Jake Doyle-Hayes signs for us from St Mirren.

An Irish midfielder and a product of the Aston Villa academy who he played for in the League Cup twice.

Welcome Jake and good luck.

I don't know much about this particular player and just hope Hibs scouts have "done their homework" in evaluating his potential. We could do with a bit of dynamism in the midfield area, driving forward positively at an opposing defence and scoring a few goals in the process.
Meanwhile there appears to be news from Celtic that Griffiths' association with the club has been severed!!? Time to "watch this space" with great interest from a Hibs fan's point of view.

On the Villa forums, the fans liked him and speak highly of his potential and some point the finger at the management of Lambert for not realising this. Lets hope Ross can do this. Huh

Contrary to a comment in my previous thread, Griffiths signs a new 1 year contract with Celtic. I can't hide my immense disappointment re this news!!! Thumb down "Money talks" as usual, and Hibs can't compete with Celtic in that regard.

So true 0762...........unfortunately.

Celtic fans not too happy over this news either, may come back to haunt the new manager as the fans will want the "new" Celtic to hit the ground running and keep up with sevco and if he doesn't..... Whistle

Oh aye! Lotsa Celtic fans regard Griffiths as one of the big failures of season 2020-21 and definitely wanted him "oot the door" as he hardly played any matches either as well as being questionably unfit for most of the season.

Very true, so why would we want him? For old-times sake?

Telt ye !!

He's on about 6k a week at celtic, which we couldn't get near. Personally I think we are better leaving it alone, he is picking up increasing injuries and definite "questions" about his fitness and attitude.

I genuinely thought there was a very good chance of Griffiths "settling down" if he returned back to Edinburgh and playing close to home at ER Stadium. He never moved to Glesca during his Celtic career and lives in Edinburgh, the same as Broony. I must also comment that mental illness is not an easy thing to tackle and that has been at the forefront of the whole Griffiths story for the past 18 months and why Celtic got such a poor return from him even though they were pragmatic and positive in trying to resolve his problems. I'd say it is almost a unique case in Scottish footie esp at this level. I think one of the only other cases that I can recall was associated with another Celtic player, George Connelly, in the early 1970s - a fantastically gifted CB/"sweeper" who also briefly played for Scotland alongside Jim Holton, but a reclusive guy who retired early from the game, another sad victim of this type of illness.

The "plot thickens" eh!! The way I'm reading this unfolding story is that Sparky "gets his money", Hibs take him on a loan deal as Nisbet effectively replaces him in a £4M move, and Hibs eventually sign up Sparky at the end of season 2021-22. I must say, like Jim, I'd be tempted to just tell Celtic we don't want Griffiths under these circumstances!! However, I'm perceiving that Hibs lose out dramatically on the striking front although we possibly pull in a lotta money to then move for somebody like Lawrence Shankland??? I must say the availability of good strikers is so restrictive in Scot footie when one scrutinises that position more closely plus we don't have any new young striking talent coming through the youth ranks.
