Not a whimper of match fixing when Hibs were on a great run at the start of the season.
Call it anti Hibs all you want but I'd laugh at fans of any club at the arse and of the season claiming it's in anyway related to match fixing.
"Nobody even considering the prospect of match fixing?" is the title. And the answer to the question is: just Hibs fans and only the most outfield of those.

During the same period, about 1986, there was a ref, K O'Donnell, who I remember disallowed 3 x good goals (all onside goals) for a rampant Dundee United v Rangers at Tannadice. None of the goals were even close to being offside! This same ref had a couple of highly questionable ref performances at ER as well - very one-sided decision-making! He disappeared from the SFA ref list within a few weeks after the game at Tannadice - a fact! I remember it well because I wrote a scathing letter to the Scotsman sports columnists re this guy - he was rank awful! The SFA discreetly removed him and he was never seen again.

I must comment on these disparaging remarks. The original OP was a question, a suggestion, of the possibility of such activity!! Nothing more than that. It's generated healthy debate from certain people/fans who have properly joined in to that debate. There are other parties on this board who have tried to distort the details of the original post to suit the negative anti-Hibs agenda that is regularly spouted by them. One individual has recently referred to some fictional mention of Rangers FC in the OP - ridiculous! A Sportsbabble mod has recently and accurately mentioned that it's very clear that certain non-hibee members regularly come on to the Hibs board to perpetuate an argument and that is indeed the case!! Au contraire and I'd currently narrow down that criticism to one persistent member!! HEED THE CRITICISM FFS OR GO SOMEWHERE ELSE TO PEDDLE YOUR DRIVEL EH!! IT'S TIRESOME!!

An 'element of proof' is the antagonists' main weapon to dispel such insinuations and admittedly, gleaning the evidence has always been a 'big stumbling block' to overcome before the authorities can catch and charge people properly. This is where strict secrecy works wonders to keep such random activities 'under wraps' and well away from the public eye. It's all down to opinion all the same and whether you really think the sport of football is 'squeaky clean' and immune from the temptations of bribery, match-fixing and various other corrupt activities that could be detrimental to the reputation of Scottish footie.

Interesting that the suggestion that a Rangers victory was somehow down to a Referee's bias/cheating is only a flippant remark. Looks to me like it was being used to perpetuate an argument and suit someone's own negative agenda.
