RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (25 July) - Salopbaggie - 26-07-2017 With a €45m release clause in his current contract, really would be surprised if it were us, but off to bed so can dream for one night. RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (25 July) - Sir Megson - 26-07-2017 (25-07-2017, 23:43)Worldclassalbion Wrote: Our money men and negotiators are shite. Can't get a deal done quickly. Other clubs can and dare I say it Wolves can even do it. What are they paid for? And where are Wolves and Villa given their great track record with transfers and big outlay on transfers? Fighting to get out of the championship back to the level we're at now. Quite frankly I want to see players coming in through the door but talk of money and how much spent is a side of modern football I couldn't care less about. We're never going to be able to compete with the spending going on around us at the minute without gambling with the clubs existence - and there's no way the level of spending we're seeing at the minute in the game is sustainable. Also let's see where we are and evaluate our transfer window once it's closed. As much as it's frustrating to be seeing transfers going on at other clubs, we're still going to be doing business this window and have already made what's looking to be like two good additions in Rodriguez and Hegazi - the latter of those if he adapts to the Premier League will have to go down as a success by our scouts as anyone on here who said they'd heard of him before and knew how he played would be telling porkies ![]() ![]() RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (25 July) - Worldclassalbion - 26-07-2017 (26-07-2017, 09:37)Sir Megson Wrote:(25-07-2017, 23:43)Worldclassalbion Wrote: Our money men and negotiators are shite. I agree re Rodriguez and especially Hegazi as I have stated before but I stick to what I have said before. We are amateurish in comparison to others around us and below us when it Comes to getting any deals done. I'd say Villa's approach to transfers is amateurish with the chairman talking relentless shite on Twitter and they have spent an absolute fortune; we in comparison have spent wisely for the most part throughout the 00's and 10's despite being stingy. Not giving Kevin Phillips a 2 year deal way back when is the only real issue I had recently with our board on transfers and contracts. Far too stingy not to extend a player like Super Kev's contract. I've not really had much else to really be annoyed about since imo. RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (25 July) - Salopbaggie - 26-07-2017 Another defender linked a CB for a change ![]() RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (25 July) - SomersetBaggie - 26-07-2017 TP must be as frustrated as we are that there have not been any further additions. The statement he made regarding 2 signings by the time the team returned from Asia was probably his way of kicking the recruitment team up the behind. I could see him walking away from the club if things do not happen soon. I could see him walking away from the club if things do not happen soon. Maybe, but I did find this post on westbrom.com, relating to today's board meeting a little amusing! Board "Sorry Tony, we have attempted to go for the players you have requested but the clubs are asking for far too much as the British market is ridiculous; are you sure you wouldn't mind this extremely talented foreign player for a quarter of the fee?" TP "Not on your Nelly, son". Other teams are linked to players who to be honest would make our team better but not only are they linked they actually sign them. We look for a few seasons and don't sign hardy any of them. We are still apparently buying Marc Wilson. He is not better than what we already have. Even that is taking an age even though Bournemouth want rid and were happy for us to loan him. Our negotiations and dealings are a shambles. I don't care about Villa or their fans, board or chairman to be honest. I don't know what I'm worried about as every transfer window has been brilliant and I'm really enjoying this one as it's been so different........ NOT I'm obviously frustrated over nothing, dunno what I was thinking really ![]() RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (25 July) - Sir Megson - 26-07-2017 (26-07-2017, 17:39)Worldclassalbion Wrote:(26-07-2017, 14:11)Sir Megson Wrote:(26-07-2017, 09:45)Worldclassalbion Wrote:(26-07-2017, 09:37)Sir Megson Wrote:(25-07-2017, 23:43)Worldclassalbion Wrote: Our money men and negotiators are shite. But I'm keeping my powder dry until the window closes. If we've not made at least another 3 additions to the squad by then I'll be leading the torch and pitchfork mob myself. We're still in July and a lot can happen between now and 12th August. The harsh reality is that whilst we've been in this league for many years now, were still bottom feeders compared to others above us and as such our business begins when those clubs start letting players go after they've got their replacements in place. The very fact we're competitive in a league where clubs like Man City are able to spend £160m on one player (Mbappe rumour) and we spend pittance ourselves is remarkable and shows our back room staff are anything but amateurs. Stingy sods but definitely not amateurs. RE: WBA 2017/18 Summer Transfer Window (25 July) - 4evaabaggie - 26-07-2017 World class, sir megson, I agree with you botb, we appear to over negotiate are transfers, it takes a millennium, I think we're still tracking a player that Brian Talbot wanted although I think I may be wrong, but having said that quite a few of the players we have failed to sign have gone elsewhere and failed to perform, are we over cautious or just thorough, I don't want to pay stupid money for average players and keep hoping the bottom will fall out of the market. It is only July and we have 36 days to sign the players we need ....... hopefully young, hungry, talented players to improve the pride of the Midlands. |
