RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - BaggieSteve - 24-12-2017 (24-12-2017, 14:10)WBA-Josh Wrote: I have seen a lot on social media and forums of the blame being affixed to different parts of the club. In my opinion, blame should be given to all involved with the club. Josh, I think that's a pretty fair summary but I'd take issue on one point. I don't think these players are good enough to keep us up. I think we have a squad packed full of sub-standard PL and Championship level players. In particular, Rondon, Rodriguez, HRK, Livermore, McLean, Nyom, a past it Barry. These are not fringe players, they have all been featuring regularly. Chadli and Greg have been huge disappointments and Philips is never fit . Honourable exceptions would be Evans (about to leave so won't be available to keep us up), Gibbs and Heghazi. Fundamentally, I'm saying the spine of this team is not good enough and gives the lie to the "best squad of players we've ever had". Personally I'd take either of Odemwingie or Long over any of our current "strikers". I actually think we will go down because we aren't good enough and there appears to be limited or no funds to remedy this. Who's to blame? I think you're right, Josh, that all have to stand up and be counted but I strongly feel one name above all should take most of the criticism: take a bow Tony Pulis for providing us with a squad of under performing non entities. RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - tidy - 24-12-2017 Persisting with Rondon will send us to the Champo. We created enough chances to win 3 games but his conversion rate is appalling. RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - baggietrousers - 24-12-2017 Must agree with baggiesteve, most of current squad is sub standard and for that we have pulis to thank. RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - 4evaabaggie - 24-12-2017 I am not in desperation street yet, I think we can stay up, we created enough chances to have won many of our matches three times over, a decent striker with a good scoring rate in January and a climb up the table is assured. Unfortunately very few decent strikers change clubs in January ......... will be hard but keep the faith. RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - drewks - 24-12-2017 Agree with 4eva above in that we can stay up. There HAS been an improvement in % possession, chances and general play under AP. I know that this hasn't turned into the positive results that we would've liked, but with the more creative players - Chadli (is he the new Biscuitman?), Phillips, Mozza and Burke hardly figuring, this isn't hugely surprising. Silk purse and sows ear spring to mind. A bit more on the creative side, be it from one of the above or a new player, and someone to tuck a chance or 2 away occasionally, and I still think we'll be OK. There are quite a few ordinary sides in the PL this year - we're just one of them, IMO there's not much between us and another 6 or so clubs. We just need that first win! RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - WBA-Josh - 26-12-2017 It looks like the following: GK - Foster RB - Dawson CB - Hegazi CB - Evans LB - Gibbs RM - Phillips CM - Livermore CM - Barry LM - Brunt ST - Rodriguez ST - Rondon Subs- Myhill, McAuley, Nyom, Yacob, Krychowiak, McLean, Robson-Kanu RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - talkSAFT - 26-12-2017 What's Liversalts got to do to get dropped? (I bet Yacob's wondering that.) How the hell did (offside) Rondon miss that 5th minute chance??? Albion look like a Premier side so far. (Cue Everton goal!) Dawson makes a difference. Livermore's had 3 touches already - only 25 mins gone! RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - baggietrousers - 26-12-2017 this is much better, but no matter what any coach does on the training ground he can't do anything about a player who can't hit the target from 4 yards. RE: WBA Christmas Match Thread - talkSAFT - 26-12-2017 Decent 1st half for Albion. We looked like the 20th team in the League against Stoke, but we look better than 9th placed Everton so far. If we could swop Rondon and Livermore for a couple of donkeys we could be ok next Year. (26-12-2017, 17:48)talkSAFT Wrote: Decent 1st half for Albion.
