RE: WBA vs Chelsea - Match Thread - wba_1996 - 23-08-2015 I'm actually more happy after today than after the Watford game, atleast we actually attempted to win a game of football. With McManaman and to a lesser extent McClean and Gnabry we have some out balls and it shows that there may actually be a direction that the squad is going. Personally, I think we need to make sure we don't get stranded at the bottom over the first couple of months of the season as it is going to take time for this team to take shape. Hopefully with a decent end to the window we will actually have the building blocks in place that Pulis wants. RE: WBA vs Chelsea - Match Thread - 4evaabaggie - 23-08-2015 Points total is about what I expected at this stage with our fixtures, I am expecting more next week especially as do rondon don gets more training and game time under his belt, can see us ripping sunderlands defence a new one. Just read that Costa may have head butted Jacob five mins before Terry's red card and should have seen red too. Had the penalty gone in, would have thought an out and out striker on his home debut would have been given it, it would have been a different game, Chelski's insecurities would have surfaced and three points would have been on the cards. Bottom of the league, is it Christmas, a good season is still there for the making. RE: WBA vs Chelsea - Match Thread - valpayne - 23-08-2015 Rondon looks good seems to like to roll defenders a la Big Vic but is quicker (however chelsea were aware of that threat and by and large dealt with it) lets hope he scores a lot more than BV though. Mcmanaman was a real handful today very quick and very tricky some nice step overs to get crosses away. Mcclean looked ok to. Mozza as mentioned apart from that awful pen was really quick and sharp puts a lot of tackles in as well these days he's toughened up a bit. Yacob broke play up well and always goes in full blooded (though Im worried red cards await him sadly) Like the look of gnabry you can see he's an arsenal youngster and I reckon he will improve and looks like he has a few tricks needs to think a bit more though when to pass when to shoot etc. Lambert one or two nice touches but one or two horrible ones. Our defence at times is far too often caught on the counter and some of the passing throughout the team in fact is frightening. We seem to get caught out with moments of indecision and either lose the ball having dallied around on it or make an utter pigs ear out of simple passes that go to the opposition or get intercepted. We really need to work very hard on that. When we defend well and with good organisation with everyone snapping at the oppositions heels we really look solid but when we get out of shape we make some absolute howlers that leave you screaming WTF? I thought TP was reasonably proactive today 4141 to start with the two wingers was causing them aggro and despite not being specialist LB and RB dawson and brunt link up nicely with the wingers and also get on the overlap pretty well Good idea to go 442 when they went down to 10 and did produce that crucial 2nd goal I also thought the substitutions were canny especially as despite how good they were the two Mc's were on yellows and seem to be the kind of players that can lose their rags Mozza also because he had run his socks off and was tiring. Massively disappointing not to get the draw I was actually starting to believe. However another horrible start to the season sees us bottom and facing bogey side stoke next week I 'm afraid we may still be there after next week :-( RE: WBA vs Chelsea - Match Thread - betterthanbaird - 23-08-2015 Mcmanaman was excellent and rondon looked a real handful up front. Generally decent performance and morrison took his goals very well. Definite signs of encouragement. We've just played the Champions and Champions Elect with a newly promoted team in their first home game in the big league thrown in for good measure. You couldn't ask for a harder start. Think today we've witnessed a team in transition and i think it's going in the right direction. Cheer up ![]() ![]() btw. I'm not a happy clapper - why Lescott and Chester weren't starting baffles me (my glass is half-full, just not very fizzy) RE: WBA vs Chelsea - Match Thread - aries22 - 23-08-2015 Well said, Willie. After feeling angry and pissed off when Morrison missed that penalty, there are the green shoots of improvement appearing. But with Saido out, the players really should have sorted out before they took to the pitch who would take any penalty, instead of discussing it when it was given. Sounds like we also need to sort out the CBs, who's staying and who's got to go. Feeling depressed with today's missed opportunity, but the fixtures cannot get any harder. RE: WBA vs Chelsea - Match Thread - WillieJohnstonsGreenhouse - 23-08-2015 West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis admitted star striker Saido Berahino had been left out of the squad because of the "disruptive" impact of Tottenham Hotspur's bid. "Why are we talking about Saido today?" he asked angrily. "We're talking about Saido because of the transfer window. "The transfer window is absolutely ridiculous. "For it to be going through at the start of the season I find just ridiculous. "Everybody should be talking about the game and this wouldn't be an issue or a problem. "Saido's a great lad and it happens where it can be disruptive and it has been disruptive. "I had a good chat with him yesterday. "He's fine, but it's the transfer window that causes the problem." McMananman clearly best player on the pitch on the day. Hate it when players blast penalties down the middle. Always a sign that they are bottling it and not trusting their technique to put it into the corner. Why then was Mozza so desperate to take the pen when he didn't have the guts to place it properly? Rondon looks decent. A real handful. Links up well with the midfield and tries to run behind. Brunt was excellent at left back. My favourite Albion player. All those who've been slagging him off over the years clearly don't understand how the game of football works. RE: WBA vs Chelsea - Match Thread - WBA Will - 23-08-2015 Thought McManaman was excellent today. Tortured the best RB in the league last year, twisted him inside and out and the cross for Morrison's header was sublime. Also thought that Rondon had a good first game against Zouma who is probably the worst kind of CB for him to play against (quick and strong, matching Rondon's strengths) and a fabulous assist. I was also very pleased with Gnabry when he came on: he looked very quick and produced a lovely bit of skill to evade a tackle. Overall we looked good but defensively we were all over the place. Olsson has been a fabulous servant to the club and I hold no ill will towards him but he just seems out of his depth these days. Get Lescott or Chester in over him please, Tony. However, Brunt and Dawson both had solid games at full back. Were you at the game bud because if that's a solid game I'm losing my mind ![]() He can't pass wind and what on earth was he doing when he just stood there with the ball and just waited for a Chelski player to have the ball off him. He had all the time in the world to pass forwards, backwards or sideways. Clear header on goal and put it over. Both Him and Olsson need moving on and the sooner the better. I cannot believe we have spent £8m on a CB and played him at RB then dropped him. Neither Olsson nor Dawson should be picked in front of Lescott either. Maybe I am losing my mind afterall |
