RE: Thread For Anything But Football - Thurnscoe_OWL - 24-06-2015 Aye and tha probly call football soccer ![]() You're just another yank and the sooner America realise this and make you a state the better ![]() Chips, fries and crisps are all different btw and hockey is played on grass by 12 year old girls RE: Thread For Anything But Football - Washington - 24-06-2015 (24-06-2015, 19:58)Thurnscoe_OWL Wrote: Aye and tha probly call football soccer I beg to differ Thurny and I'm sure SCO and Stateside will back me up but Canadians actually know about World Geography and not just the local 25 mile area so they would never qualify as Yanks and yes their accent is very different. BTW as a dual citizen i am completely bi-lingual in tires and tyres or color and colour etc but if England were playing the USA I would still be suporting England as I did in the real "World Cup" even with Greens GK impersonation of Gary Sprake RE: Thread For Anything But Football - St Charles Owl - 24-06-2015 I may live in America but I will always be English and consequently will always support England above all others!! But the use of American spelling and cliches is unfortunately mandatory unless I want to look like more of an idiot than I already do!!!! ![]() (24-06-2015, 19:58)Thurnscoe_OWL Wrote: You're just another yank and the sooner America realise this and make you a state the better Don't worry about that Thurny, most Americans already think Canada is the 51st state anyway!! ![]() RE: Thread For Anything But Football - peiowl - 24-06-2015 Whenever I go "home" to Sheffield people say "Weer duz tha live then?" "Prince Edward Island in Canada." "Oooh. Tha't from America then are tha.?" You'd say that wouldn't you thurny? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (24-06-2015, 21:08)St Charles Owl Wrote: I may live in America but I will always be English and consequently will always support England above all others!! SCO My experience with the Northern accent is to say I'm Australian since somehow appears that is more believable to them than being English ![]() And, in your case partly true RE: Thread For Anything But Football - St Charles Owl - 24-06-2015 Much prefer this song!! Have this on my iphone along with a few other patriotic songs that I play very loud in my car!! That why I referred to my Northern accent, having grown up in Australia I never developed a Sheffield accent but do sound northern!! Its a bit like when I am asked where I am from I say England, I never say the UK or Britain, just England. That makes it a bit easier for Americans as they see think the UK and Britain are part of England anyway!! ![]() RE: Thread For Anything But Football - Maddix - 24-06-2015 Don't they also think that everyone lives in London and knows the Queen personally ? ![]() RE: Thread For Anything But Football - Washington - 24-06-2015 (24-06-2015, 22:46)Maddix Wrote: Don't they also think that everyone lives in London and knows the Queen personally ? Close. Not necessarily the Queen but definitely their 3rd cousin once removed who they have never met ![]() For those doubting global warming its foreacst to be 41-44 C every day here in SE Washington for the next week !! For those of you using old money (F) like me, that's fecking HOT and up to 111 !!! I also know that there's no point it being so ![]() RE: Thread For Anything But Football - St Charles Owl - 25-06-2015 (24-06-2015, 22:54)Washington Wrote:(24-06-2015, 22:46)Maddix Wrote: Don't they also think that everyone lives in London and knows the Queen personally ? They have definitely moved on from thinking we all know the Queen, although I do occasionally get asked if I have met any of the Royal Family!! ![]() As for the London thing, when asked where I am from I always used to say "Sheffield, a city 160 miles north of London", now I find myself saying "Sheffield, a city 40 miles East of Manchester" and that usually works now that "soccer" and particularly the Premier League is much more closely followed over here, especially after Beckham came over here. |
