

You know what Bomber ,......................

Couldn't have pu it better myself Thumb up

Team unity ha !

Irvine is like a child, i didn't sign em so i wont play em .

No pace no creativity, Yes it was Chelski and we would not have won today no matter who we played.

But at least have some balls and have a go now and again,

No corners, one back pass of a shot is all we had to offer in 90 Minutes of Football ............ PATHETIC !!!

If Irvine sets his team up at Home to Arsenal like he has been doing then i will not go at home and watch them again this season until this fool is removed.

Other teams have a go at big teams the only time i have seen this was Man Utd at home (First Half) guess what we were winning !

And anybody defending Yacob' s tackle need to read the rules yes he got the ball , but if Two feet leave the ground of play during a tackle it will be deemed dangerous and a straight RED !!!

By the way well played Ben (thank god)

We were lucky to get nil, not a good performance, but 2-0 isn't a bad result.
The BBC were outdoing their obsequious selves fawning over Chelsea. Never seen brown-nosing like it.

RE: Chelsea vs WBA - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 23-11-2014

It's not a terrible result in the circumstances - frankly, it could have been worse - but given what's starting to emerge about our new signings, I really do fear that it's one more bad chapter in a story which will get worse. If the best combination of attackers we can possibly field to provide service to Berahino is Brunt-Sessegnon-Dorrans, then we're worse off than last season, because Dorrans will never provide even a fraction of the threat from the right flank that Amalfitano did (even allowing for the fact that Amalfitano only turned it on when it suited him!).

I didn't watch MOTD to be honest, but on the occasions I do, I record it and fast-forward through the claptrap "analysis". I actually find Lineker quite entertaining on Twitter - he's clearly an intelligent bloke with a good sense of humour - but on the telly, it's an old boys club sucking up to the elite all the way.

Oh well. Bring on that long-overdue home win against Arsenal, eh?

RE: Chelsea vs WBA - Match Thread - Slick_Footwork - 23-11-2014

While I can't see what goes on behind close doors in training or don't follow Ukranian football to know a lot about 2 of our main signings (Blanco and Ideye) from what I can see, the bulk of the blame has to go with Irvine.

He continues to play Dorrans, who hasn't looked like a consistent Premier player for several years. While I loved the guy the season we came up, he really doesn't bring anything to the table this season and I'm godsmacked he's kept his place.

I was chuffed at the prospect of a Lescott and McAuley partnership when Jolean arrived. For me, McAuley has been a great performer over the last couple of years and was let down by Jonas losing form. Instead though, Irvine persists with Dawson, who is slow and mistimes almost every leap and tackle.

It doesn't seem to matter how Brunt plays, he keeps his place...

He has completely ruined Mulumbu and Yacob, who were pretty much our core when we really did look like a proper Premiership side.

Thinking back to early Steve Clarke in 12-13, when we were giving everyone a game. Both Dorrans and Brunt were nothing more than squad players. The fact they seem to be automatic selections now show that something has gone badly wrong.

Blanco was half decent in the Hull game and looked worthy of a chance. He had a bad game against Bournemouth, but who didn't? He wasn't helped by the fact that Irvine paired him with 3 defensive midfielders who were 30 yards behind him...

I can't understand how Baird can be selected in front of Gamboa. Gamboa has looked reasonable in the chances he's had and has been unfortunate to be competing with Wisdom, who has looked good for the best part. But if he's still behind Baird in the pecking order, I'm worried the guy is never going to feature.

While I don't know what goes on behind closed doors, on paper we certainly have the tools at our disposal. But we're not going to improve unless the likes of Samaras and Blanco get a chance in their proper positions.

As for Saido and Ideye not being able to play together - I'd be happy for Saido to play on the left side for the good of the team. Sure, it's probably not his best position, but it's a position that he played in particularly well last season when he first burst onto the scene. Had it not been for his contract dispute, he would've kept his place there IMO.

why oh why are we always cheated when we play at Chelski ....... I know we are guests in the Barclays greed league exculsive and limited gentleman's club of six ......... but the non penalty of last year, the offside goal of this year. Have the match officials got bets on Chelski winning the league before Christmas. I know that we can not compete with the money clubs but surely getting fair decisions and a level playing field is better for the whole league and the whole of English football. I am becoming more and more disillusioned with football. I am normally chomping at the bit to get to a game and plan what matches I can get to but this year so far I have bearly looked at the fixture list and as of yet have no plans to go to any game ........... sad state of affairs, I am still unbearable when Albion lose and like a kid at Christmas when we win but I need something to change to rekindle the spark of being there. We are in danger of falling into the category of a club happy with mid table boredom, how I yearn for the excitement of promotion, relegation or even a cup run.
Rant over ............. Albion til I die
