SG is meeting the owners later today.

Very true MS, it is almost worth getting relegated in order to do so, certainly in our current situation and such other similar clubs. Which was part of my point, I'm not trying to minimise the demoralising effects of relegation, but these days, and with that money. Many clubs have the foresight and finance to bounce back up as you pointed out.

So does it take the edge off the relegation battles or tense finale's to the seasons when clubs know there's a big pay off regardless? I don't mean that there's nothing to play for, just that I feel the incentive isn't what it was.

Back in School on sports day, you got eff all for finishing last in a race, now we give our kids butt pats and trophies for 'participating'

Could be a quick meeting:

"Hi Stuart, bye Stuart, hello Paul" Big Grin

It is still a big drop.

You get £99m for finishing last in PL but only get about £24m as Year One Parachute Payment. The significant point is that you have already improved your squad with the £99m from the previous season & the extra £24m gives you a head start over the rest of SBC.

We should end up with a situation where there is an elite of 23 clubs, 20 of whom are in the PL and three who have just got relegated but should get promoted the following season. We need to get on board soon before this rocket takes off.

Well, SG is "relaxed" about his job.

Don't know if you read the comments posted below that article but there are a few good points made. It mentions the fact that one thing SG has done very well this season is getting us organized. Aside from a couple of games we have not been hammered, we have stayed tight as a unit and kept ourselves in most games. Westwood has been a revelation and has definitely won us a few points on his own, but the defence on the whole has been very solid. If we were an NFL team, SG would be the defensive co-ordinator of the year!! Problem is going forward, we have no natural midfield general and our strikers are poor to say the least and for me that is down to SG not being brave enough to change the formation and to "give it a go".

Its always easy for us to sit on our butts once a week and watch players, but SG sees them all week but this sticking to 442 no matter what has been and will continue to be his undoing. He should be relaxed, he deosn't strike me a a panic type of guy anyway, but he knows that sooner or later the new owners will make a change. Maybe it would be wise to keep him as a coach if we can and have him control the defense, you cannot deny he has done a good job there!!

Fans like SG because he is a nice guy and a contrast to DJ, who although a better manager was a miserable guy who had little time for the media. He is turn was disliked because he replaced GM, who was a Wednesday hero. GM had the passion, in contrast to AI, who was dire & overused the words "bitterly" & "disappointed" often in the same sentence. Fans never took to him because he replaced the affable BL.

See the pattern?

It's the Good Cop-Bad cop syndrome with our managers!! The reality is we probably need the "A Little Bit Naughty" Cop who resides in the middle of the ones we have had!!

The sad fact is that SG could be a really good manager if he wasn't so flucking stubborn with his 4-4-2 Doh He has done a tremendous amount of work to sort out our defence etc but he just seems afraid to take the next step whenever we play Doh

Whilst there has been some improvement in our defence, the largest part is down to Westwood. I think he has saved us at least a dozen goals that Kirkland wouldn't have saved. Without that we would be bottom six now & talk of an improved defence wouldn't be on the agenda.

The other factor is that we have kept a settled back five for the first time in years. Look at what has happened in the last two matches with Loovens suspended & Palmer left out - three goals all come through RB position & we didn't deal with the cross.
