we already have the players. Even Maguire would have his uses in a 3-5-2

I've liked your post for saying 352 even though I see no use for Maguire.
If we are to get out of this division, we need the best loan signings. Arsenal & Chelsea loan out the best players. We could have had a 30 goal per season striker if SG hadn't pissed off Wenger by playing him on the wing twice & benching him the rest of the time. SG is a fool if he doesn't realise the importance of relationships with the big clubs.

I think both of us have been advocating 3-5-2 since the Meggo era
and I used Maguire's name to emphasise just how wrong SG is with his tactics 
even Maguire could, at a push, be used in that formation

Sadly we miss an opportunity.
Still not the end of the world. Feels a bit like when Big Jack ran out of gas at this level & we brought Wilko in and he got immediate promotion using the core of the existing players, adding two or three new ones but changing the tactics to gain an edge.
Maybe history will repeat itself.
