RE: WBA vs Tottenham - Match Thread - drewks - 31-01-2015 There MUST be something strange going on behind the scenes / in training, whatever...... WHY is Lescott preferred to Poco - or Baird, come to that? WHY is Wisdom preferred to Gamboa, constantly? WHY is Brunt seemingly guaranteed of a start, no matter how he plays - and is also very rarely taken off!? WHY doesn't Sess figure in a home game, where we should be taking the game to the opposition? We were all berating AI for constantly 'getting team selections wrong', but - apart from the first 'WHY' above which obviously was today, these situations have carried through to TP's tenure. I'm not silly enough to criticise a coach/manager when I don't know the full facts or the thinking behind these decisions, but when the same, seemingly strange ones, continue with another boss, I do start to wonder. I'd just LOVE some sort of explanation! RE: WBA vs Tottenham - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 31-01-2015 We deserved to lose today, but 3-0 wasn't a fair reflection of the full ninety minutes. Absolute tripe for the first half-hour, and Spurs punished us, but we attacked well for the rest of the half and Lloris had to play a blinder to keep us out. Ironically, we looked far more threatening than we did at any point in the Hull or Everton matches, but today we couldn't get that extra bit of luck to go with the hard work. At 2-1 I think Spurs would have panicked and it could have been a different outcome, but instead they get a saft penalty and kill the game. One of those days. Let's see where we stand at the end of deadline day. If there are no new faces then we could be in for a long three and a half months of seeing Lescott at left back and Wisdom anywhere but Liverpool reserves, where he belongs. I still think we should have enough to beat the teams around and beneath us, but it'll be an uphill struggle without fresh blood. Spurs manager thinks that was the best performance of the season. Also a dog fight at the top of league. RE: WBA vs Tottenham - Match Thread - Slick_Footwork - 31-01-2015 I'm a little surprised at the stick that Wisdom gets on here and generally. He did make a poor mistake for the 2nd goal today and does get his positioning wrong from time to time, but most of the time he's been pretty decent - good on the ball, fast, never gets muscled, gets forward well. He has to improve his defensive positioning for sure, but can't help thinking he gets a raw deal just because we have Gamboa waiting in the wings and people want to see him play. As much as I'd like to see Gamboa given a chance - I don't think Wisdom is anywhere near a liability. I also think we're well stocked at full back with Wisdom, Gamboa, Pocognoli, Davidson, Baird and Gardner all capable performers. I don't think Lescott did too bad either, really. The Lescott thing is probably due to Pulis wanting us to have more presence in the air in both boxes. And to be honest - we did look more threatening. Lescott should've scored today while Dawson was unlucky. Maybe Pulis thinks it's worth sacrificing a full back getting forward from open play to have more chance of scoring from a set play. We need to remember that two of Spurs goals came from dead balls - it wasn't like they dominated as a result of Lescott playing full back. From open play, we easily created as much as they did. Just a bad day at the office I think. RE: WBA vs Tottenham - Match Thread - Beefy 1965 - 31-01-2015 Apparently booed when he was subbed according to Twitter,.......... This correct guys ? Didn't here any myself ! RE: WBA vs Tottenham - Match Thread - drewks - 31-01-2015 (31-01-2015, 20:08)Slick_Footwork Wrote: I'm a little surprised at the stick that Wisdom gets on here and generally. He did make a poor mistake Yep, have to agree with you mostly there Slick - certainly re Wisdom (although TBH I'd MUCH rather see Gamboa given a good run!). However I think there was a real gulf in class today between the teams - not because of the LB choice necessarily, although I don't think it helped. If Poco was further forward he'd have offered more in the offensive side of the game and given us an extra bod in that area. Fair play to Spurs - IMO they were very impressive with their movement and comfort throughout on the ball. We certainly could've had a couple of goals, and maybe 3-2 would've been a fairer reflection of the chances created, but IMO Spurs were definitely superior. Fair play to us as well though - we didn't buckle after conceding 2 so early and close together, That was good to see, and I'm really confident that, with even 1 or 2 additions, we'll be plenty good enough to stay up ![]() RE: WBA vs Tottenham - Match Thread - Squirrel Regis - 31-01-2015 Cold & unhappy. First 15 mins was a disgrace...did we touch the ball. About time we started working and closing down when we haven't got the ball ! What was Wisdom doing for 2nd goal and what was Dawson doing just before penalty !!! Had enough chances to get back into game. Oh well it's beer-o-clock. No and yes They deserved a win but by a goal and no more. The 'peno' ruined the game - shocking decision Having said that - how can we be asleep for so long??? 0-2 before anyone gave a fig.......disgrace Barring some top quality keeping and woodwork bothering we could have got something out of this. The good thing is we hit woodwork and bothered their keeper. Not clutching at straws but 3-0 flatters them. Pulis knows what is needed and he better sort it out, unless he wants a grorty dick |
