RE: CHEXIT - Devongone - 23-04-2018 Jack took on an almost impossible task, created by Gary Caldwell who was clearly unable to manage the constraints put on him by a mismanaged club and create a team despite the chaos behind the scenes. Jack was/is likeable and intelligent, and were any green shoots appearing, or any vague sense of direction evident I'd have been opposed to sacking him, but with Smith who we paid a fee for marooned on the bench, Whitmore disappeared from selection and none of Jack's ten signings showing anything special, it would take a brave man to deny the evidence of his eyes and back Jack for another season. It is a shame ....... and he was set up to fail. At this point I'll throw in a managerial suggestion (and I'd like to keep Llera and Evatt too who are both good men IMO) - Ian Culverhouse. He is going to leave King's Lynn who he has transformed on the pitch, but he seems to be leaving because of off-the-field chaos. He knows both league at good levels and non-league. He was cerebral as a player. He's old enough to remain calm, he doesn't mind where in the country he goes for the right job, and I think he'd be his own man. Much as I like Evo and Llera I don't think they know the non-league scene and to me that knowledge is going to be essential. Going part-time would be an admission we are never coming back up. If we are never coming back up then the Proact has to go - it IS a league ground and a good one. Most of our rivals will be full-time and many of them have a better playing staff Now than us. My opinion is that we should not be talking about coming back up taking several seasons. The only reason that it would take so long is chaos behind the scenes. If we remain chaotic, then we are being deliberately handicapped by a man who is losing money in order to handicap us! Sacking the backroom makes sense to me, but if Mr Carson is the man he pretends to be he needs to make it clear that unless the engine room is working we're going nowhere and that's been the case for three years. We NEED to aim to come straight back. As Dancing has pointed out that will mean a lot of work finding ways to shed the dead wood that has been appearing for us in lieu of a team. A lot of players who are contracted to stay need to be actively transfer-listed. Those whose contracts will be up need to be waved goodbye ASAP. If Dennis remains contracted then he needs to be sold. He scored his goals and we are in non-league football. I just think if we say 4-6 years now then that means the twelfth of never. What about Karl Marginson who managed FC United? I reckon he could do a good job. RE: CHEXIT - Devongone - 23-04-2018 Marginson, maybe Matt, not a daft idea at all, the non-league voice doesn't have to be manager, he could be assistant so long as he's heard and respected. I like Marcus Law at Kettering - probably because he was a goalie ....... Sheridan is apparently hot favourite. Would he even want us? He doesn't know non-league, so he'd clearly try and recruit a League Two team. I suppose if they were good enough they'd have a chance, but the past seems to suggest teams with non-league experience are far more successful. One happy note. I've been reading every report of Matlock's games and every time Ricky German gets four or five mentions, which is a lot. They aren't always positive, but he's obviously getting involved and putting himself around and causing the opposition problems. And Matlock have gone from the relegation zone to 10th place. Surely we're thinking of keeping him next season. Culverhouse has caused an absolute storm at The Linnets, by not only announcing his future resignation but also by criticising the club. I must admit it isn't the ideal way to advertise yourself to club owners out there. RE: CHEXIT - bluepooch - 23-04-2018 I don't understand this 'non league is much tougher and more difficult to get out of ' business other than there are only two for promotion. The National League by logic is slightly less in quality than League Two ,just like League Two is slightly less quality than League One.It doesn't take a special non league knowledge to be successful in my opinion. It just takes a team with more quality and organisation than the rest ,there is no magic formula. As for Evo and Llera we may as well give them the gig and see how they get on for the last 3 games, its no extra cost to the club and the current bookies list with the usual suspects is uninspiring to say the least.Plus I have no faith at all in AC to employ the right man. It was interesting to hear Jack mention the 'proposed plans' in his statement ,new consortium closer than we think perhaps ? Oh dear Blue. The National League is the toughest league to get out of. You need to know non-league, non-league players and have a good budget and I mean a good budget. On average it costs a club about £1.5-£2 million to get out of the National League and our budget next season is going to be less than a million. There are a few teams in the National League who play attractive football but most will play direct football and that means long balls over the top etc. These are the odds for a new manager. 2/1 John Sheridan 6/1 Russell Slade 6/1 Ian Evatt 8/1 Ronnie Moore 8/1 Neil Redfern 10/1 Graham Alexander 12/1 Shaun Derry 12/1 Lee Clarke 12/1 Stuart McCall 12/1 Miguel Llera 14/1 Grant McCann 14/1 Richard Money 20/1 Luke Gerrard 20/1 Craig Harrison 20/1 Michael Brown 20/1 Kevin Wilkin 20/1 Dean Saunders 20/1 Chris Lucketti 20/1 Paul Cox 25/1 Mark Bower 25/1 Nicky Law 25/1 Gary Mills RE: CHEXIT - Dancingwilldoit - 23-04-2018 Sheridan? Pleeease no no no no no. That really would wake me up from my slumbers. I would be more than happy to give Evatt and Llera the gig. I mentioned them in an earlier post but to work with Jack. Evatt should be able to sort the crap out as he knows the personalities and the shirkers plus Llera has done wonders with the youth team. Much better than all the usual dross from the bookies IMO. This is the most important appointment in our history, what's the chances of AC getting it right this time? RE: CHEXIT - spireitematt - 23-04-2018 (23-04-2018, 20:37)Dancingwilldoit Wrote: Sheridan? Looks like AC and Allen won't be there. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/6123627/chesterfield-reg-brealey-jack-lester-paul-hart-football-league/ RE: CHEXIT - Dancingwilldoit - 23-04-2018 Dave Allen will still be there Matt you can guarantee it. Any deal like this will leave him holding the ground and all the aces. It also seems the Sun doesn't know that Paul Hart was also one of our previous managers. RE: CHEXIT - bluepooch - 23-04-2018 This Alan Nixon guy is the one who broke the news about Jack leaving so a pretty reliable source . RE: CHEXIT - St Charles Owl - 23-04-2018 Nixon has correctly tweeted about a number of things concerning us and seems to have decent contacts, so I would give this some credence!! Allen will do a deal, but he will exact a price for it, as Mandaric saw when he saved us at the 11th hour!! Those future payments to him were eventually removed and paid up by Chansiri when he bought us off MM I believe, but they were considerable payments!! I would imagine he will take a recuded amount but like a player sale he will stick on future payments based on performance. Of course going from Allen to Brearly is going from one Sheffield thing to another!! Still, even I would admit Brearly is probably a better option than Allen, but not by a huge amount!! Brearly is a nicer person by all accounts, but I'm not sure he is actually that good!! |
