We need to see the reaction at Swansea and Toon before we string him up. Totally agree, Tidy, we need to see a reaction now in the Swansea and Newcastle games. For me, it's four points minimum or TP will be in trouble. Forget McClean's red mists and crap referees, if we give opponents 68% possession we are asking for trouble. For Tony Pulis, I believe these are now critical games, because JP isn't going to tolerate these results or the brand of football after backing TP so well in last summer's transfer window. Merry Christmas. RE: Why some fans hate Tony Pulis - Tibby Baggie - 24-12-2015 If anyone thinks JP would sack a manager for what brand of football he brings, that's very naïve to be honest. Results wise he's doing better than Hodgson did and he got the England job lol. Any doubters can check on transfermarkt for the details. As much as I'd love to see Albion tearing teams apart on a weekly basis (or maybe just for Christmas!) I haven't forgotten the managerial merry go round that got us into our current position in the first place. Anyroad. Merry Christmas everyone and a happy new year. Boing boing! RE: Why some fans hate Tony Pulis - May68 - 24-12-2015 Tibby do you have a proper link for that Hodgson claim? So far this season we are averaging 1.176 points per game, which if we carry on at the same rate will see us finish on 44/45 points. That's decent but I'd be surprised if it's significantly better than Hodgson. In any case, the reason I don't really like Pulis (hate is too strong a word) is simply because we are not fun to watch. Our tactics suck the life out of every game we play in, which is why other team's fans hate to play us, why all the Albion fans I speak to are becoming apathetic, and it's probably one of the reasons why attendances are apparently dropping. Football is ultimately an entertainment business. If every team played like Albion then I doubt itl would be the most popular game in the world. Pulis - 1.41 Points per match Hodgson 1.35 Points per match Also note that I only said he was doing better, not significantly better. Throughout my time of posting on here I've never been an advocate of our current tactics and have exactly the same sentiments as you and others as to our entertainment value. However, what I'm trying to put forward when I post is that we aren't just a managerial change away from playing ole ole football either. It's very easy to place the blame with one person but the truth is that the squad we have simply isn't a strong as some would like to think it is; and I'd much prefer we were cautious and survive at all costs this season simply to get the big TV money and completely revamp the squad in the close season. We've been playing catch up with other teams in regards to player recruitment ever since Ashworth left for the FA role and I'm hoping that next season will be the time that we bring the players in to add flair and excitement to our football. Also there's still plenty of games left to be played this season and the lads might well be let loose once we've hit a certain threshold of points that deems us to be safe enough to play more attack minded football. This season so far has really been a curate's egg if we're all honest. Neither good nor bad... but at least we aren't Villa and up the cadbury creek and lacking any propulsion. ![]() COYB! RE: Why some fans hate Tony Pulis - May68 - 24-12-2015 Thanks for those links Tibby - that's an interesting stat, although Pulis' average is being bumped up by his honeymoon period last season. As I said before, we are only averaging under 1.2 ppm this season, and if we lose to Swansea on Boxing Day we will only be 2 or 3 points above the relegation zone, so I would say results at the moment are just about good enough but nothing more. RE: Why some fans hate Tony Pulis - aries22 - 25-12-2015 I would ask the question, why isn't the squad stronger than it is? Are we sure we can't play better football with the players we've got? Why do we give the opposition 65+% possession even when we're the home team? We're averaging exactly a goal a game - why? IMO The strike force is Shit*. Greedo has had his head turned and Doron ron is lacking confidence. Lambert is not Prem quality........... And who else is there.......?? Anchovy is a waste of wages. (Not even on a Pizza). Perhaps WBA has another young rising STAR from the academy who will save our season before being lured to the bright lights never to be seen again... DD (Just IMHO) ![]() ![]() RE: Why some fans hate Tony Pulis - BaggieMan - 25-12-2015 Reckon you're dead right Dingle-Dingle.but can you really blame Greedo for wanting to move on ? He's playing in a poor squad that plays crap football under a crap footballing anti-Christ of a Head Coach and it ain't gonna get better and Greedo knows it. A silk purse in a pigs ear with Pulis being the pig ! Although a BRE season ticket holder for many years, I have started deliberately missing games coz I conna be arsed to journey down to the Hawthorns and watch the 30% possession shite that we dish up. If Pulis is still there I doubt if I for one, will renew next season. I can go to any coach station to watch the parking of a bus. RE: Why some fans hate Tony Pulis - RainbowTurnedEastStand - 25-12-2015 When Anichebe`s at it he`s actually a decent footballer but the problem with him is that half the time he doesn't look botherd, Still think the club got rid of Ideye to quickly and that Dorrans and Mulumbu had at least another season in them. RE: Why some fans hate Tony Pulis - bomberbrown1968 - 25-12-2015 My biggest gripe is the oldest one in the book. Chester McManaman Gnabry Anichebe Pocognolli Gamboa What is their point in the squad, I think the tea lady stands as much chance of getting a game as a few of these, it doesn't matter how many injuries or suspensions we seem to get they appear to be destined to get no closer to the pitch than warming the subs bench.. Genuinely feel for Chester, probably felt like a good move to him when he came, McManaman the same to a lesser extent, Gnabry a complete waste of a loan. Poc and Gamboa we probably will never see them don the shirt again. Have to admit to being a fan of Anichebe, may look lazy but can also be unplayable with the right ball into his feet. He must be at his fitness peak at the moment, barely played for the last 6 months, and yes I know he'd probably pull something ten minutes into a game. It won't happen but I'd start with him upfront tomorrow |
