RE: WOLVES v TERRIERS - sloppyattheback - 02-10-2014

After the first 10 mins it looked a bit like the Alamo and we could have been 2 or 3 down easily, Lynch was getting murdered. We then started pressing really high, credit to Hogg and I''m not a fan of his, Holt too and they didnt know what to do as we stifled them. They still created chances but shot high and wide on every instance and a frustration built across their team.

Their fans applauded them off at ht which made me laugh, we'd have boooed and they kept up a decent noise all 2nd half trying to lift them, but we got blocks in and stopped crosses where we had to.

Bunns strike has us all dreaming with our first real effort, Holt powered his way to put in the cross, Scanz what appeared a deflection and when Coady rifled home No 3 a worldy, it was going to be our night. In fairness Wolves kept going with immense power n pace but fluffing the final ball or again shooting high n wide. Inevitable they'd get one but we held firm and the whole bench and team celebrated long & hard in the centre circle at ft.

Holt was superb up there on his own, was stamped on off the ball right in front of us the Lino decided to avoid it and shortly after he limped off and in fairness Steady did his best to put himself about till the whistle and held up what he could, Scanz and Bunn busy but a real team performance, Smithies solid handling and slowed it down loads.

A delighted bunch of 500 travellers, should have been a lot more but the all ticket fiasco was so unnecessary and wonder if its a ploy of Wolves to reduce the travelling support.

Thurs am
I wasn't able to appreciate from our low down side on view the quality of Bunns first time strike nor the role Holt played in the build up to Scanz deflected shot too, worth every penny of his reported £29,000 pw.
Wells for all his ability n fight can't offer Holt's style of of physical presence so it was a master stroke by CP to make a tough call like that against a strong Wolves outfit, with Bunn and Scanz Hogg and Butterfield all in support it was an incredible effort deserving of performance of the week award. Can we follow it up at BBurn now with points?

Think we paid them too much respect to begin with. That changed when we scored.
Our fans were a bit quiet to begin with, but then we weren't sure what Town side would turn up and there were a few changes that threw us and the team a bit to start with I think. That changed when we scored, as did the volume on their South Bank.
The two commentators on BBC RADIO WM (or is that WUM) aren't a patch on Oggy and Seamus O'Rubbish and definitely not anywhere near the standards of the recently departed, much loved and occassionally mocked Mr. David Coleman of this parish. I turned them off after our second goal.

Well done Town, I will have a big smile on my face until the weekend. Keep it up and mid-table mediocrity will be ours.

So that's 11 games unbeaten now against Wolves. They haven't beaten us this century. The last one was so long ago, Steve Bull scored.

Very possibly Holt's up front performance was one of THE best individual efforts I've seen in my 34 season long sentence of anyone in a town shirt. He put the fear of god into their back 4, gives as good as he gets likes the rough stuff too and clearly is relishing getting back to form whether its with us for longer or someone else who can genuinely afford his $ demands.

Great to hear a Town player being booed off by the opposing supporters.  Tongue

RE: WOLVES v TERRIERS - theo_luddite - 02-10-2014

Good job the national newspapers don't report proper football too often. According to the Independent, Scott Scannell scored our second goal. Must be Sean's unknown twin brother.

Agreed Holt played a blinder but Hogg is also playing far better for Powell than he did all last season. Holt like anyone else at his age has a limited shelf life. If he can continue to get silly money off Wigan he will do. Someone panicking up in the Prem come Xmas may decide to buy him and do likewise. Then again, he might just decide he's enjoying himself where he is, if he can get a reasonable pay-off. Who knows?

i knew yesterday was going to be a good game when i heard the word "tackle by Scannell" after that all thats left is to see an elephant fly

RE: WOLVES v TERRIERS - Mitzi - 03-10-2014

We used to have a thread (ages ago, was it on the original 606?) for things like that Scott Scannell. IIRC Tommy Scarz used to feature quite often in BBC match reports of our games.

I started one (last year I think) but ended up talking to myself for the most part. Smile
