RE: Thread For Anything But Football - Thurnscoe_OWL - 28-06-2015 He's a recovering gay fish and we all need to respect his artestry as a musician RE: Thread For Anything But Football - Statesideowl - 28-06-2015 He is partial to a fish dick. I mean fish stick. RE: Thread For Anything But Football - peiowl - 28-06-2015 (28-06-2015, 11:26)madsteve Wrote: The referee favoured Canada. If she had made correct decisions then England would have won more comfortably. The commentators on BBC said Canada had only got this far due to weak referees allowing them to get away with thuggery in earlier matches. Strange that, because the cbc commentators said Canada was unlucky to lose and the game turned on a bad header by Tancredi when she only had the GK to beat. Had she scored, Canda at 1-0 up, it would have been a different game. As for the fouls, cbc says in response to pre-match moaning by England coach Sampson (what a whimp!!): "But it was England who looked to antagonize with players taking particular aim at Canadian midfield creator Sophie Schmidt, who was roughed up every time she got the ball. The English played with their elbows up, looking to disrupt the home side. Uruguayan referee Claudia Umpierrez penalized them but not often enough for the liking of the crowd." England are whiners not real winners and they play dirty soccer. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: Thread For Anything But Football - madsteve - 28-06-2015 Shows how myopic some viewers can be. I have to say that I side more with the BBC team. They also showed four clear red card offences by Canada in previous matches that weren't penalised. There was another near the end of this match where a professional foul got just a yellow card but we got the benefit of the referee's decisions when we have hosted tournaments. RE: Thread For Anything But Football - St Charles Owl - 28-06-2015 The commentators over here were full of praise for the way England performed but they was really no mention of the referee's performance at all. Its about time we saw an England team with a backbone, playing aggressively against a team to put them out of their stride is a great tactic to use if you have the right players. As regards the tournament as a whole, it would have been a disaster had Canada not at least reached the QF. They knew the semis and final would sell out anyway, keeping the host in the tournament this long was definitely the preferred course. Not saying that anyone was cheated to achieve this but when there are so few people interested in the games it does make you wonder. Just to correct you, England may be whiners but they are also real winners, hence them being in the semis!!!! ![]() RE: Thread For Anything But Football - peiowl - 28-06-2015 I've seen England several time. They were poor in Moncton when France beat them, improved in their next couple of unmemorable games, and were not very good last night against Canada. Japan, who impressed me in the previous game, should have no trouble beating them. ![]() ![]() And real winners don't whine, SCO. Like me taking a golf shot and saying beforehand "If I hit it badly, it's because I hurt my wrist." Making excuses in case you lose or don't measure up. ![]() ![]() RE: Thread For Anything But Football - Maddix - 28-06-2015 The fact is that none of these teams would last five minutes in the Conference North (maybe 15 minutes in the South ![]() It's a bit like watching pool in the boozer and trying to compare it with the WC snooker at the Crucible ![]() Look beyond the hype and ask yourselves if it is actually entertaining football of a good standard or just a bit of a sideshow ![]() ![]() RE: Thread For Anything But Football - madsteve - 29-06-2015 I have enjoyed it like I enjoy the Women's singles at Wimbledon. Saying Serena Williams wouldn't get a game against Federer is pointless. Just enjoy the game. RE: Thread For Anything But Football - St Charles Owl - 29-06-2015 I have enjoyed watching the England games but haven't really watched any other games. RE: Thread For Anything But Football - Thurnscoe_OWL - 29-06-2015 The England Canada one was the only one that's been wholly watchable |
