RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - BaggieMan - 26-12-2017 We’ve stopped knowing how to score goals that’s for sure! None of our strikers have a clue. RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - talkSAFT - 26-12-2017 If Pulis had let us play - and our set-pieces were as good as under him - we'd be top of the League now. RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - BaggieSteve - 26-12-2017 We all know it a given we desperately need strikers and today just proved it. With one half decent striker we'd clearly have won. Trouble is that, in January, I don't think there's anyone on the market better than what we have, as hard as that is to believe so you end up paying a ridiculous amount for an average player RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - WBA-Josh - 26-12-2017 Reminiscent of Steve Clarke's reign after Peter Odemwingie decided to be a mercenary shit. We defended solidly enough and good in possession when passing the ball around but lacking a cutting edge up front and genuine pace to add an extra dimension to our attack. It's a good point but we really need to be winning these type of matches against an awful Everton team. RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - 4evaabaggie - 26-12-2017 Terrible result ....... we are getting cut adrift. The performance was better but results count. 17 shots only three on target. When we play really well we get a draw, Everton played below par and got a draw When we play below par we lose ........ the longer this goes on the harder it we be to escape, not saying we can't, we obviously have the players to play but not the confidence, it will be hard to attract players and you don't normally sign goalscorers in january. RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - Slick_Footwork - 26-12-2017 Honestly think we're doomed now. I can't see us having an easier game all season than that. Player for player, on paper, we're alright. But on the pitch, we're a completely unbalanced side. It's very worrying that the side selected looked close to our best XI, but despite being at home against what I believe is a real poor Everton side, we don't have the quality to create from open play. We huffed and puffed and should've scored, but the lack of quality stands out like a sore thumb. There's no play between the lines, nobody finding the pockets of space to thread balls through the strikers. On the rare occasions that the forwards do get the ball, they aren't good enough. There's no plan B whatsoever. We won several corners, put dozens of crosses in, but simply don't have anyone who gets in amongst it. Why not throw big Gaz McAuley up front for the last 15 minutes and give us a chance? Phillips for McLean is just like for like, another player dumping balls into the box that our statues up front will never get on the end of. Easy to say with hindsight but the summer transfers were terrible. Rodriguez looks a shadow of his former self, which perhaps isn't surprising given his injury record. Krychowiak looks like a completely different player to what I remember at Sevilla, probably because he had better players around him there. As for Burke, what a huge waste of money at £15m. Can't even make the bench when we have dross like McClean and Robson Kanu there. It's clear to see most have never been in a relegation dogfight either. They don't have a second gear. Took Pardew way too long to finally grasp the best team, but having seen the best team play together, not sure even Harry Houdini could get us out of this mess. RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - Baggiebob(BBB) - 26-12-2017 "Took Pardew way too long to finally grasp the best team, but having seen the best team play together, not sure even Harry Houdini could get us out of this mess" said Slick footwork Agreed, and I did say "what" when they appointed Pardew, as I can't see at present (0-6 wins, and 2 goals scored) what he can give to the team - games will tell - though I did go for Allydice ( 6 games no loses) to the end of the season. Has the Pulis mentality been one they can't get out of? We are adrift, maybe a good forward signing, giving them money, will solve it, cos i can seen Wolves replacing us, and that will be something other than Villa we will not want to see. So lad, lassies, expect this season to be a nail biter. RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - 4evaabaggie - 26-12-2017 Own up, come on own up ......... who ever it is needs to own up. Who is the person that has walked under 30 ladders, kicked 30 black cats and smashed 30 mirrors ...... why else has lady luck deserted us ......... We need 8 wins and a draw just to reach the usual 40 point safety mark ....... this year I don't think that will be enough. To make it worse ......... we have a tricky tie on new years eve against Arsenal before travelling to West Ham on Tuesday for a relegation six pointer:- Now let's look at West Ham's tricky new year .......... no game for a week until they play us at home ..... a game we could have won now looks like another defeat and a widening gulf to safety ....... the tide of brown stuff is rising and we need to start swimming soon before we sink ....... hope is fading.
