If we are not safe by 16th Apr then I believe we are fecked.... ![]() West Brom V Liverpool Man Utd V West Brom Newcastle V West Brom West Brom V Chelsea Arsenal V West Brom RE: Leicester vs WBA - Match Thread - drewks - 02-11-2014 (02-11-2014, 11:13)tidy Wrote:(02-11-2014, 03:20)Dingle-Dingle Wrote: 13 points from 10 games. DD Interesting post which seems to forget that we didn't write off these fixtures last year and got some pretty good results (shown below) - who's to say we couldn't reproduce these again THIS year, or even get a point or 2 more??! WBA V LIVERPOOL 1-1 MAN UTD V WBA 1-2 NEWCASTLE V WBA 2-1 WBA V CHELSEA 1-1 ARSENAL V WBA 1-0 RE: Leicester vs WBA - Match Thread - pieandabovril - 03-11-2014 I think we have,on paper anyway,a squad of players, quite capable of keeping us in the premier league.however, apart from saido, and perhaps Dawson,I can't see any general improvement in any of the other players.this suggests to me that our coach hasn't really got much of a clue when it comes to managing in the premiership.I didn't have high expectations when ai was appointed, and I have seen hardly anything so far that has made me change that opinion.negative perhaps, but survival will have to suffice again this season,as I just can't see us winning the fa cup ? can you? RE: Leicester vs WBA - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 03-11-2014 Seems a bit of a drastic conclusion to me. Not sure what kind of improvements you're looking for in the players, but in some matches this season - notably against Man Utd - we were passing the ball around better than we have in years, and scored two cracking goals. If only we could have done the same when we played them back in March, rather than rolling over to a 3-0 defeat! This, to me, is improvement. It can't be stated enough that in four of the last five seasons, the team who finished 17th one year were relegated the next. Sunderland bucked that trend last season, but they're right back down there again now. In contrast, at the moment we're about where you'd expect us to be in an average season (as opposed to a season where we've made wholesale changes over the summer and are dealing with the fallout of eighteen shambolic months on and off the pitch), and though that could all change very quickly, for now it's a decent position. Gutting to be out of the League Cup, but the team that night should have been good enough to win. All in all, if we can avoid the nightmare of last season and regain some stability, then that's me happy. MIDFIELD IMO the midfield - who many people are criticising before the kick off - are passing and moving really well, better than ever. This MUST be, at least partly, down to AI as apart from Gardner they have been here for years. Just because we have a new set of (perhaps) more exciting players waiting, doesn't mean they are going to gel or even hit it off in the PL. The grass isn't ALWAYS greener! DEFENCE. Well, the difference with this for me is that I'm no longer squirming every time the opposition gets into the final third, as I have been for the last few years; IMO we look much more solid and organised. Any AI infuence there? FORWARDS Whether Saido would've improved quite so much without AI we'll never know - but as we don't really like AI let's not give him any credit for this either ![]() GENERALLY, surely we can all appreciate how difficult the first 10-15 games would be for AI - new job, a fairly negative reception, and, most importantly 11 or so new players to integrate into the squad. ELEVEN!! In truth, with all that going on it's a miracle we're not where Burnley are, so I, for one, believe that he IS doing a good job and there IS already improvement - which in theory should only increase in the coming months. SO THERE! ![]() RE: Leicester vs WBA - Match Thread - pieandabovril - 03-11-2014 I agree with what you both say.however the players should not need motivating for games against the likes of man united, the value of a good coach is surely to get the best out of his players against Oxford hull and Bournemouth! RE: Leicester vs WBA - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 03-11-2014 ...In which case our list of poor coaches also encompasses Steve Clarke (failed to get the best out of his players against QPR), Roy Hodgson (Everton & Norwich), Roberto Di Matteo (Ipswich & Reading), Tony Mowbray (Hartlepool & Burnley), Bryan Robson (Reading), Gary Megson (Colchester, Watford, Wigan) and so on for a very long way back. Cup competitions are the new reserve league, unfortunately. I wish we could find a way of motivating players to actually put the effort into these games, and did suggest some potential ideas on the Bournemouth thread, but let's face it: every Albion boss for years has struggled to find the right formula. RE: Leicester vs WBA - Match Thread - drewks - 03-11-2014 ....just to carry this on, this apparent lack of motivation/effort for the cup games isn't just a WBA thing is it? It seems to be a sad reflection of how all the so-called 'BIG' clubs treat these games, and for some reason that rubs off onto the players. THAT, IMO, is the worst thing - players who are paid bloody good money not giving 100% for the supporters who shell out to see half-hearted performances. RE: Leicester vs WBA - Match Thread - pieandabovril - 03-11-2014 Again agree with comments made,so why do a succession of wba managers make promises to us supporters about how it's so important to have a good cup run, when actually mean they couldn't give a toss? Ai is exactly that, and despite what ever he says,it's what happens on the pitch that matters! |
